If you’re in Newport, don’t miss out on this incredible restaurant! Not only do they have the best clam chowder, all of their seafood is absolute perfection. I’ve spent a week here, which means trying many different restaurants & while most are amazing, this place stands out. The service is great, every employee is incredibly kind & your food comes quickly. I highly recommend the clam chowder, but I guarantee you will be satisfied with anything you order! We will be coming back!

Chowder was the only thing decent. Had the seafood platter and was by no means Impressed. The food lacked any flavor. Service was very slow which was surprising since there were only a few tables. At one point we thought about getting up and leaving. The chowder was the only thing that might convince someone to go but you can find better.

Yum! This place is great! Traveling through town and chose this spot based on Unilocal reviews and it did not disappoint. I had the Sea-wich fish sandwich which was a great tasting light cod. Girlfriend had the Turn Around turkey sandwich which was also expertly done. Started off with clam chowder which tasted fresh with plenty of clams. Check them out, they’re worth the stop!

There are many places serving clam chowder at the coast.. .and, of course, they ALL claim that theirs is the best. I’ve tried plenty of places up and down the coast over the years, and my favorite is the Chowder Bowl in Newport at Nye Beach. Their chowder is thick and creamy(not thin and soupy like at some other places), and it’s rich tasting with lots of ingredients in it. My late father-in-law used to live in Newport and he turned me on to the place over thirty years ago. We’d go there all the time when visiting him. He said that’s where the«locals» go, and I think that’s always the best testimonial.

The best Clam Chowder ever! I’m not really a seafood person but I’ve really liked everything I trued in this restaurant so far. The place is really clean, beautiful and people who work there are so nice. I’m leaving a 5 star review on Chowder Bowl restaurant mostly because of its Clam Chowder. Every meal tastes so fresh and delicious. If you’re trying this place based on my review I hope you like it too!

A classic chowder beach house nestled on a one way street with outdoor seating on a sunny day. The chowder is served with melting butter on top. It is good(but not the best I’ve had). We shared the fried seafood platter, which was huge and excellent. The fish was tender and flaky, not too much batter, and it was all fried to perfection. The chips are round and tender crisp. The service was friendly and prompt– it was a relative bargain. Definitely worth stopping by to taste test the chowder.

The most delicious clam chowder I have ever had, period. We got there pretty much right when they opened to avoid the rush and it was perfect! Ordered two chowder bread bowls(called Cannon Balls) and also their potato popper appetizers to-go and were not disappointed with anything in the slightest. Everyone we encountered working there was incredibly sweet, and the hostess even warmed up our bowls for us so they’d be hot and fresh when we were ready to eat. I hear their desserts are pretty great too, but we weren’t hungry enough to order any of them. Definitely stop by if you’re in the area!

Everybody is right, the chowder is amazing! Got a seafood platter to go and my husband and i say art some picnic tables next to the beach literally like a 1 minute walk from the restraunt, and enjoyed our dinner with the lovely sounds of the waves. Not to expensive for good seafood in a touristy town!

The clam chowder was the best I’ve had. I liked that it wasn’t overly thick with an overflow of potato… it was well proportioned in all aspects of flavor, creaminess, potatoes and of course, clams! My wife had the fish and chips. The breading was not greasy and had great flavor. The ‘chips’ were homemade and perfect. The service was also great. We were quickly seated and our server was very friendly and helpful with food choices and beer choice. My parents recommend this place and now I know why they were so insistent.

Great place for seafood and chowder. We got the seafood sampler which is mostly fried stuff and chowder. It was all very good. Seafood was not greasy it was all moist. Most of it seemed very fresh too.

I’ll be back for the chowder! Many have recommended this spot, so I decided to check it out during my trip to the coast. I was traveling alone, and this was the kind of place that felt comfortable experiencing solo. Service was fast, and the food was exceptional! I started with the clam chowder and followed that with the fish and chips. Both were great choices. After all was said and done, I walked out to a neat part of town – Nye Beach. Put this place on your list, solo travelers! You won’t be sorry.

The place was packed out, and rightly so. The locals we talked to recommend it. The clam chowder was AMAZING! Makes me want to take an 8 hour trip to go there again. Service was friendly and kept us happy. I didn’t care for the Cajun fish sandwich, but the Salads were huge!

This place is amazing! Great little gem of a restaurant newport has to offer. The chowder was the best on the oregon coast, the fish and chips were cooked to perfection, and the coconut shrimp was to die for! Ps their desserts are just as amazing. Definitely will be returning soon!

We got there right before the lunch rush on a weekend. Lots of seating inside and tables turn quickly. We each got a ‘wich(clam sandwich and shrimp sandwich). Clams were fried well and not heavy battered. Sandwich was still light and not greasy. Small bay shrimps were piled thick and tartar sauce was on the side so you add as much as you need. Both came with slaw and it tasted like an apple cidar coleslaw, sweet and acidly versus mustard or salty. We ordered a side of chips to share. They were amazing. Fresh, thinly sliced potatoes where it was still thick enough to have a bite and crunch on each chip. You can tell they only fried potatoes with one oil and not miss it with the seafood. No one likes clam tasting fried chips. Love this place and very close to the beach.

This place is absolutely amazing! My dad and I had the fish and chips and they were definitely the best I’ve ever had! I also had a bowl of chowder and it was so tasty. My sister had a burger and she loved it, although it is a pretty good size. Every time I come to Newport I stop at this place. This time in particular it was Veterans Day and they gave my dad his meal for free. I love that they support our Veterans, so I will definitely always give this place my business! The waitress was absolutely amazing and always quick to refill our drinks or get us whatever was needed. Definitely try this place out next time you are in Newport!

At the insistence of my daughters(and from past experiences both personal and professional), we came over for lunch on Veterans Day. We were quickly seated and greeted by our waitress who got our beverages and asked if I were a Veteran(I Am), thinking there must be some special discount for the day for Vet’s. The food was, as expected, consistant and great tasting. I have been eating here for the last 5-plus years and that is the way it has always been. The fish is firm and cooked to perfection, the chips are homemade and just the right size and the chowder is full of clams and always tasty. When the bill came, much to my surprise, my portion was covered and the waitress thanked me for my service and wished me a happy Veterans Day. WOW! I really liked this place before and now I really, really like this place. Thanks, Chowder Bowl, for that, the great food over the years and providing great food, service and setting oveer the years and rest assured, we will be back!

The Newport Chowder Bowl at Nye Beach again wins our votes for the BEST Clam Chowder on the Oregon Coast! We had two bowls of their wonderful thick and creamy clam chowder($ 6.50 each), and shared an order of Garlic Onion Cheese Bread($ 4.75). Delicious! We always wait until mid-afternoon to go, just to miss the lineup at 11am, when they open, and the lunch crush. Service is courteous, quick and accurate(Thank You, Megan!), which is hard to do in a restaurant as busy as the Newport Chowder Bowl. Five Stars.

Truly fantastic. I got the chipotle prawn salad and it was so huge! The chipotle seasoning was very flavorful and I am so glad I got this dish. Also came with a cup of chowder so I was really full in the end. The grilled salmon burger(sandwich?) was a healthy choice among all that po’ boys. If you are getting the chowder as a main I recommend getting it in a regular bowl rather than the bread bowl because the bread is not that great.

Great Chowder! We ate here based on Unilocal reviews and some of the locals suggested it. I had a bowl and my wife had a cup. They fill it to the top too! We both felt it needed a bit more salt, which we added. It was great. Maybe not the«best I’ve ever had», but great. I had a dinner salad as well and my wife had the Shrimpwhich. The shrimp were petite salad shrimp on a bun. She like it. I saw some fried fish come out for another table and it looked fabulous. I’d eat here again — have the chowder and a fried fish sandwhich.
