Closed!!! We LOVED this place! The food was good, beer selection on point, and the owner was so nice. So sad to drive up tonight and see that they’re no longer there.

This was a great stop for lunch. We had the ½ sandwich and clam chowder. Fresh baked bread for the sandwich was delicious! We both actually received full sandwiches and just figured that was their ½. When we got the bill we learned differently. But they gladly corrected this for us. Would definitely go there again.

I don’t rate service, ambiance, cleanliness and wait times; they are too variable. I can put up with anything if the food is good. It is all about the food– that’s it. All of my ratings are based on vegan options only. Notes: This is one of those places where your excited there are vegan options, and then you eat the food and realize they know nothing about vegan cooking or how to prepare tofu. Almost gave them 3 stars for sauce flavor, but it had the consistency of water. My rice floating around in it was not good. Disappointing for over $ 10. I wouldn’t come back.

We made poor plans for valentine’s day and ended up here for takeout. Restaurant was not that busy. We walked up and we’re able to talk to somebody right away. She gave us a menu and then walked away after that is when it went wrong. 5 – 10 minutes passed and she hadn’t returned yet, ok can let that slide. We ordered a sandwich and hummus appetizer and sat at the counter waiting for our food. Sitting there we were able to watch the restaurant operate and it was very clear that there was no organizational system what so ever, I am talking chaos, basically the three people working running every which way trying to keep up, nobody really in charge. Now 45 mins later we finally got my sandwich and went back to our room. It was just average nothing special. The chips and hummus were fine, again nothing special. The issue was it took an hour to get a sandwich. Putting an experienced person in charge and maybe add an extra server would solve that.

Stopped in during a recent work training the pizza was amazing. My co-worker enjoyed the clam chowder and we sampled the hummus. Very friendly service and family friendly environment.

What a nice little place with a great selection of foods. We had just arrived into town and had just put the baby down for a much needed nap, we were basically stuck with any place in walking distance. Out came Unilocal and that’s when we came across this place. We were famished, and probably ordered more than we should have for a late lunch. My husband ordered the shrimp burrito smothered in peanut sauce, OHMYGOSH! Now we’ll ever be able to make burritos ever again without smothering them in peanut sauce… I ordered the spicy fish tacos. I was very happy! I had read the one previous review and still decided to go with it. I enjoyed the sweet with the spice on the fish. The fish pieces were very fresh, well cooked, and the marinade complimented the fish very nicely. The tacos are basically made of fish and lettuce with a sprinkle of tomato, which was great because I wanted to taste the fish. Overall, very happy with our experience and as we frequent Newport, this will most likely become a new regular.

I dig this place but they need to complete the vibe by putting some music on instead of that dang tv that’s always blaring. How about some reggae or island music? The food is good, the menu creative and full. The vibe is warm, but for the awkward quiet and the loud tv that nobody but the owner watches.

Very cool spot. They have a section of books and stuffed animals for the kids to play with. Their pizza is really good and the place is clean. The staff was very friendly and helpful. I would come back if I am ever in town again.

Great place! Love the gluten free selections. Try the GF pizza crust with the Dakine Spicy or the GF chowder(I know, but… delicious). Awesome staff!

We stumbled upon this place after driving in circles and were pleasantly surprised by the excellent pizza and delicious Mai Tais. The staff(Bruce, our server) was very friendly and the place had a nice casual Hawaiian style atmosphere. We’ll come back here for sure next time we visit Newport!

Fantastic place; the pizza is amazing. Each server pays you a lot of attention. Though the pizza is amazing; all the food is fantastic. Big Mike is always there and makes the best margaritas!

As a father of three children I was very pleased with the kid friendly atmosphere and the helpful wait staff. The pizza was very tasty and a large pizza could easily feed a family of 6. The only downside was the unsteady table that we sat at. I would recommend this establishment to anyone and we will definitely plan on coming again on our next vacation.

I absolutely loved this place. Each person I was with ordered something completely different: falafel gyro, three cheese pasta, and yellow curry. Normally I am hesitant to eat at a restaurant with so many different types of food served because one is usually good and the other types are lacking. This was not the case with Savory. Each dish was delicious and relatively authentic. We also ordered the garlic buds — yum! So fresh, hot, and steamy. So the food was amazing, but the service was great as well. Our waitress was friendly, patient(it took us forever to decide because there were so many vegetarian options), and attentive. The entire restaurant was humming with a quiet and content feeling. The tables were spacious, the wall murals were pretty to look at, and the overall atmosphere was quite enjoyable. I would highly recommend it, especially for someone who is always disappointed by a lack of vegetarian, vegan, or gluten free options.

I live locally, so I had high hopes for this place. The server was nice, but she didn’t refill my water, I hag to get up and find her to ask for a to go box, and then again for the check. Pros: *The lettuce was fresh *The kids macaroni was a good sized portion, but needed seasoning. *The Knots were very good. Cons: *The marinara sauce served with the Knots is served cold. When dripping warm bread into cold sauce it is off putting. *The beef tacos looked way better than they tasted. The rice is not good and the black beans are probably canned. *They served each persons food as it was done, so our daughter ate her entire meal before I got mine. I appreciate that she got her food warm, but we came to eat together. *It took 35 minutes for me to get an order of Knots and artichoke dip. This place should make the menu more cohesive, too many different types of foods for them to do any well. It was just OK. Not bad at all, just not great. When I eat out I like to have the food to be a notch above what I can do at home or bring down the price! Sadly, I could make a better taco and rice. The stars are because it looked clean inside. The waitress was nice, but in the back too much. The food looked really good. I wish it tasted as Good as it looked. Maybe using organic meats and veggies could justify the price and increase the flavor! I’m local, and I don’t think I’ll go back. I’m sure the large number of tourists will keep them in business. If they were better, us locals would keep them busy in the winter.

During a trip to Newport on a holiday weekend recently, we found Savory Café as it was the only place open in town for a family dinner. When we arrived, no one greeted us or acknowledged us for a full 10 minutes. We stood in a very cramped entryway with 2 other couples in line in front of us. One couple was furious that no one had acknowledged them so they stormed out in a fit. Guess that was our stroke of good luck because a minute after they bolted, someone finally came up and started taking names and tables opened up a minute later. Not a great start, but it’s very obvious this place is family-owned with the middle aged parents cooking and racing around and their young teen-aged daughters waitressing. The ambiance is cute: Hawaiian, surfer theme, bright colors– very cheerful and fun. There is a great corner set aside for kids to play that had toys and stuff to climb on. Perfect! My kids ran over and only came to the table when the food arrived. We ordered the cheesy garlic knots with marinara– SODELICIOUS. We all scarfed them down in minutes. I highly recommend these as «the» thing to try here. My kids ordered a pizza to split, my husband got vegetarian burrito, and I tried the chicken tacos. I also felt adventurous and ordered a Mai Tai… OK, it was the biggest, strongest drink I have ever received at a restaurant, no joke. That’s not to say it was bad– oh contraire, this was a truly delicious Mai Tai made with the yummy rum, not that cheap junk. It was fabulous… but size-wise it was the equivalent of like 3 – 4 mai tai’s. I was completely tipsy after drinking half, so I had to stop drinking at that point. Thankfully the non-drinking hubby drove! Next time we are in town without the kiddies, I definitely know where to go for cheap and fabulous drinks($ 7!!!) though. Now for the food: the pizza was great. Puffy crust with tons of big air bubbles(love them) and slightly charred from the wood fire over. Very tasty! We all agreed we would order pizza next time. My tacos were odd– they were very good and flavorful, but they came with cabbage. I guess I expected cold, raw cabbage like one gets on tacos from taco trucks, but they actually sauteed the cabbage so it was warm and very soft. While it tasted fine, it wasn’t necessarily how I envisioned it would be and the warmth and softness kind of turned me off? I just prefer fresh raw cabbage to counter the spiced meat on my tacos so it’s probably just a preference thing. My husband felt the same about the sauteed cabbage on his dish, but other than that, he was very satisfied. This place could work on greeting its customers better when there is a wait, but otherwise, I think it’s super cute and they are a hardworking family whom I’m happy to give my business to next time I visit. Check them out and order some good pizza! :)

When hunting for real food that is Gluten Free, The Savory Café & Pizzeria has it AND they know their stuff! The Fish Toco’s were amazing, they have GF beer, and the GF chocolate dessert was heaven! Wish we were staying in Newport longer!:(

A great, relatively new find, down in historic Nye beach. The proprietors are very friendly, they’re pouring great beer, and it’s a great spot to watch a game. For me at least, the food was not quite my speed. Anytime I see a big list of disparate items(e.g., thai style edamame, fresh mozz plate, mezz plate), I feel put off. Hubs and I tried the antipasti, and were disappointed as it seemed to contain only pizza toppings such as very thinly sliced and stuck together pepperoni and salami, a couple of pepperoncinis, and some mozzerella. It was definitely not what we were expecting. Maybe we should have gone veg? However, the fun ambience, great staff, and presence of cable-ized sports, will definitely bring us back – at least for beer!
