Ale steak is great. My son’s burger looked great too. Fast service even on Christmas day! Will be back next time I’m in the area. Have already recommended to a friend too.

Our party of 6 came here for dinner — you probably want to come here early b/c it does get packed. No surprise their BBQ ribs is the stand-out entrée — their other items are good too. Among the sides, I think their cole slaw is the best. HICKORYSMOKEDBBQRIBS — $ 13.75(half slab), $ 22.75(full slab) Award-winning baby-back ribs and basted with BBQ sauce, served with cole slaw. Parents shared the full slab(and it’s plenty!) — they shared 3 ribs with me. I love the taste of smoky grilled meats. Yum. ALESTEAK — $ 14.50(7oz steak) Sirloin marinated in olive oil, mustard, garlic and our Cherokee Red Ale, and topped with Worcestershire butter. The steak was very flavorful — ordered medium but there were some burnt parts on the outside, inside was perfect though. Also came w/mashed potatoes and 1 side — I ordered the slaw of course :) Other family members ordered the Turkey Creek Salad, Hickory Burger and kid’s Cheeseburger — everyone enjoyed their food. My nephew has an egg and nut allergy, and he had no problems with the food. Service was very friendly too.

Merry Christmas! We had Christmas dinner here today, we had reservations so getting seated was a breeze. The ambiance was lovely, the restaurant itself is beautiful and well kept, including the restrooms. Our server was very pleasant and on top of it; he handled serving several tables and with a smile. So why the three stars? The food itself was very average. Three of us had prime rib, the portions were generous but the food was lacking in flavor and was not hot. I wish I could have given 5 stars but for $ 50 for my husband and I(we had water with our meal) we expected really good tasting food.

This was our first time at Calhouns and I have to say our first experience was excellent! The service was great!(Thank u Josh!) The food was great! I highly recommend the ribs, the spinach side dish and the their new side, Tennessee corn puddin’ was awesome! Overall I gave them 5 stars because they truly deserved it tonight! We’ll definitely be back!

I’ve lived in GA and travelled the South on business for 20 years. While Calhoun’s corn pudding was exceptional, the ribs were among the worst I’ve ever had. Dry, flavorless even with the dollop of cold ‘BBQ glop’ they tried to pass off as sauce. My wife’s pulled pork was equally dreadful. The only two plusses were Kira, our server, and the fried green tomatoes. It was a treat to be served by her Kira and If the pork was 1⁄100th the quality of her service, I’d rate Calhoun’s a 5-star bistro. Pass on Calhoun’s!

We have had many good meals at Calhouns but this was not one to write home about. My wife’s pulled pork sandwich was mostly tough glazed pcs and her baked potato was cold. My prime rib was good but was barely warm as well. My steamed broccoli and mashed potatoes were very good. Hope to have better results next time.

I can say that this is the best place for ribs that I know of. Customer service is very good, servers are nice, even when it is extremely busy. The smoke flavor in those ribs is very good. Just do not add any extra sauce. The sauce on them is enough.

I hate to say this, but toooo much food. Began with bread basket then stuffed tater skins. They were probably the best I have had in a while. I had the trio, ribs, tenders and pulled pork. I didnt even touch the ribs, brought them home. Wife had chicken teriaki, she ate half of it. Waiter Alex was by far the best waiter that we had this weekend. Our cost was 40 with tip.

In the area for some R&R for a week and wanted some Calhouns. All three of us had the ale top sirloin… cut like butter and so flavorful… comes with garlic red potatoes mashed… basket of buttery biscuits… corn muffins… and whole grain muffins with good olé butter… yumo…they have an array of sides I like broccoli… but their creamed spinach is awesome… All was good but not as GREAT as before… Off season now… Monday is slow… perfect no lines… service was outstanding… Noted portions were small for TN… for the price… much more plate than food… one piece of broccoli… grrrh… Will try again… with hopes more satisfying…

I consider myself to be a bit of a rib connoisseur so My family and I had to stop in Pigeon Forges local BBQ joint. Upon arrival the restaurant was pretty empty but it was after noon on the day after the Fourth of July. I’m sure everyone had checked out of their hotel and was headed back to the real world. We stood in the lobby for maybe two minutes as a few people walked past us and we were finally acknowledged and seated. The first booth was dirty as was the second but we sat down anyways. We honestly could’ve had our pick of the entire place but it looks as though they had gotten slammed the night before and no one had taken the time to really clean. Anywho. Time for the food. Ribs Ribs and more Ribs. The verdict is… Just okay. Initially ok but not moist enough but the sauce did redeem it a little bit. Sides were ok. But what was really good was the basket of assorted cornbread, rolls and biscuits! So all in all if ur accustomed to eating ribs at longhorns, chillis, Applebee’s, and any other franchise then this place will stand out. If you want something tastier and more authentic. Well I don’t know what to tell you. By the way the server was attentive and I also had the white chilli soup. It was fine.

What a disappointment. Very dry, cold ribs and a spicy gooey layer of sauce. Bowl of stiff mashed potatoes with no butter, tasteless cole slaw. The ale steak had good flavor but even as ordered«medium rare» it was almost completely rare through and through. Hubby enjoyed the«baked» beans which, to me, tasted more like chili. Corn muffins are not sweet and Mac-n-cheese just average. Fried green tomatoes were good. Waitress was not on her game. Forgot an order of fried pickles and when asked for them she blamed my husband for not ordering them from her!(Really?). Then while we were still enjoying our cocktails she proceeded to clear our WHOLE table(scraping dishes and actually taking everything off the table). For a bill of $ 80+ we were so disappointed.

The sign outside says«Best Ribs in America». You can’t say that without meaning it or at least being good ribs. My ribs were extremely dry. Overlooked or perhaps reheated. Four of our party of 11 ordered ribs. All the same — dry, dry, dry. One side of green beans came out dry(no butter) and under cooked and had to be sent back. The French fries were great! Don’t bother with the drink«Tito’s Mountain Mule». It’s advertised as being served in a mason jar. It came out in a small jelly or jam jar. About the size of the palm of my hand and not much alcohol. It was $ 9(see pic). Sorry to be a negative Nancy, but my girl and I alone spent $ 90 for what should have cost $ 25 for the value. Waiter was very friendly though and the front desk staff.

Heard good things about calhouns. In pigeon forge for a vacation. Ordered filet Mignon and after 2 mixed drinks still tasted like a burnt piece of trash. $ 24 would’ve been better spent at Wendy’s where at least I would’ve known what I was getting. My advice is hire a new cook or order better meat. Also two others of my party returned their burgers as they also tasted like burnt trash.

The food is the only thing that earned any stars here. We were greeted by the rudest hostess I have ever encountered. I use the word greeted lightly because her greeting was actually«20 – 25 minute wait.» Not even so much as a hello. She kept up a running conversation with two disheveled, barefoot girls occupying a bench near the front. One was apparently her daughter. While patrons were forced to stand, these two lounged, again barefooted, on the bench. They eventually went outside, one leaving her smelly shoes behind still occupying the bench. We waited the requisite 20 minutes to enter a virtually empty dining room. I later saw the still barefooted girls exit the restroom and enter the server’s station near the kitchen and speak with some other employees. Surely that is a health code violation?

This was ridiculous. First we were told 20 – 25 minutes and waited 1 hour. The waitress was nice and it wasn’t her fault but she was running her butt off since they were obviously short staffed. Just got the food and it’s very cold. There were so many tables but no one was sitting at them considering it took over 30 minutes to clean one table.
