Great as always. I love the revueltas pupusas. I couldn’t wait to introduce my mother to Chepes. I think she’s sold too.

I love pupusas and this rating does not reflect on how the food tastes, but the quality of service. First of all, every time I have called to make an order to go I’m never sure if they are having a conversation with me or someone else. They consistently get orders wrong and unless the owner is present they will not fix the order. I’m all for supporting small restaurants like these, but unfortunately the quality of service is frustrating!

The portions are large for the price. Kids really liked the food here. They went to order seconds. Horchata was a big hit. Wow, this was really good food. The pupusa was perfect. The tamale different with chickpeas and potatoes. Every kids was very happy. It was cheap and yummy!

I will give it a 4 star only because I am not Salvadorian, but this place was amazing. I had the pupusas revueltas, chicharon con queso & chicharon con frijoles. They were so yummy and even better when they were brought fresh to the table. The service does take a bit because everything is fresh so I can’t complain about that, the wait is worth it. The salsas are not spicy, but they have good flavor and go well with the pupusas. Staff was friendly and attentive and had my to go order ready after I finished eating there. Will definitely be back!

My first pupusa ever, and it did NOT disappoint! $ 3 for a queso y ayote and it’s served with a generous helping of the most amazing curtido. I dumped this stuff all over my plate and mixed it up with some of their amazing salsa from their(somewhat disorganized) salsa bar. I cannot wait to come back.

Pretty good, prices went up a bit since the last time I was here, they added more to there menu. The bathroom was dirty which was unpleasant. I ordered a reveultea pupusa and I got some sauces on the side. Only liked one the others didn’t have much flavor, it took them about 20mins to have my food ready thought that was a bit too long. But pupusa was good wish it was grilled a bit longer

This place is F&%king BOMB. Huge amounts of food for a very reasonable price. The papusas are great. They have an extremely handy salsa bar in the center of the seating area which I hit up more than a couple times over the course of my pigging out. And, best of all I think, their slaw actually has a flavor! They must pickle the heck out of it, because it even holds up against their pickled jalapenos(which are also really good). Finally, they have a weird beach volleyball area outside with sand… and I find this both strange and intriguing. I’m going back this weekend to test out their breakfast options. I have high hopes. Give this place your money.

That is some damn fine Salvadoreannnneighishjk food! I’ve had papusa’s in SF that were really kinda meh, and this was a turn off. So I was reluctant to try again, but never say never. I was really enamored by this place though. Service was fantastico! The environs was a little slapdash, but the back room area near the bar and the patio were pretty cool looking. I only noticed them after I finished eating in the front area which is kind of blah. Food! Delishush Papusa! I got the Jalapeño & cheese one as an app, fabulous! The Plantains are amazaballs! Chicken Sumthin Sumthin… A dressed up chicken dish served atop a cheese stuffed papusa with avocado slices and drizzled crema in red stew was fantastic! I tasted the chicken in crema dish, also very very. I will come back to try a drink at the bar with my cheesy stuffed doodad papusas next time. This place is good. I say so. Enjoy Y’all!

I had tried pupusas a couple of times before and thought that they were ok, but not a must order dish. The problem was that I had not had a real Salvadorian pupusa. By recommendation of a friend from Peru, I went to Chepe’s today and OMG! The lunch special was any two pupusas, curtido(Salvidorian slaw), and a can of soda or a fruit drink for $ 5.95. I ordered the pork, beans and cheese pupusas. These were better than any other pupusa I had ever had before! About 6 or 7 inches wide, very thin, grilled crispy, with the pork, refried beans, and gooey stringy white cheese inside. The curtido consisted of cabbage, carrot, onion, oregano, vinegar, and was very yellow in color. The very pleasant and helpful waitress said it had curry in it, but I’m guessing turmeric because of lack of curry flavor. She said to squeeze the non spicy tomato sauce on it. It was delicious and a perfect compliment to the pupusa! Nice salsa bar too with an avocado sauce, roasted pepper sauce, a citrusy pink(pretty hot) sauce that I do not know, a smoky chili and oil sauce, and a red medium hot sauce. Also onions, cilantro, radishes, and lime wedges. I was very hungry upon entering and could still only manage 1 and ½ of these delicious new favorites. I can’t wait to go back and try many of the other menu items offered at Chepa’s!

I enjoy getting pupusas. Great as always and really love the atole de maiz. My only issue is that at their current location parking can be a hassle(especially since most people do not know how to properly park). The other issue is that it gets a little crowed by the area to pay, since I ordered to go the lady opening her drink splashes some coke on my feet. I’m still giving it four stars due to the fact that the pupusas and atole are great.

My hubby is from El Salvador, and we frequented Chepe’s food cart«La Cocina de Chepe», and we’re thrilled that he has expanded his business to a brick and mortar. Chepe’s food is authentic, and never disappoints our high expectations. Also, the customer service is worthy of some BIG kudos, too! So check it out and support this family business.

Checked this place out tonight after my wife found so many other great reviews. It was fantastic. She got the pupusa plate which comes with beans and plantains. I got the chorizo, plantains with rice an beans. We both loved our food. Can’t wait to go back and get the pupusa’s with sauce over them and try them all. It is great to have such a gem close to our house.

So this place hasn’t been open very long yet but I’ve already been at least 5 times. I’m in love with the chicken pupusa! I have also tried the cheese and squash and the cheese and spinach both of which were very good. The place is clean and the people are friendly. As long as the food stays good I’ll be a regular.

Based on an enthusiastic recommendation by a friend who insisted that Chepe’s had THEBEST Pupusas, a few girlfriends and I made it a priority to come here during our 2-day stay in Portland. We were not disappointed! We ordered several kinds of Pupusas: Steak, Revueltas, and Cheese and Jalapenos. My favorite was the Revueltas, hands down. The Cheese and Jalapenos came a close second, but the savory pork in the Revueltas were delicious. I noticed that almost everybody in the restaurant was drinking the same hot beverage in a styrofoam cup. I asked the table next to us what it was, and they said it was called an Atol de Elotes. We quickly ordered our own Atoles de Elotes and I loved it. It’s a hot corn beverage that has the consistency of hot chocolate, but it tastes like more like sweet milk and cinnamon. Definitely coming back the next time we’re in town!

I am a born and raised salvadorian, and I can say that this place is the closest I have been to my home. The pupusas are really great, thick and large in size. I have been to other places around town, and not one comes close to Chepe’s. Owner Chepe, is a great guy with a positive attitude that always tells you he is doing great, and talks to you like a friend. He’s not one of those owners that can’t even serve water because they feel like it’s too much for them. Chepe is out there brining you what ever you need, and serving you the food. Overall great place to dine ACTUAL salvadorian food, the service is Great, and the bar is even better.

My husband and I just moved to the area(Vancouver, Wa) from the San Francisco Bay Area. I’ve made it a mission to find great Salvadoran food! There are plenty of pupuserias back in SF but they seem to be scarce in the Portland area. I was so excited to find this place! When we walked in, I felt nostalgic seeing all the Salvadoran influences in this restaurant. I grew up eating platanos and pupusas regularly so seeing the menu made me giddy! I was literally tearing up as our food arrived to our table. And the food did not disappoint my high expectations. It was DELICIOUS! So thank you, Chepe’s! We will be regularly coming to our new home restaurant :)
