The food isn’t bad if you want something quick and cheap that isn’t fast food. For $ 6 or so you get a pretty huge portion. I’ve eaten here quite a few times since I moved to the neighborhood about 5 years ago and they are a better alternative to the other fast food options in the area. If you’re ultra sensitive and need someone to hold your hand while ordering or you have a hard time with people that are from a different cultural background than you I would stay away but if you are a well adjusted adult who knows how to order food from a menu by themselves, you aren’t offended by a foreign language and are looking for cheap, greasy Chinese food this is the place for you. That being said I do think the entire restaurant could use a good cleaning.

No. Just no. Don’t go here. As soon as you walk in, you will question the last time this place has been cleaned. I am all for the«hole in the wall» experience, but this place is just gross. The lady at the front is quite rude and there is a lot of yelling between her and the guy making the food. You’re instantly uncomfortable and wanna get out of here. The food is pretty gross… I got through about half of it and threw the rest away. Their meat is a weird texture and they don’t de-vein their shrimp. The potstickers are DRENCHED in oil. I will not be back. Plenty of other places that are better quality for the same price. Oh and two hours after I ate, I was pretty sick.

To be truthful I have only been there once and the place appeared to be dirty. I should have Walked out then because if I get it in my head they are dirty nothing would have pleased me. The food was horrible I threw it away.

The employees provide okay service but the food isn’t good. The chicken has a weird texture to it that makes it hard for me to eat. I gave this place a few chances but they have fallen short every time with the same problems. I will not be returning.

Average Chinese food and if you go for lunch they get the food to you in a good amount of time. Not a bad place for a quick bite to eat.

I love a good hole in the wall restaurant. They’re often my favorites. But I was disappointed with China Empire. The broccoli in my broccoli beef was piping hot, but not at all cooked. It was hot, raw broccoli. The chow mein was bland and I took two bites before giving up. My husband’s meal was somewhat better, but we probably won’t be back.

I have been to China Empire a few times now and have not been disappointed. The only drawback is the language, which other reviews mention. The couple that owns the restaurant is nice, but it is hard to communicate with them. Although she did recommend a few things and they were all good. The food has been great every time. You get large portions for the price and everything is cooked to order. We always have leftovers! If you are looking for a good«hole in the wall» Chinese restaurant that serves good food, big proportions at a fair price, than this is the place!

I’ve placed several To-Go orders here and each time I think to myself that I should have just walked in and placed my order. There have been times when I call ahead and the woman tells me my food will be ready in fifteen minutes. But when I get to the counter to pick it up, the food hadn’t been cooked yet. The woman behind the counter yelled at me when I asked why my order hadn’t been done. It’s hard enough to communicate in person when there is a language barrier… Even worse over the phone. The food is pretty good. Nothing to write home about or go out of your way for. I would consider it more comfort food than Chinese food. But it’s good when I don’t feel like cooking and I want to just hang out at home in my jammies.

Definitely a hole-in-the-wall chinese, but relatively clean for this type. The chicken isn’t questionable. No plates, just to-go containers. I got the teriyaki chicken lunch platter, it looked like it had big shitaki mushrooms on the picture, which wouldn’t even make sense for the dish, but my mind wanted mushrooms that day. Regardless the chicken was good though, not dry, and not a mash of chicken type meat and cartilage. I tried to order soup and fried rice at the same time, but the language barrier was there and I didn’t get either of those haha. I used to work in the area and so did my fiancé back in 2009(ish), and this was our go-to for close, good, take out for lunch on a regular basis.(although we used to go to Genghis khan Mongolian grill too, so maybe our decision making wasn’t as good then?) I would go back, but expect«mall style» chinese, just with a bit better quality.

HORRIBLE food, rude unhappy owners. I was trying to force the food down and realized«these sauces are just awful.» Maybe my dog will eat it, not sure. I piled the container, a cup of tea, wallet, chopsticks and the fortune cookie and was trying to open the door with my elbow as I juggled all this stuff. The owner, who was behind the counter with her husband started yelling something unintelligible at me. I turned around thinking maybe she was going to offer me a bag to carry my food in? No, she was pointing at the napkin I had left at the table and then at the trash. I said, «are you saying you want me to throw my trash away?» She nodded her head vigorously. I looked at her, raised my eyebrows as in «are you serious?» And turned to leave. She shouted«You no coming back. You no come back!» And I said«you’re right.» $ 7.27 for this lovely experience.

So it’s been years since I have last been here. The reason being is because the very last time I ate here I got sick. No need for details but I will not return. Something about how sick I got and though I I am in this area quite often, I can’t go back. Really sad cause my last review I gave them a good rating but say the same.

So, here’s the thing with China Empire, for less than 8 bucks I can order enough food to feed 2 people. Add another 3 bucks, and have eggrolls. This place is greasy, deep fried, and not the cleanest. Some of the best places are grungy, hole in the wall establishments. This place is no exception. The food is Chinese buffet quality, and good for an afternoon binge watching Netflix. He cooks it to order which is nice. The couple who own and run it aren’t rude necessarily, but want you to know what you want before you walk to the counter. Order by number and you’ll be fine. I always get the honey garlic chicken, and sweet and sour chicken, with half rice, half noodles. Like I said enough for 2. If given a choice between this and a chain restaurant, hands down I would choose China Empire every time.

Love this place. Found it by accident. For about six dollars you get lunch and enough for dinner. Love the lemon chicken it tender and crunchy.

This is a hidden gem in Reno. Nobody really expects much from this mom and pop shop but, when you finally get inside and taste the quality of food you realize this is truly«good food» The food is fantastic and I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for good Chinese food.
No one speaks very much English and unless you order one of their set combos they have no Idea what you’re saying. For what you’re paying it’s great. The chow mein is really filling. I like the sweet and sour chicken too.

This place has grown on me, 6 months ago it would have been a 3, now I know what I like on the menu Ive moved it to a 4. The lady at the counter speaks little English so that’s an issue with phone orders but they use fresh veggies and everything is made to order. 5.75, for 2 items with chow mein is hard to beat.

One word BEST describes this place… YUCK!!! The food smells bad and is greasy and oiley! NEVERAGAIN! Sad to say I would have to give up on my favorite food(Chinese) if this were the last Chinese restaurant in the world. If I could I would not give this place one star, I would give it an absolute ZERO! NEVEREVEREVERAGAIN! BAD!
