I was recommended to this place from a local! Enjoyed delicious and large peel and eat shrimp along with the vegetable of the day, sautéed and seasoned to perfection! Staff was friendly and attentive!

OMG, this was an awesome restaurant not to be missed! Our server, Kelly, was outstanding! You must try the low country shrimp boil — it is heaven in a bowl. Not to mention the yummy crab cakes! The ambiance was very nice and I loved the blues music in the background!

Delicious! We had the Chicken Demere and Cajun pasta. Would definitely order both again. The only negative was the side salad. It had been pre-made and stuck in a very cold fridge. The lettuce was nearly frozen. We ordered the bread pudding for dessert. Yummy! They also have smaller portions of most of their entrees. It is still a perfect size with two sides. I highly recommend it!

Standard mom and pop type restaurant. Good for a nicer night out. The menu has variety of New Orleans style food. I had the gumbo and it was just okay.

This place may not be much to look at, but they know their low-country food! Meals start with a serving of lagniappe, which is a flavourful cream cheese spread served with hearty crackers. I was warned that the Jambalaya was the spiciest item on the menu, and they were not lying! Even so, it was full of flavour, which sometimes falls by the wayside in a spicy dish. The staff were all great, and seemed to have a great rapport with each other. I can see why Blackwater Grill was featured on the Food Network!

I saw the menu for this place in the restaurant guide for St. Simons Island, then came to Unilocal to see the reviews. If I could give this place 6 stars I would. We were there on a Sunday night, got there 30 mins before they closed and you would have thought we were the first customers of the day. They were super friendly greeting us, not the grumpy welcome you sometimes get when you show up 30 mins before close. I have to say I was a little unsure when we got to our table and all the chairs were different, my chair was a spinning chair with a little wobble to it, table covers were not the most attractive but that among other things is what made us love it. Jo was our server, she should open a school and teach people customer service, and I’m talking anyone who deals with customers not just in a restaurant. She was awesome!!! We felt like we were talking to a long time friend. She knew the menu, recommendations were spot on, she was friendly but not in a fake way, answered all of our questions(it was 4 women, and we can be a pain in the butt) and did not rush us. On to the food, I wish I had worn pants with an elastic waist. The Blackwater sundae, which is an appetizer was fantastic. Highly recommend ordering this when you go, same for the shrimp and grits appetizer. I had the jambalaya for dinner, it has kick, Jo warned me it gets hotter as you eat it and she wasn’t joking, but I loved it. I had enough to take home and I ate it the next night(I don’t usually eat leftovers). My sister had the Cajun pasta and she said that was really good also, other sister had a special that she loved and mom had the sundae and shrimp and grits for dinner. All of it was delish. I live about an hour and a half from this place and I would happily drive there just to eat, it was that good.

Great food. I got the blackened Mahi Mahi — good sized portion and perfectly prepared. The side dishes were a bit small in portion size but tasted great. The key lime pie is homemade & yummy!

I’ve had many meals at Blackwater and can honestly say never had a bad on, not even close to a bad one. In fact every meal I’ve had there has been excellent. If you like Cajun food and like going home happy you should give this place a try !

Excellent food! Our group had some amazing fried shrimp as an appetizer. The entrees we had were the rubbed ribs, the shrimp and grits, and the country burger. The ribs and shrimp and grits were both spectacular, as were the red beans and rice. Bar selection is varied and well-executed. The only thing keeping this from a 5 star review was that the burger was just alright, and nothing to write home about. We will certainly be coming back here!

Holy Crap. So, it is recommended that I try the Blackwater sundae. What’s that you say. Well, it’s a sundae glass, filled with corn bread, Brunswick stew and Cajun coleslaw. Disgusting… so you think. OMG. This is a must have appetizer when you come here. It is worth the trip to just come to this place and see this dish. Staff was good. Food was good. What more could you I highly recommend this place.

Very homey restaurant in the Village, which I decided to give a go at last week. I saw it on Unilocal and thought I’d try something new. I had no idea what kind of restaurant it would be so I took my friend out with me to give it a shot. Parking, like everything else in the village is park where you can, so nothing unusual. It’s near Wake Up coffee and they have a nice little patio out front. The interior is like someone’s gramma’s house, but in a good way. It was a nice comfy feeling compared to the other sporty bars in the area. I love love love the wooden panel swinging fans they have near the host stations. I thought it was a good Southern-y touch. The bathroom aside from the fan and great service was perhaps one of the highlights of my experience. It was small but so cutesy and overly decorated I just stood there looking around. There was an obnoxious flamingo which I thought was the coolest thing ever. Awesome. We got there Friday evening and were immediately seated and attended to. Service was spot on. It was quick, sweet and the waitress was super knowledgable about the menu. For started we had a homemade creamy veggie spread with some flat crackers. It reminded me of regular cream cheese spread, nothing I would order but hey… it’s free. For apps., I ordered the peel n’ eat shrimps. The shrimps were GA shrimps which are super juicy with a hint of sweetness. I enjoyed them greatly. My friend ordered a brunswick stew. She tore it up and said it was much more tasty than what it looked like. Right before our main entrees we also received some bread, the bread consist of some regular taste Italian cut loafs and cornbread. The cornbread roll does have bacon… or some sort of meat which would have been nice to have known, luckily my friend pointe it out before I took another bite. My main meal con sited of buttery brussel sprouts and collards. Bother were well seasoned. The protein I ordered was a speciality Grouper Daufuskie. The grouper itself was very lean and tender, but the Daufuskie… which I assumed was the sauce was just too much. It overpowered the fish and I didn’t eat it all. My friend ordered the Tybee Shrimp which brussle sprouts. She got half friend and half blackened. I thought the shrimp was good but nothing different from the apps. Overall, this is a Cajun, low country styled type restaurant. If I would have known I probably wouldn’t have dined in, but the experience was okay overall.

Blackwater came highly recommended to us. Unfortunately, I was underwhelmed. I loved the casual, beachy atmosphere. However, the food was disappointing. Most everything we had was either deep fried or drowning in a sauce. I did love their cracker bread service with homemade cream cheese spread. For dinner, I had the crawfish stew, which was described to me as «having a nice kick.» It was actually so spicy, my mouth was on fire. Bill had the ribs and said they were just ok. Both kids had fried shrimp and enjoyed them. I would give them another try… Maybe we just ordered the wrong things.

Its ok. Maybe 3.5 stars. Service is great. Our server was happy, cordial, friendly and very welcoming. Her positive attitude was much appreciated. Food wise, it was the traditional low country, southern type. We started with the lagniappe app(cheese) and it was great over their multi grain cracker. I had their low country boil, which I thought was OK. The broth was a little thin and like most places, they did not really boil everything together. The broth simply did not get the infusion of flavor from the corn, shrimp, sausage and taters. We also had the badoin ball and award winning brunswick stew. I think these 2 are the best from our selection. Shrimp and grits looked great, but proved to be too heavy with the cream. They fried a brick of grits and it was saturated with butter. About ¾ in. the food became too much. Our jambalaya was a ginormous plate. Order a plate, but you will need two stomachs to put all that stuff in. Good flavor, but lacked a kick.

Service was friendly but the interior felt dated and the food didn’t meet our group’s expectations and was overpriced in my opinion. Part of my family is originally from New Orleans, and the crawfish étouffée was a real big disappointment. Shrimp and grits wasn’t terrible(just really rich and not a lot of flavor) but I’ve had much better elsewhere. Cream cheese spread with crackers was tasteless. Can’t say I’d ever return and am quite surprised by the positive reviews to be honest.
