Excellent crab stew, steam oysters and blackened grouper sandwich! Don’t miss this place on the island.

Ask for Angie! Super amazing friendly and full of personality! A completely pleasant server that will accommodate you to make your visit worth while. Now. the food… AWESOMESAUCE! EXACTLYWHAT I NEEDED! Just about every restaurant was closed on Sunday, which was beginning to be an upsetting birthday. The seafood was extremely fresh and although I became quickly full of luscious cuisine, there was still an abundance left over. A complete delight! Thank you so much for the pleasant experience.

My 84 year old father is a bit impatient and has no governor when it comes to complaining at restaurants. Accordingly, I am always wary when taking him to an establishment where he has never been and despite living on the island for 32 years he had never dinned at Catch228. Every aspect of our experience last eve was truly EXCEPTIONAL! We started with very well crafted cocktails and our sever could not have been more ingratiating, pleasant and professional. Next came the best oysters I have had in ages! Trust me on this because I know oysters! FANTASTIC! I had a blackened fresh catch Mahi Mahi and Dad had a delectable fried seafood trio. Both were off the charts delicious! My sides, seaweed salad and grilled veggies could not have been better. George came by to great us and really made us feel welcome. If your in St Simons and want a great dining experience, you will not be disappointed!

If I could give less than one star for this place then I would! The service was terrible and the waitress was very rude. We asked for the manager and he didn’t know what was going on at all in the restaurant, I know this because he admitted to «not knowing what was going on because he was behind the bar all night.» Food came out incorrect and even after we specifically asked for certain items to arrive as appetizers they still arrived at the table with our entrée items. I wanted nothing for free when I asked for the manager, I am a firm believer that you pay for the service you receive but if you’re dissatisfied with the experience, then you should never go back. I have been in the restaurant business for 5 years and counting now as a area manager for a group of restaurants here in Georgia. I can assure you that if something like what happened to me at Catch 228 happened in any of my stores then I would have terminated not only the manager but the waitress as well. I reached out to several connections on the island and have since learned that any attempt at trying to contact the owner of the restaurant would be futile as in he has apparently had several similar complaints about the management and service staff and since then done nothing. The best thing for this business would be to be purchased by someone who knows what they are doing and then to completely clean house starting with the management followed by the wait staff and kitchen crew.

We have loved Catch 228 in the past, but when we were there last Christmas break, the service was terrible. This Christmas break, we thought we would give them a second chance, but again, the service was terrible. Food didn’t come out together, took forever, but was good once we got it! Our waitress was super nice and doing her best, but she was doing everything!

Ate here for the second time tonight and didnt enjoy it nearly as much. They no longer serve blue crab claws, which is why I loved it so much the first time and its the reason I returned. Food was average this time.

Service staff and ambience great. Reason the review is low, the oysters where the size of a quarter. I will definitely be back but gonna hope for bigger raw oysters. Raw should be bigger than a quarter.

Hard to review because we only ate shrimp. Service was ok but we were not overly impressed. Food was overpriced. Atmosphere was blah. The dining area was very small for a stormy Friday night which made for a long wait. We would like to eat here again to try something else on the menu but are only giving it for now.

Questionable upon entry, crowded and no one had food in front of them. We were immediately seated, and within 2 minutes our drink orders were placed. Amanda, our server checked on us a minimum of 8 times during our meal. We were done eating dinner within forty minutes of entry. We shared a combo platter, great scallops! Reasonably priced, overall a good outing.

My husband, granddaughter and I just returned from eating a fabulous dinner here. We ordered a dozen raw oysters($ 9) and they arrived very quickly — ice cold and delicious! We split a fried seafood platter($ 26) — again delivered speedily and prepared divinely. Our sides were broccoli slaw and cheese grits. Granddaughter had grilled cheese sandwich($ 5) and homemade chips from the kid’s menu. The chips tasted like they were fried in old grease, but that’s my only complaint. Overall, a delightfully, scrumptious meal. This was our fourth visit and we’ll definitely be back!

While the food was good, we recommend going over to Gnats for the better ambience. Service was horrible, we could have gotten up and left the restaurant without paying it took them so long to come pick up the checks. Low country boil was great, make sure you get the crab legs. Sissy says the fried shrimp was good, but not worth the $ 30 market price.

Best service I have had in a really long time. 228 sauce was a little disappointing. Kinda just tasted like watered down franks red sauce. We both had shrimp platters, good slaw, good mashed potatoes and quality mixed vegetables. Shrimp not the biggest today and nothing really blew my mind about this meal. Maybe I ordered the wrong thing. Probably should have ordered off the raw bar. Will be back next time we are in town to try more.

What a horrible experience. Ordered two chicken wraps and two salads and after 45 minutes approached the manager to ask what was the hold up. Manager just said they were busy. Never going there again. Go to Southern Soul instead.

My husband and I ate here last night. Small place not great for very large groups unless you pre-plan. They appear to be very accommodating. Started with oysters on the half shell. Fantastic! Followed by the she crab soup which had large chunks of perfectly cooked crab. Finished with the shrimp and grits that were the perfect texture along with the sauce and the bacon added the perfect smoke flavor. Super casual place with a good bar crowd for off season. I would recommend this place to anyone of my friend that are chefs.

Oysters galore! My love for seafood drove me straight to this place on a date night last Saturday. This joint is located in St. Simons near what seemed to be a busy little seaside strip of bars and touristy shops. It was so cute and of course slightly romantic with all the lights lit up at night(with the exception of the fun loving drunkards roaming the streets, but they were nice: D). Anyway, I cannot account so much for the interior nor the bar service as we choose to sit outside due to the warm weather. It seemed to be a popular thing that night despite it being in the beginning of December. The outside set up is very casual, sit where you want basically and get served. The tables were clear and overall ambiance was casual nautical, if that makes any sense. Our waitress was super nice, all smiles and helpful. I enjoyed the menu a lot! Many options for oyster cooked in a variety of styles. I’m a hardcore raw oyster lover sans lemon nor sauce, just straight up great slimeness is my usual fare. BUT! The oyster fare on the menu peaked my curositiy so I ended up ordering the Oyster 228, my date the Shrimp and Grits. For an appetizer we ordered a rare Ahi Tuna. The Oyster 228 was light and cooked well so that the oyster weren’t chewy but melted in my mouth. The creamy but thin sauce with the spinach complemented the oysters. The shrimp n’ grits were also light but creamy. The shrimps were of high quality but a couple weren’t deveined, although that part didn’t bother me whatsoever because they were awesome. My least favorite was probably the ahi tuna. The quality was good, beautifully striations were visible but the overall presentation and complimentary sauces were lacking. It was a large slab of tuna rather than small bits that I’m accustomed to. Regardless, it was good just nothing to be blown away by. I being a lush also ordered a Lemon Drop Maritini which was decent, going heavy on the vodka is typically a good thing but I wished for a slightly more lemony taste. Overall? I would definitely go back to this place because I love Oysters and this place does it right. Casual atmosphere, friendly quiet service and a romantic outdoor setting is definitely a go to for me :)

It wasn’t bad. If I came back it would probably be with a group. Otherwise I will check out what the rest of the island has to offer… The patio is great and they do have one of my favorite wines: Whitehaven Sauvignon Blanc. It took forever for us to be greeted and it wasn’t busy at all. Mehh. We ordered the Ahi tuna appetizer which is seared around the edges(I like it totally rare). It was good smothered in sauce and topped with ginger. My boyfriend got the special: swordfish — I thought it was a tad overdone. I ordered the low country boil. This dish was perfect for me. I love me some crab legs and shrimp! Overall I think the outdoor setting is great, service could use some work. Our tab was over $ 100 which I felt was a little high for what we received.

My experience may have been a little a-typical at Catch 228. I came here with 5 friends during Ga//FL weekend so they were BUSY. We wandered over to the red fern area thinking that it would be a little less crowded than the village. Parking was plentiful and there was no wait. As soon as we sat down, hoards of people poured in. We ordered drinks and as well as appetizers of calamari and oysters. The oysters were sweet, delicious East coast oysters. The calamari was also a big win for the table. Then began the epic waiting. After we finished our appetizers, our food didn’t arrive for about 50 minutes. Our waitress kept telling us it would only be another 5 minutes which kind of made it worse. During the epic waiting, the bar area of the restaurant continued to fill up with a few college students and a lot of people in their 40’s and 50’s. Eventually our meal came. I shared the crab cakes with a friends and had fries as my side. The crab cakes were splendidly delicious. Two people ordered shrimp and grits that looked really tasty. We were all happy with our meals, we just wished the food had come faster. Dinner took about 2 hours. The atmosphere at Catch 228 is classic Saint Simon’s. Very casual beach restaurant with really good seafood. The tables have paper as the table cloths and crayons are available making it a great place to bring kids. There is some seating available outside when the weather permits and there is a sizable bar area inside. The menu has all of the classic seafood dishes you typically find at the beach and the staff was friendly despite their slowness. I think on a normal night Catch 228 would be a great. With the convenient parking it offers as well as the delicious food, you can’t go wrong here … unless its GA//FL weekend…
