All I can say it will be my first and last time here… Sushi rolls are sloppily made, my sister said that this place was pretty good the last time she came here. Unfortunately they changed their sushi roll chef for the worse. Service is half-ass, its like pushing and pulling just to get water.

Although I’ve only been a customer at this restaurant for just about two/three months, I have eaten here countless times because it is just such a lovely restaurant!(: My friend and I are regulars here. The restaurant is a bright orange building, hard to miss when you’re strolling about in the plaza. The first thing anybody would notice is probably the large banner across the front that says’ ‘Grand Opening 15% Off.’ This was what drew my attention at first, admittedly. You enter from the front door, on the side of the building, which I thought was weird — why not make the door in front of the store the main entrance? Anyway, since the restaurant has plenty of windows, the waitresses and chefs inside can see you as you walk around the storefront to the main entrance. Upon entering, you can expect to have a cheery and smiley waitress greeting you and directing you to your table with menus in her hand not long after. After seating, she will ask you what drinks you would like, and bring up a bowl of complimentary edamame(I don’t have much to say about it, as I am not a big fan of edamame). After giving you a few good minutes to look over the menu, she will ask if you are ready to order, and proceed to take your order if the answer is yes. Their menu has a pretty broad selection. They have many appetizers, different udon, nigiri, etc. Their selection of special rolls is decent — not too little, but not as big of a selection as Makiyaki’s. Anyways, I always come here with my friend, and we always order: two cokes, two miso soups, and three special rolls. Some of our favorites are Snow Dragon, Godzilla, and Honey Crunch Roll. The Snow Dragon is DELISH, and a must try. The other two rolls are tasty and filling. All rolls have nice portions. The miso soup comes in a fairly large bowl and tastes flavorful and warms my tummy every time. Soda refills are free — «If you want refill, it’s just for free» — and oh yeah, green tea ice cream is rich and creamy, yummy! Besides the tasty sushi, the service is impeccable. The waitresses always take time to come over to your table to check up on how you’re doing and clear up table room when you’re done with any plates/bowls, and the chefs are talkative and laugh quite a lot, which brightens up the place. I especially love the young waitress with straight long hair(broad description, I know, but they don’t have much staff). When we go eat there, she never fails to wave at us when we’re walking around the front from inside the restaurant. And, she’s always happy when we come in to get take-out. My only complaint about this business is that it’s too empty. Almost every time we came here to eat, the restaurant was nearly bare and very little customers were coming in, perhaps due to the grand opening of the restaurant. I’m not sure if Ha Ru Sushi is even running anymore, to be honest. Every time I walk by nowadays, they are not open. Did they go out of business?

Let me first explain that I am extremely weary of trying new sushi restaurants. I hate spending a lot of money and being disappointed. So, I admit to being a little scared of trying Ha Ru. However, when their sign advertised 15% off everything as their opening special, I had to take the risk. And believe me, it was well worth it. Even without the temporary discount, their prices for rolls and sashimi are low enough for me to invite friends to join me for dinner. Rarely do I ever get to say that sushi, particularly sashimi, is as good as it gets. But, really, there is no other way to describe the fresh fish I recently had at Ha Ru. I shared the combo sashimi platter with my husband, and every single piece of fish was melt-in-my-mouth tender. My husband teased me and asked if I was about to cry. When fish is that fresh, the flavors are not compromised with any fishiness. The white tuna, salmon, maguro, and hamachi were all so buttery that my mouth was in heaven. One of the specials that day was a form of jalapeño popper, stuffed with spicy tuna, which was both hot and tantalizing on my tongue. Their miso soup ranked in my top five for miso soup. I will have to try their salad another time. The wait staff is a tad nervous and a little unorganized, but all that is easily forgiven when they are so friendly and try to compensate with complimentary bowl of edamame. For a sushi restaurant, the grade of the sashimi says it all. I was beyond impressed with this little place’s food and prices. I will certainly be back. I can only hope that the quality of the food stays just as great five months from now. If so, I’ll be giving 5 stars for the next review.

I really want to give this place 5 stars! Edamame as an appetizer. The Lion King and the Warrior rolls tasted great. The Strawberry Mochi was soft but not melting served with chocolate and whip cream. Then to finish a pineapple served in the shape of a bird! My with holding of the star comes from the slow service from the kitchen. Our waitresses were amazing. Always refilled our tea and water, asking if we ordered, and letting us know the food is on the way. It took 25– 30 minutes for it to come out. Do not come in hungry. We waited and waited, but after so long I had to ask when the food was coming. When it did arrive the presentation was nice, the temperature was nice and the flavor was great. It is under new ownership and so have a grand opening special of 15% off. It’s worth it, I just hope it was a fluke slow serve night.

Went there last night with the better half and let me just say this. THEJALAPENOPOPPERROLLWASSOGOODTHATWEORDERED A SECONDONE! We were originally going for Mexican(wife is Mexican) and passé by here and she said you wanna have some sushi. Of course I said yes. The rest as they say is history. The service was excellent and the daily specials included Kobe steak skewers! The prices on the specials were priced to perfection and with the 15% off, it made it easy to order a lot of food adn think about it. The food took a little bit of time to get to us, then Ifigured out why. It takes time to make the jalapeño poppers! It comes with a side of arugala(sp) salad with a light vinegar dressing. We had the Warrior roll(highly recommend) and the Oakland Roll(wife thought it was o.k.) and the something crunch roll(good) and finally the Jalapeño Popper roll. For everything we had with 2 miso soups the price was $ 42.10 with tax! GOTOTHISPLACEANDGOOFTEN!!!

Ha Ru Sushi Bar is celebrating it’s grand opening by offering 15% off. don’t know how long this will last. though the eatery has almost the same name, the people and owners here are all new. a sushi bar has been added to the center of the counter. random pics of japanese dishes adorn the wall. the décor thruout is simple and soothing. menu: small plates(appetizers), ramen/udon, sushi roll(5ish), sushi rolls(10ish), bento boxes, nigiri(4ish), sashimi(6ish for 4 slices), teriyaki and other traditional japnese dishes. eats: –miso soup better than average –salad average taste with above average ingredients(tomato?) –chirashi dinner(13.95) very good sushi rice, nicely vinegared, lots of it about 20 fresh pieces sashimi: suzuki, tako, tamago, ebi, tuna, albacore, small/big tobiko, salmon, etc. hamachi no. –chicken yakitori(2/$ 4.75) wasn’t fully cooked first time. 2nd time taste bland, needs more marinating? edanmane bean comped –ok, not tuff temaki: –5 stars for inexpensive food option/diverse menu –15% off for grand opening, not sure for how long. –sashimi, nigiri fresh, by extension, rolls should be good. –unsure about ramen, grilled japanese items. –owners different from previous ones.

Ha-Ru Sushi is back open again, this time renamed Ha-Ru Bar and Restaurant! I was walking home a couple days ago and passed by as usual, but noticed the doors were open and people were inside, only to see a «Grand Opening» banner across the doorway. I went in today to check it out and was greeted by a nice waitress who told us everything was 15% off to celebrate the reopening. The food was absolutely delicious; my brother ordered a 2-item bento, which was only $ 8.75, and there was a sizable portion of teriyaki chicken in his box. We ordered a couple of different rolls, which were really big and also a generous serving, and made with very fresh fish. The gyoza appetizer and the miso soup were good too(I’ve had bad miso before, and this was far from it). The menu is a lot more extensive here than it was before, with more rolls, plates, drinks, and dessert options. A new sushi bar has been installed where the counter used to be, and you no longer go up to the counter to pay and then seat yourself; this is more of a traditional dining experience, with you being seated and your order taken by a waitress. The service was very quick and we were asked a couple of times how the food and our experience was. They’re definitely trying to get back into their groove and making sure they’re doing it right. The waitress also shyly asked if we wouldn’t mind Unilocaling the place to help their reputation. Didn’t even need to ask! I was already planning a five-star review as I was eating. Keep it up Ha-Ru, you’re off to a great start. Oh, almost forgot to mention, right now if you spend at least $ 20 when you eat in, you get to choose one of four appetizers to get free!

Came here for the first time today as I was in need of a quick sushi fix. Hubby and I were a little skeptical walking in as the place was empty, but we tried it anyway. Yep. It hit the spot. The Dragon Roll was one of the best I’ve had in a while, but I can’t remember the last time I had a Dragon Roll. I wasn’t looking for a spicy roll, so I wasn’t ecstatic about the Cinderella Roll we ordered, but it had good flavor to it. If you’re looking for a quick sushi fix in San Leandro, this is the place.

This place is good for a quick lunch if you’re in the area. They have a lot of space, but not so much that the servers forget about you. Service is pretty good too. They make recommendations and answer questions, and they are very friendly. The food is so-so, I have certainly had better Japanese. But it’s good value for money, their bento boxes in particular. If you’ve never had Japanese soda, you may wanna try it for the novelty — but let me tell you that while the bottle is definitely interesting(and may require some violent movements before you can even take a sip of your soda), the novelty will wear out, it tastes just like Sprite, so save yourself the trouble and just get Sprite.

I was really very excited to try this place. Though I know sesame is good for me, Tsuri Sushi forgets to exclude them from my rolls every frikkin time. As always, I ordered vegetarian rolls and udon noodles. The rolls were poorly wrapped making it fall apart easily and the seaweed itself was flavorless. The udon noodles were unremarkable. The quality of both the food and service at Tsuri is definitely superior. I will just need to be sure to check all of my to-go orders for those pesky sesame seeds before I go. ;)

I stopped here for Lunch. The Location used to be a Taco Bell they did a great job of masking that. I was greeted at the door and seated instantly. I looked at there Menu and noticed they have a Bento Box so i ordered the 3 item one –Chicken Katsu, Tempura and Beef Short Ribs. It comes with Soup or Salad. They had my food in front of me in 15 Minutes. Good size portions. Pretty Yummy. I would return. I’m a sucker for a Bento Box. :D They accept Mastercard and Visa.

This is a Chinese-run sushi place. For the price and quantity, I will give this place 3 stars bordering on 3 + stars. It’s not high-end sushi, but at the same time, it’s not bad, bait-quality sushi either. The prices are reasonable for the quantity and the sashimi slices are generously sized. I’ve been here twice, and since it’s in the ‘hood, reasonably priced with friendly service, I am sure I will be back. This is not a place you’d go to impress a date, or take moms out for a special outing, but it’s not a bad option for filling up hungry teenagers.

Needed to find a sushi place that would/could accommodate a large group of 11 people, including 6 kids. Ha-Ru, newly opened in San Leandro, fit the bill perfectly. First, this place used to be the home of a Taco Bell. That being said, you know the fast-food restuarant layout of the place. Ha-Ru did a fairly good job of trying to cover that all up. Still looks like a fast food joint but I am more into what the prices are, what the food tastes like and the customer service than the décor. We ordered two of the Family Platter B options($ 69.99 each) for the whole fam and mother-in-law ordered the seafood tempura($ 6.25). Holy Ginormous Yellowfin, Batman! I am sorry I didn’t take pictures of the spread for you kind folks. We had so much food that a party of 11 which included 2 large teenage boys, three of my ravenous offspring and my fat bro-in-law, couldn’t finish it all. And oh did we try! I thought the fish was very fresh, much better than I expected. No strong fishy odor just a nice light fresh ocean-y smell which made it easier for us to tempt the kids to the ‘Dark Side’ and get them to try sashimi. All of the kids tried the sashimi, most liked it. The rolls(dragon, california and rainbow) were all a hit. The spicy tuna roll illicited some shrugged shoulders. Something was a bit off on this one. Think the spicy sauce was too runny and hence made the roll sorta soggy. Service was super friendly and fast, waitress smiled and knowingly nodded when I asked for forks for the kids and brother-in-law. Hey, it was either the forks or rolls were gonna be flying all over the restaurant. ;) The food and drinks came out faster than expected. I was surprise considering the size of our order and group. From perusing the menu, prices for other items and meal options are very reasonable and you will get your money’s worth. Not too much, not skimpy portions either. This restaurant provides a good, casual dining experience, just sad this place wasn’t in Oakland. ;)

We discovered this sushi spot on our way to another venue. I’m sometimes like a mosquito. I get attracted to lights… that’s what happened when I saw Ha-Ru Sushi. The lights caught my eye.(that’s another reason I love Vegas so much… the lighhhhhtsss). We came in and were completely confused. Do you order then sit down? Do you just sit down? It’s so confusing. They have a menu like it’s a fast food restaurant… then they have menus. What the hell do you do??? So we stood there contemplating what the hell to do… and then were asked if we wanted to take a seat. Oh I guess… we do sit down and order! The food arrived quick and prices are very decent. The only thing I was not a fan of was their tempura. Their tempura was overly oily and left an aftertaste with the oil they use. However, their staff and owners are very friendly and accommodating. I’d recommend this spot for a quick stop for lunch… but parking can be an issue in this complex as it’s in a small shopping center area.

Party of 8. Hungry eye ordering. Loads of food. Lots of leftovers. 8 tubby, but happy people. Initially, I was turned off by the ambiance and setting of this restaurant. As some others have said earlier, it has a very fast food — McDonald’s feeling to it. As our dishes came flying out the kitchen, I put all judgments aside — also because I was a hungry beast. Everything was delicious and reasonably priced. What more can one ask for? **Seaweed salad with poki — $ 4.95 Just ordinary seaweed salad topped with really fresh tuna. **Bento box with beef short ribs and tori karaage — $ 7.95 Beef short ribs are really flavorful. I would say similar to kalbi, but not quite the same. The tori karaage is basically small pieces of fried chicken. I think I could have done without this because it seemed a bit bland and dry. I would have rather gotten the beef or chicken teriyaki. **San Leandro roll — $ 8.95 This is oh so unbelievably good. Must order. I’m pretty sure they use real crab meat because it was white and not pink. It’s topped with really fresh salmon and tuna. Mmmmm… There was also an array of udon, chicken teriyaki, sashimi and a bunch other stuff. None of which disappointed. The portions are also a lot bigger than I thought it would be. Service was extremely friendly. I would definitely come back here. I’m ready to try more rolls. I think I just drooled a little. :P

Wow, so far I’m impressed! Excellent rolls and sashimi, great service, and reasonable prices. Their rolls almost remind me of(dare I say it) our dearly departed Ichiban of Hayward. Ha-Ru, if you’re my new Ichiban, prepare for me to move in.

Ha-Ru Sushi is a brand spankin’ new addition to the downtown San Leandro scene. It sits in the spot where the taco bell used to be across from Safeway and next to Asian delight. I went into this place on a whim on the 12th and somehow managed to not bump into the other hundred folks who visited on Friday. It was empty when I got there, but shortly after I sat down the restaurant began to fill up again. The décor and layout is that of a fast food restraint with Ikea japanese style tables and chairs. The prep station in the back is huge but they only use about a quarter of it. They have fountain drinks which is a plus and a rarity for japanese restaurants. Portions are generous for anything inside a bento box, the sushi rolls are a little larger than normal and yet the sashimi portions are not. The prices are average with bento boxes at seven to ten dollars. The family running this place are a little odd and social interaction at the counter is almost awkward, but everyone is very polite and eager to make sure that everything is ok. I have not tried their soy sauce, but if it is the cheap chinese sauce that I heard about this place will be loosing a star soon. The location is not very inviting, modest or any other adjective that would make this place seem warm. It is an old manufactured and cold taco bell made to serve fast food and when you’re inside despite any efforts it still has somewhat of an industrial atmosphere which was fine for picking u a burrito to go, but seems to distract me while trying to sit and enjoy my dinner. Overall, the place needs to pay extra attention to the small details like; window coverings, soy sauce, wall décor and take home menus,(they ran out). I can’t quite put my finger on anything else tangible that makes Ha-Ru better or worse, but the vibe here just isn’t quite where it could be for me to visit here more than every once in a while. CHAD

Yes, Ha-Ru hasn’t been open for a long time. Usually, new restaurants tend to need time to get their food in order but not Ha-Ru. I ate here yesterday and it was a great combination of delicious food, service and the prices were reasonable for the type of service and food served. I had the 2 item bento box for at about 9 dollars. I had teriyaki salmon and tempura as my two items. First came the miso soup and it was a rich piping hot white miso. Really good in comparison to the miso offered in all other local Sushi houses. Once the bento box came out, I was almost speechless. I haven’t seen such a large bento box in a while. I tried not to get ahead of myself since quantity doesn’t always equal quality. The salmon was really superb. The sauce used was obviously house-made none of that bottled stuff. It was a large cut with close to perfect grill marks. The tempura was not oily and just battered enough. I think this is the second best tempura I have tried in the area(san leandro, hayward, oakland area). I wasn’t a fan of the salad dressing because it wasn’t spiced enough for me. But the salad was extremely fresh. The service was really awesome. Very kind folks and they checked up on us several times throughout the meal. Overall 4 stars for what I had and for their great service. I will be ordering sashimi and sushi the next time around and will update. From the folks I saw sitting by us, the sushi rolls look extraordinary so I am looking forward to it!
