Total hole-in-the-wall tiny space, but the bagels are DELICIOUS. There is a young man who works here who has been here forever and is always so gracious, super friendly and smiling… a true treat for sure. In addition to awesome bagels, they serve Taylor Made coffee and I will literally drive OUTOFMYWAY to stop in when I am anywhere near this spot.

I’ve had a lot of bagel sandwiches in cities across the country. This place is easily in my top 5.

This place is pretty good for a quick bagel on your way out of town. Definitely a good hangover cure after a night at Hopmonk! The service could be friendlier… usually some young girls who barely say hello to you and look annoyed when you order. I get it. You’re busy. I wished they seasoned the egg bagel sandwiches with salt and pepper. Otherwise it’s fast, hot, and filling. When it’s really busy you won’t find anywhere to sit since there are only a couple tables outside. Probably the best bagel breakfast sandwich in Sebastopol but not all of Sonoma county.

This a great place, bagels are nice and fresh as is the coffee. Its a quirky little place but it fits right in to Sebastopol. The staff are nice enough and get you in and out quick. Don’t expect then to chat you up about your day or the weather… that won’t happen!

This was one of the few favorite places left to walk to in Sebastopol that hasn’t gone out of business yet, but now it’s gone to the dogs too. They’re trying to train some new teenagers to work here but they obviously don’t get it. The customer service has seriously deteriorated since this summer, with almost all new people there. The new kids on the block left out all of the vegetals on my sandwiches 3 times in a row [all different gals], which was 3 times in 3 months. We used to come here every week but no more. They’ve also stopped serving salad sandwiches as well. Last time I had an Ian’s Oasis, & the pastrami? was so tough it was like shoe leather. They’ve even put in 1 of those new card readers you have to sign with your fingernail, making it easier for anyone that steals a credit card to use it. I’ll still buy day old bagels here, but I will never eat here again.

Great bagels, excelent sandwiches. Quick service. They could improve in the place(a little bit messy), but if you don’t care, one of the best bagels.

I love the Foxy Lox bagel. Who doesn’t like a bagel? It’s a busy place but bagels are always great! It is also a small place… they are very friendly and get you your request in a timely manner. Great stop for us on weekends and occasional weekday treat.

Stumbled upon this tiny place several months ago, who doesn’t love a bagel? They have a large variety of flavors to choose from as well as a menu with so many different ways to enjoy them, from capers to cucumbers. I love that they have a great variety of hot and cold teas to choose from. My personal fav is the cheesy jalapeño with cream cheese(so daring). Breakfast lunch or a snack, this place is cute, easy on the pocket & has a friendly staff. MADEFRESHDAILY& day old discount bagels. Yum!

I’m going to start by saying that I LOVE Grateful Bagel. By far the best bagels in Sonoma County, they’re pizza bagels are to die for. The service is always excellent, the girls they have working are always so friendly and efficient. This shop had been a sebastopol favorite for years, unfortunately this is no longer a buisness I can support. First of all, there’s usually about of 50⁄50 chance of them being out of what you want. They’re constantly out avocado, bacon, and various sandwhich ingredients. Clearly the store owners are not as concerned with customer satisfaction as they should be. My largest concern is the treatment of employees. Lately every time I have come in they have been short staffed, and the poor girls they working are left completely overwhelmed by a line of customers reaching out the door. And the shop is just WAY too hot. The working conditions are just inhumane, a few afternoons I’ve been in and it’s been over 90° in there. How can that even be legal? Many times I’ve had to walk out or avoid stopping there even though I’ve loved these bagels for over 10 years, since I first moved to sebastopol. It’s a shame to lose such a formerly great buisness.

My boyfriend and I go to Grateful Bagel all the time, although it is definitely not for the customer service. Well… as some other reviewers have already mentioned, there is one dude there(I think the only male who works there?) who is AMAZING! He is always smiling and attentive and has the best customer service of anyone we have ever seen. A good percentage of the other employees, however – who are teenage girls with apparently no training in good customer service – often have some serious attitude problems that get directed toward those they serve, making us feel uncomfortable, upset, and frustrated. Today we ordered two bagel sandwiches. When we opened them, they were both made wrong: one did not have any cream cheese, and the other one did not have turkey OR cream cheese, but had hummus instead. We went back in and politely let them know what was missing(or wrong) so that we could get it quickly fixed, and the girl we spoke to(a different girl than the one who made the bagels) was extremely rude to us. She immediately got a sour expression on her face, sighed, and treated us like we were inconveniencing her entire existence.(By the way, my boyfriend and I have both worked in customer service for many years and empathize with those in service positions, making sure to never treat them in ways we have been treated by customers ourselves). I opened the bagels to explain that there was no cream cheese, and to show her that my boyfriend’s bagel was made incorrectly, and she asked in an angsty tone: «Well, did she put cheese in your eggs?» I looked and said I didn’t know, I didn’t think so, and was going to suggest that we ask the girl that made it just seconds before… but before I could finish she pulled my bagel away and angrily sighed: «Well, I guess just I have to remake it then…» I should also note that there was only one other customer in the building, and he had already been helped; it was not at all busy at this point in time. By this point I had become a little flustered because I felt so uncomfortable and like I should apologize to her for something, and I started getting a little shaky with discomfort. I stumbled over my words, stuttering«No…no that’s OK. You can just add cream cheese… Thank you…»(We were sort of in a hurry, and didn’t need to waste food and unnecessarily make entirely new bagels. I would have even offered to put cream cheese on myself). She also asked my boyfriend like 5 times what she was supposed to do with his bagel, although it was not at all complicated. They needed to remake his bagel anyway. As they did so, he remembered that he had also paid extra for avocado. He politely let them know that he had also ordered avocado, and the same girl let him know that sorry, but they were out. He inquired about how much extra the avocado had cost, but instead of offering to refund his extra money the girl said: «I will put extra turkey on there.» He did not need extra turkey, but at this point we were honestly kind of over the whole experience. Although the bagels are pretty good(the espresso is TERRIBLE by the way, at least last time I had it a few years ago… like, undrinkable terrible), the service makes us feel super crappy too often for us to be enthusiastic about going back. If it weren’t so close to our house – and if the super awesome friendly guy didn’t work there(give that man a raise!) – we probably wouldn’t.

Overall, this place hits the spot like no other on a Saturday/Sunday morning. Their bagels are truly my favorite, the pizza bagel specifically. I’m no bagel connoisseur so I’m not sure what the true«bagel standards» are but I find them to have a balanced texture — fluffy in the center with a nice crust on the outside. Their sandwiches are also crazy good, a tid bit pricey but oh so good. If I had to give any constructive criticism, this place gets packed and as I result I avoid during peak hours.

Great bagels! But service leaves a lot to be desired! No smiles & no thank u’s! Also, what happened to the music??? No music? Create an atmosphere in there please??? It would be nice while waiting 10 + minutes in line. But Thnx for the yummiest bagels!

It’s a little confusing on a busy day when you walk through the doors at Grateful Bagel. The dead references are a cute kick that sets this restaurant apart in the charming ultra crunchy town of Sebastopol. The sizes they offer in ice coffee could be a little larger but the coffee is delicious. The bagel choices are vast and you can put almost anything you could imagine inside as well. Overall it’s a wonderful little place but gets super crowded easily on busy days.

I love the Grateful Bagel. Best bagels around and wonderful service. Local’s only tip, ask for the bagel holes. They aren’t on the menu, you have to ask for them. Most bagel shops keep the holes for the employees, because they are the Filet Mignon of the bagel. Fantastic! If they don’t think you are a local, they’ll act like they don’t know what you are talking about.
