Had dinner here last night. 2nd time in. Very disappointed, again. Had the beet salad. It was supposed to be cold. It was warm, wilted and had a rubbery texture. My husband ordered the prime rib but they were out. So he ordered the chicken. Sent it back, it was wayyy over cooked. Ordered shrimp kabobs. They were good but the piped out potatoes and veggies were cold and hard like they been sitting for a while. Although the atmosphere and staff were wonderful, this is the 2nd time we’ve been disappointed in the food. 2nd time it’s been cold. We won’t be back. :(

We went to Riverview for our Anniversary on the recommendation of a local cousin. Outside seating was amazing. Our waiter, Peter, recognized we were there for a special evening and paced our experience perfectly. Bottle of wine, appetizers that melt in your mouth, the Kobe steak and risotto were cooked perfectly. Topped off with a yummy dessert on the house. This is a hidden treasure and we will definitely go back and recommend to friends traveling to the area. Best dining experience we’ve had in a very long time… maybe ever!

We got the calamari, steak bites, fish and chips, and a Caesar salad. My boyfriend ordered a strawberry margarita and I got a Long Island ice tea. Drinks, food, ANDSERVICE were great! You HAVE got to get the cod fish and chips! Their fries? I can’t even explain them, other than saying they are the best tasting French fries I have had in a LONG time. Happy hour or full menu, both options are a win.

I will keep this short and sweet. Outstanding riverside views and exceptional service, ok the service is a tad better than exceptional. Everything was cooked to perfection. I will give four out of five just to give them something to shoot for.

Went to Riverview for Mother’s Day and for the buffet but after arriving at 4:30pm we were told«oh there is no buffet» what was for brunch and it went downhill from there. Took 15mins to get seated at our table and the service was very slow and had to ask for the dirty dishes to be removed after we had our soup and salads. I had the clam chowder and it tasted like the main ingredient was bacon and not clams. The entrees were also just bad, I had the filet & prawns and asked for it medium rare and it came well done«no pink» at all and the three small prawns were over cooked too. My wife had the pomegranate chicken and it was only missing one thing… the pomegranate molasses and my son had the brisket and it was very fatty. Overall I have not had that bad of a dining experience in a very longtime. The Riverview restaurant has a wonderful location by the river but sadly does not have the service or food to go with the location. Will never go back.

My previous review had this at 4 stars. However, everytime we have been back(dinner or happy hour) the food has gotten worse and the service has declined. At these prices, there are much better places to eat at Portland. While the location is great, spend your money elsewhere.

We were a group of 11 who went there on an unusually warm April evening. Had reservations and sat outside for our dinner. The waiter showed up after about 20 minutes and 45 minutes later our first drink arrived. Second drink took equally as long, another 45 minutes. «Bartender is backed up» was the reason. The food came after 2 hours! My husband and I ordered from the dinner menu. Bad mistake. The $ 35 prime rib looked nice but was not not warm. My thai shrimp and fish were heavily breaded and dried out on two skewers. Lukewarm mashed potatoes. Flavorless Caesar salad. The people that ordered from the bar menu were more satisfied with their meals. Didn’t dare to order a 3rd glass of wine. We would never gotten out of there.(Server never came around to ask anyway). Fortunately we were a larger group and enjoyed visiting but the wait and service really got to us. And how they have the nerve to put on an automatic service charge of 20% for such poor service! Mr Yoshida certainly had not planned his staff well. And most annoying; small parties of two who came in after us were served and were done before we even got our food. I will give it two stars only because we were told the clam chowder and the fish and chips were ok.

We made reservations at Riverside to celebrate my daughter’s 30th birthday. There were 10 adults in our party. We all arrived within 5 minutes of each other and were seated. We sat for 15 minutes before our waitress appeared to take drink orders. Once ordered, she brought water and bread. Another 15 –20 minutes went by before 9 of the drinks were delivered and then she disappeared again. The restaurant was not busy and there were other servers attending to other guests. Our waitress finally reappeared and took our dinner orders. Upon bringing the appetizers I was able to catch her attention to tell her I still hadn’t received my drink. No apologies… she walked to the bar and miraculously came back with my drink…40 minutes after I ordered it. The food was very well prepared and good, although portions are small for the price. They were out of one of the menu items which was surprising given the almost empty dining room and the fact they had only been open for an hour. Our water glasses were never refilled, dirty plates were left in front of us until we began stacking them ourselves to get them out of the way and we had to flag down the waitress to get the complimentary birthday dessert for the birthday girl. Someone tipped off the pianist who played happy birthday when the dessert arrived. None of the singing waitresses or waiters mentioned in other reviews. Should also mention that Mr Yoshida himself was in the house stopping at tables and schmoozing customers. We were a large table of well dressed, quiet adults about to drop a large chunk of cash in his establishment, yet he never even acknowledged us. We will not be returning to this restaurant. Such a beautiful venue, but not worth the money or the drive.

Went here with my wife. Without too much detail, we were both extremely impressed with the food. Between the two of us, we had the fried artichoke harts, and chicken won tons as the appetizers. The entrees were Pomegranate Chicken and the Miso Glazed Salmon. The food, from start to finish, was exceptional. This is the first restaurant in a very long time where we both felt that there was nothing that could have been improved with our dishes. The temperature was perfect, the texture and flavors were excellent. I truly mean from start to finish the food was excellent. We also had dessert. The chocolate cake in white chocolate sauce. It wasn’t bad, but a slice for $ 8 is definitely a bit much. I would pass on dessert. The place it self was very clean and cozy… romantic dinner kind of feel. Very calm and quiet atmosphere. My only complaint, is that it is a little spendy. Portions are a little on the smaller side. Believe me, it did fill me up… just felt there should be more for the price you pay. I would highly recommend trying this place at least once!

good food, service and atmosphere. Recommend and will be back. First time we went out to this place even tho we called we were never told to make a reservation. Turned up all dressed and ready and were told we could not be served due to not having a reservation. Left a sour taste. It’s been yrs but we made a reservation today. The menu is limited and hrs are limited. However the food was very good, the coffee is very good which is rare in the US. Desert was ok and the drinks very good. The ambience is very nice. Wifi didnt connect

Every time I visit this place, I have to force myself to leave. Great atmosphere, great service, great drinks and, of course, great food. Thank goodness there’s a quality restaurant in East County for gathering with friends and family, and celebrating special occasions!

We arrived in the evening and wasn’t sure what to expect from the emptier parking lot. The staff was warm and welcoming, our server, Tuesday, was super friendly and on top of everything. The food was absolutely wonderful! The pianist, Craig, came in and just added to the wonderful ambiance of the evening. We plan on coming back again! Worth the drive from the hotel we were staying at over the weekend. Would highly recommend.

Went for happy hour. Ok drinks but terrible burger. I am pretty sure they make their burgers with frozen patties. Did not expect it from a «fancy» restaurant. Waitress was nice

I need to wave my finger at the owner of this place. You have one of the premier venues in all of Portland and the food is just not up to it, our service was not any better. You get one star for the venue. Let me start with the food, your chef needs to learn the difference between Medium-well and Medium Rare, I ordered the special for the night, Prime Rib, medium Rare, it was beyond medium, I would have sent it back but it took so long to get and there were other diners so I just ate it. The Au jus was some kind of watery tasteless tea that added nothing in flavor, instead of horseradish sauce, it was served with shredded pickled horseradish, which again was tasteless and added little to the dish. The asparagus was horrible, cold and bitter and you should be ashamed to serve something like that in your establishment. The potatoes were OK. My wife had the Caprese Salad, it was very good, but her next course, was a salad with a chicken breast on it, was OK, but the chicken breast was cold. the two young ones in our party ordered from the children’s menu the burger and the grilled cheese, they were OK, but again, the fires and the sandwiches were cold, I suspect they were sitting out for a long time before being served… which brings me to service. Our waiter was Andrew, we were seated outside on a warm day, we were the only table Andre had, at least outside, many people who arrived after us, served by other wait staff, had their orders taken and were served before us, at one point I had to go looking for him. He must be new because he did a lousy job of explaining the specials and menu, he also seemed distracted. Back to finger waving, I do not like writing bad reviews, but the owner really earned this one, you have taken a venue that should be a fantastic dining experience and ruined it. I doubt we will be back.

Pros: –Good food & professional service. Nice atmosphere. –Their live music was very melodic, subtle and definitely pleasurable. Cons: –My salad contained a slightly moldy tomato & I also found a piece of paper in my entrée(our waiter offered us a free dessert after the 2nd incident!). Their chefs must watch some Gordon Ramsay’s shows to learn that each plate has to be checked before it leaves the kitchen. –If they offer you a salad before your entrée, keep in mind that it costs 5 $. I am sure we will come back because there are some more dishes I would like to try.

I had a Groupon here that was about to expire, so I was grateful to get in. I had looked online at the menu, and it struck me as enticing. When I arrived, I was impressed with the interior space, the exterior setting, and the excellent customer service. My server arrived and asked about a beverage. I explained I needed his help selecting a wine-by-the-glass to go with my food. I initially chose the fried artichokes, cup of clam chowder, and Dungeness and artichoke ravioli. Learned they were out of the last item(at opening time). I was SO looking forward to those ravioli. Had to regroup. Server came back, and I said I’d create my own little tasting menu: Calamari, Fried Artichokes, Salmon Cakes, and a cup of Clam Chowder. He asked, «What order?» I said, «I don’t care.» Now, onto the wine. I asked about several, and my server gave me general answers. Finally, his words contradicted themselves, and I realized that he had been given vocabulary without education! Shame on the management for not teaching your staff properly! Anyway, here is where my server’s EXCELLENT customer service came in: He brought me two wine samples, which allowed me to easily select the right one for my food. And then all of the food arrived at one time. Clearly a misunderstanding, and not the end of the world. The food, however, was not a misunderstanding; it was average at best, and bad at worst. Calamari: cut from a larger squid into small batons/strips. Very tender, but soggy coating. No one wants soggy calamari. Salmon Cakes: OK, but nothing special. Totally average. Fried Artichokes: perhaps the best dish I ordered, these artichokes were crisp, they did have artichoke flavor, but the dill aioli that the menu said would be served with them was a drizzle on the plate rather than in a separate ramekin, which caused the crispy artichokes to go soggy(that is twice that I’ve used«soggy» in one review, which is not good). Clam Chowder: I took a spoonful. Nice consistency. Tender clams. And then, on the back palate, the distinct taste of mildew! WTF? I had to be mistaken. I cleared my palate with water, and then with wine, and again, I tasted mildew. I tried other foods, followed by the chowder, and each bite gave the impression of mildew. My analysis is that of all of the ingredients that can go into New England Clam Chowder, onions are the most likely to mildew, and the kitchen must have used old mildewy onions! Yes, really. Someday, I may give them another try at Happy Hour(or, maybe not). I honestly just wanted to get out of there. Five stars for setting. Four stars for service. But the food was just ridiculous(and not in a good way).

We visit Riverview about once a year. We go primarily for the atmosphere and the consistently satisfying food. Each year we are pleased with our beverages, entrees and desserts. This year, I revisited the Gorgonzola Butternut Ravioli and my husband had the Tropical Prawns and Scallops. We truly enjoyed our food with no need to add additional seasoning… the flavors were quite satisfying. Our waitress, Tuesday, was a treat. She was attentive and honest. Even though we did not get our appetizer, she was quick to graciously offer a dessert on the house – we had not expectation that this should happen. Our overall experience, this last visit, was a wonderful date night. Overall the menu has not seemed to transform leaps and bounds from year to year however we are more than happy to return to an inviting, relaxing and romantic environment. We will definitely return.

Yoshida Riverview Restaurant It was Sweetie’s birthday, and for the special occasion, we decided to try Yoshida’s Riverview Restaurant, way out east along the Sandy River in Troutdale. Our reservation was relatively early, about 30 minutes after opening for the evening. There were people out on their famous patio, overlooking the river, even though it was cold and windy. At this eatery, may people say it is all about the view from the deck. We were ready to brave the outdoor seating, but alas, it was Closed for the Season. We accepted a table window, overlooking the patio. We looked over the menu — one of those perhaps set by a youngster, who has not learned to capitalize letters — all sent in chic lower case. First, the fresh, warm bread served to our table made a very favorable impression. We started off with«won ton shumai» — steamed chicken dumplings in won ton wrappers & served with a reduction of «mr. yoshida’s» famous original Gourmet Sauce. We agreed it was a little bit bland, and could have used a little more sauce; I’m sure they had plenty of it available! They permitted us to split a large«caesar salad» made with romaine lettuce hearts tossed in house-made«caesar» dressing with parmesan-reggianito cheese & croutons. Standard, good; but a tad under dressed. I guess we like the sauce! Sweetie opted for the«american kobe» top sirloin steak, an 8-ounce«snake river» farm«kobe» top sirloin over garlic mashed potatoes, asparagus, shitake demi-glacé. Being an affectionate of both good steak — and garlic mashers — it was a good selection. At nearly $ 30 for the entrée, she said it seemed a little on the expensive side, given the stringent portion controls for the plating. By the end of her meal, she was smacking her lips, saying it was a very tasty meal. But, we agreed that we were in a «mr. yoshida’s» fine dining establishment, not a fill-‘em-up truck stop. My selection was the portabella chicken dinner, finished with provolone, aged gouda gnocchi, portabella mushroom and demi-glacé, served with a good portion of roasted vegetables. The chicken smelled fresh(an important factor to me) and tasted good and tender. The sauce was just right and delicious. And, the vegetables were nicely grilled and seasoned. I did not touch the salt or pepper shakers. The service was acceptable and professional. We weren’t in a hurry; the food came out warm, and we felt accommodated. In all, a toothsome repast. Due to the cost, it isn’t a place we will frequent, but may return in the future, after we hit the lottery!

This is a great destination for a romantic evening, but not much of a food destination. The focus is much more on a luxurious atmosphere than on providing quality food. The menu is small, and focuses on seafood. I tried the salon cakes as a starter. There were 3 good-sized cakes in the order, and they were served atop an herb sauce. The cakes were quite good… crispy exterior, good flavor, and quite a bargain at $ 7. They make up the profits on the main courses. I opted for the ribeye with smoked gouda gnocchi, really because the gnocchi sounded very good. Well, they weren’t good… they were not even average. They were really bad. The cheese was overcooked, and had broken into separate puddles of grease and cheese solids. This was quite an accomplishment considering the gnocchi were under-cooked. They tasted of raw flour, and were just a nasty, pasty mess. The steak’s temperature was spot-on, but it was horribly over-seasoned…far too much salt. It was also a disappointment. I was hoping the desserts would be better, but it looks like they either bring them in from an off-site commercial kitchen, or the pastry chef just stopped caring a long time ago. I’ve had better desserts at Denny’s. I got the carrot cake, and it too had a grainy, raw flour taste, which was particularly disturbing since the menu said it was gluten-free. A colleague got the cheesecake, and it was pretty bland and flavorless as well. I was very happy that I didn’t actually pay for dinner — we went as a company celebration. Perhaps it would have been better if we were not such a large group(approximately 12 people). I was so underwhelmed by the poor quality of the cuisine, especially in light of the high prices, that I’m not going to go back to find out.
