We went there yesterday to grab a bite to eat and have some beers. Beer was great and the cider but the food not so good and it’s run by a bunch of kids. 3 burgers with bacon and the bacon was bacon was charred real bad. When we told our server about it he told us that’s the way it is extra extra burnt. So not happy with the food just learn to cook bacon it can’t be that hard.

I love the wide selection of beers, and definitely appreciate someone to give me their opinion of ones I’m curious about. They’ve got good snacks and sandwiches if you’re in the mood for a nibble, and I love that they’re dog friendly! Constantly rotating taps means there’s always something new to try. This is a great place I always bring friends when they’re in town to sit down, enjoy a beer and catch up!

This is the go to spot for me in town. We are fortunate enough to be able to get to Truckee multiple times a month and we never skip this place. They have enough beer on tap to meet the demands of any and all who want to drink a beer… even a few ciders! Menu is decent with the sausages and pork pops being the best options, I have yet to try the sandwiches or paninis… The bartenders are knowledgeable about their beers and can recommend a beer for you if you ask… Even of the place is busy. And this place does get busy at times, so if you come here during one of those times recognize that fact and have your shit together. They recently reorganized their format from all beers being $ 5 with glass sizes based on cost and alcohol percentage to beers priced differently and with the option of 10oz or pint pours… Different from what I am used to there, but I think I like it better… Show up here dirty after a day ripping the trail or playing on the lake, just show up and enjoy the variety of beers on tap!

This place has dozens of beers on tap from local Craft brewers. Great choices. I had the Dope is Kung from Brewers Lair which is located in Blairsden. Great fresh happy IPA. I also had St. ARCHER and a stout that was equally good. This is the place to go if you like to try a variety of Craft beers. Sooo good.

Bummed… this spot has been one of my go-to’s when I have come to Truckee, enjoying it every other time, but tonight was AWKWARD!!! I walked in and all voices literally stopped, which I know, is what to be expected as a fellow [California] tourist… I’m just sayin, next time you come to drink in MY town,(Lagunitas, Bear Republic, 101 North, PLINY, etc), I’ll treat you like shit tooSooooo many beer places to choose from these days; you better sell your guest beers with customer service… After all, you never know who’ll walk in.

Always a great place for beers after skiing! Big selection of rotating craft brews with the majority of them $ 5, just with varying sizes. Board games, foosball, and TVs for the games. Bartenders are always helpful with suggestions on what to try if you’re not sure. They also have bar snacks and sausages if you get hungry. Their slogan is true-good sausages and great head :-)
Place is shitty! Service was far from mellow the scruffy midget with the hat and semi long hair was rude. The beer was good other than that id round house the bar keep in his teeth if it where legal.

2÷21÷16: After a good day on the slopes we came here to grab a drink. Cool and really chill place here. All the people hanging out here were super friendly and we had plenty to talk about. They got a Foosball table here that is free to play – that’s cool. Nothing fancy, but just a chill nice place. Now, as for the main reason we’re here – to drink… their beer list is quite good. Not the longest or stocked with the rarest stuff, but they got quite a bit. They also carry a couple rarer bottled beers for outright purchase. When I came they had 2 versions of Eclipse, and also… Bruery So Happens It’s Tuesday!!!(Check out the abbreviation.) Anyway, my friend brought a bottle over for dinner once, and god it’s good! I heard it’s a less-sweet version of the epic Black Tuesday. Anyway, I’ve been on the hunt for this, and it’s pretty rare. Found it here!!! Bought me 4 bottles at $ 24 each! I also had… 1. Almanac Beer Co. Valley Of The Heart’s Delight $ 12: Nice balanced sour. Pretty fruity. Totally my thing. Sorry, no crazy tasting notes from me – just a thumbs up. 8⁄10 2. Not Your Father’s Root Beer $ 5: So it looks like the creators claim this is a true beer. I dunno. But damn, it’s frickin’ good tasting. I mean, even ignoring any of the alcohol, it is amazing as a root beer in itself – the flavors are so intense. More intense than most pure root beers. Then you got the alcohol. Apparently as high as 10abv, if you can believe that. Anyway, awesome stuff. 10⁄10 3. Chipotle Cheddar Sausage on a Stick $ 6.50: Well, it’s locally made. Flavor is great. Kinda dry for a sausage though – probably was overcooked and too much juice leaked out. And nearly $ 7 is a bit much for one smaller-sized sausage. I say skip the sausage unless you’re really hungry. 5⁄10 Cool place. Good beer selection. Chill vibes. Hang ten! 4⁄5 #beer #bar

The food is good, but simple. Sausages are good but you can buy them cheaper from the local meat company and cook them yourself. Pork pops are awesome.

Bobby Keebler is the best bartenders in Truckee! We love the atmosphere at Mellow Fellow and the variety of beers but we go because of the excellent service! Thank you Bobby for making our experience at Mellow Fellow awesome, we’ll be back soon.

40 beers on tap! (I considered ending my review here; but thought I should add a few more details). Mellow Fellow was a perfect spot for our small, intrepid group to hang out for a work-hooky, après-ski afternoon after hitting Alpine Meadows. The vibe was laid-back and local, the parking was a cinch, and the aforementioned beer list was long and varied. I especially appreciated the bartender’s(owner’s?) knowledge of his wares. He was able to describe the flavors, nuances and ABV of nearly every beer question we threw his way.(We are a curious lot). My only nit: they were very light on porters. And it was Winter. The Unilocal biz category is a bit off. This was not a gastropub by any means. It was a bar with small bites and finger food.(I will attempt my usual Unilocal fix and see what happens.) And where gastropubs are typically higher-end on both the food and décor spectrum, this place was really more of a dive bar with great beer taste. All in all, we passed a pleasant hour here, ordering a variety of chopped sausages and a few brews each. I had a local IPA and a fantastic, refreshing sour beer. I’d easily make this a regular spot if I was closer. Perhaps another hooky ski Monday is in order.

Okay, here I go. So I have disliked this place for a long time, along with many of my friends but sometimes someone I know want to meet here for a drink. Finally, the other night became the last time ever. The Beer. They generally have nothing sessionable on tap. No pils, no lagers, very few pale ales. If you are REALLY into IPA’s then this may be your place. Not only that but the beer board does not tell you what kind of type of beer it is, just the name of the beer. No abv, type or specific gravity is given. As a person who loves craft beer this is important information as I may not want a 9% beer. There is a reason most craft beer bars give this info. The reason I have been told for this is the owners want you to talk to the bartenders about the beer. The bartenders. Well even if they wanted to tell you about the beer they have, if the place is at all busy getting a beer takes a painfully long time. They often acted annoyed or snotty when asked questions, as if I should know what is a triple IPA and what is the newest hipster sour to order. Getting a beer becomes even more difficult should the bartender happen to have a friend in the bar to talk to. The head bartender is the worst at this. He is way cooler in his 20’s than I could ever be. Who knows maybe my pants are not skinny enough to warrant serving. The LAST and FINAL time I went in there the other night the bartender only took orders standing by the register and people had to line up to get a beer. He ignored the entire bar over by the front windows. It was not even very busy.

Very nice selection of beers with a knowledgable bartender. Very dog friendly, as in someone’s dog curled up under my bar stool and went to sleep. Had to be careful getting up. Mostly docile older dogs not sure how mine would do.

We came here at sort of an off hour to eat but it seemed like they were out of almost everything and the girl who was cooking the food dumped the food on our table like she was dropping a dirty diaper into the garbage can. She didn’t say what the food was so our order got mixed up, unfortunately. And it was super super overpriced. I ordered 2 sausages, a sandwich, a beer and some hummus and it was about $ 50. The mac and cheese was cold… But good beers and the guy behind the bar was nice.

I’m a regular here. I always find a beer I like. I’m a hop head so its easy to choose. The bartenders really know their stuff. Just tell them what you enjoy drinking and they can match you up with something you’ll like. I’ve even seen them making homemade blends for customers.

All pub, no gastro. Allow me to explain… Post skiing on a powder day, running a 3k calorie deficit(thanks myfitnesspal), I literally considered eating the dog treat in my car on the way over. Roll in, late afternoon, find a seat. Place has a well-curated and extensive beer menu. Bartender is a relaxed trucker hat bro with a lot of beer knowledge. Order a beer, sit down, peruse the menu. Stumble upon the«Pliny the hunger» described as a pressed sandwich with Gyros and tzatziki sauce. Great name, so I order it. 40 minutes later out comes some toasted focaccia bread with… Burnt roast beef and cream cheese!!! The ingredients bore no resemblance to their menu description. Maybe it’s called«the hunger» because you leave hungry since the thing was inedible. Hang on, I have a second joke: maybe it’s called«the hunger» because it takes 40 minutes to arrive. Seriously, I could have jacked this thing together(not that I would want to) in 40 seconds(plus 4 minutes of toasting). After leaving we stopped at a gas station and got some beef jerky and kettle chips, they were delicious. The highs: the beer The lows: the food The bottom line: hit the gas station for food before you arrive.

Gastro Pub /Dive Bar — visited a more«famous» as seen on food network place and has an awful experience. So we came here. The bar tender couldn’t do enough to make us happy. Great beer selection and solid bar food.

Beer on tap, check. Fooseball table, check. Fooseball player repaired with fork, double check. Good bar food, check. I like this place. In all seriousness, great beer on tap, and a huge selection for any palate. I would definitely stop in here again for a pint and a competitive game of fooseball.

Beer geek alert! This is the place for you. Huge selection of top shelf craft beers. Cool spot to hangout too. Kid and dog friendly. Small selection of food, but very tasty. I wish they would print the beer list with a short description of beer(Brewer, style, ABV, etc…). They claim each bartender knows the specifics of each beer. While I have found them to be fairly knowledgeable about the beers, I find it difficult to keep their attention when it’s busy. The beer list is pretty extensive and only found on one wall. For us true beer geeks, let us have some printed material to obsess over!

I love this place! It’s our go to for truckee weekend getaways. They always have at least two ciders on tap and the best part is that they’re super dog friendly! Our golden is always allowed inside. They also have board games available so get comfortable and stay all day!

This review is for a Monday night around 7 o’clock AKA trivia witching hour. My buddy and I, both competitive individuals, made the drive to Truckee to experience this night we’ve read in previous reviews. Upon entering, we immediately began gathering our proper trivia night tools; a $ 5 brew of the pumpkin influence(get the Dogfish Punk’n this Fall), a paper, and pen. Since everyone in the bar was participating in trivia, we could sit pretty much anywhere to hear the questions being read aloud. Sat next to a man with his dog in his lap, and began round 1 out of 4. Each round contained about 10 questions, and the trivia MC included sound clues and repeated questions if asked. In the end, it felt like you were going over to game night at a buddies house with a bunch of new faces. Solid experience.

Had just finished a long bike ride and needed some liquid refreshment! Downtown Truckee was very crowded and finding parking was tough. Once we made it in, the beer selection was great! Plenty to choose from, from the basic variety to small craft brews. Got a pint and sat on the porch to enjoy. It was pretty dark inside, and during a gorgeous summer day wouldn’t be the kind of place I’d want to sit inside with. Again, I sat on the porch which was nice. But if those spots were taken, I’d probably not want to drink there. Needs some more natural light! I could see going there for some fun at nighttime though.

During our weekend getaway we decided we wanted to find a good place to get a beer and after a little Unilocal searching landed on Mellow Fellow. So impressed– 40 beers on tap and super friendly bartenders! I’ll admit I’m not a huge beer drinker so I can be pleased pretty easily by something light and what most people would probably compare to water, but my boyfriend on the other hand loves a good beer and they were able to answer all of his questions and make some pretty good recommendations. This is just a great place to go if you’re not looking for anything fancy and just want to relax with a few beers. Important to note: we had read that the establishment was dog friendly, but weren’t too sure what that meant(i.e. if that just meant the dogs can be outside on a patio of sorts) — but no, your well trained dog can come inside with you! I just thought this was awesome and really added to the laid back feel. We’ll definitely be back!

We were eager to try the brews and the sausages. Dave started with Alpine Irish Red. He liked it, said it was hoppy with a bit of bite. We ordered the sausage on a bun(a Truckee Sourdough pretzel roll). Dave chose the Chipoltle Cheddar Sausage with yellow mustard and I chose Boerwors(a slightly spicy South African flavored mixed meat sausage) with honey mustard. Mine is delicious! Dave is enjoying his too, with Deshutes Nitro.

If you’re an out-of-towner without any plans on a random night in Truckee, Mellow Fellow might be worth stopping in for a drink and to get out of the cold! There is a good sized bar with a huge selection of drinks and a few open booths where you can play board games with your compatriots. We played a pretty lively game of Fact-or-Crap while an open mic night was going on and it got pretty loud even though the place wasn’t crowded. Overall, a cool place to kick back before you hit the slopes the next day!
