I have been coming here for many years and I am sad to say that they will be closing… For good. Recent hikes in the rent and a drop in sales has forced them to close. Just over the Silver Spring line and into the District you could find your more than average Asian carryout shop. «More than average» carryout shop? Yes. In addition to the everyday run of the mill Lo Meins, Mei Funs, General What’s his name chicken, Curried this and random fried(insert process seafood item here) subs and pizza… Pizza??? Yes Pizza!(I got excited but I never had the pizza) you would find southern American comfort food. Chicken was always a good choice! Baked, fried, jerked and curried! Always moist and tender. Korean roasted beef short ribs were a favorite but not offered everyday as was the case with the fried or smothered pork chops. I am the biggest fan of pork in the world! Well… Maybe the USA… Silver Spring?(in my own mind) and this item was my most ordered but also least consistent item. What really pushed them over the top were the pig lovers dream… Braised pork intestines! If you have never had the opportunity to be anywhere in the vicinity of anyone cleaning, let alone cooking, chitterlings then you can count your blessing. Just imagine the worst thing that you have ever smelled and then put it in a pot and simmer it for about 5 hours… Take the top off and let it stink up everything that is in the room! Side dishes galore! Really! The majority of the items were canned and tasty but a few items needed work. Likes Fresh collards and fresh cabbage! The only thing missing was meat but that is understandable. Butterbeans, black eyed peas, lima beans, baked beans and corn. Often I would just mix up the lima beans and corn for succotash. No likey Mashed potatoes… How do you mess up mashed potatoes? Start with a big box of instnt potatoes and don’t add any seasoning… Candied yams… Last time I heard the word«candied» it was relating to something sweet. This was not the case here. The were not horrible but zip in the sugar and spices. Not the greatest of carryout shops in the DC area but he staff was very polite and the service was always quick! RIP Eddie’s!

At first glance, Eddie’s seemed like an odd place. They have pizza, subs, chinese food and soul food. I can’t attest to anything other than the soul food as that’s what I ordered. I was skeptical at how authentic the food would taste coming out of a chinese carry out. I was pleasantly surprised though. I had chitterlings, collard greens, candied yams and cornbread. Each of these were very good – almost as good as I make myself at home. The price was also quite reasonable; $ 10 for the entire meal. I had a lemonade ice tea as well that was very tasty(albeit incredibly sweet). The only very minor complaint I have is that the chitterlings were not seasoned as well as I’d like. They do give you hot sauce and vinegar on the side though but it didn’t quite do it. The restaurant itself may be a bit off putting to some. It’s a little rinky dink place that I can almost guarantee was previously an old McDonald’s. Besides the place not being particularly fancy, it is however very clean. I ordered my food to go but I wouldn’t have mind eating there. It’s conveniently located right on Georgia Ave just outside of downtown Silver Spring, so I definitely plan to visit Eddies again.

I actually witnessed the review of Eddie’s below. It was painful to watch. The steak and cheese won in 8 rounds by unanimous decision. When you walk into Eddie’s you wll hear immediately upon entering…“Ready to order what would you like eggroll come on please try!”
