Didn’t want to wait for a table, so we sat at the bar. This was a weekend in September, and the restaurant and outdoor area was still packed. The bartender was friendly enough, but not great on service. He forgot to enter our appetizer. Then he forgot to enter our dinner. But then he comped our drinks. We shared the mussels, which were just ok, and ate oysters, which were fresh and delicious. Can’t say I’ll be back.

Everything here was excellent — I had the ritz cracker bluefish entrée, and a cup of clam chowder. It was some of the best clam chowder I’ve had, and the bluefish was perfectly balanced with the creamed spinach and mashed potatoes. I had a taste of one of the scallop dishes, and was so tender and fresh. Service was also great. Will definitely come again!

On our way back from a weekend in Ptown stopped at Macs for sushi. Started with a delicious Bloody Mary with shrimp. So good. Then I had a dozen little necks shucked in front of me at the bar. You don’t get them any fresher. Excellent. Then I had the spicy tuna mango martini. Very good as well. Will definitely go back.

We’ve been eating at this place for the last 5 years and previously enjoyed the seafood, cocktails and the ambience of the outdoor patio. The greeters in the past had been friendly and professional. On a recent visit over the weekend, however we noted some drastic changes: the two greeters were snarky and were rude when we asked about getting a spot at the bar or even the six or so bar-adjacent high tops. The one greeter shrugged and said: «…well you can probably see what’s available better than we can…» Really? When one of the greeters led us to an oddly uncrowded indoor dining area table, the stench of stale fishiness was terrible. The management should replace or at least steam clean the smelly carpeting and maybe send these ‘new’ greeters to charm school.

Was pleasantly surprised by the food here! Even the sushi which I’ll admit had me doubting the place but it was pretty good. I had the fish tacos which was a nice portion and came with good toppings(the slaw was the best). Didn’t really like the tortillas but you can eat a deconstructed taco without the tortilla so no biggie. My friend ordered oysters and even though I’m not a fan I figured I’m in wellfleet so I have to try one and it was really good. It Def had a distinct taste to it that was unlike any other oyster I’ve tried before. Being fresh helped. The sushi was not the best I’ve ever had, but it was way better than what I was expecting.

A return engagement for us, returning to one of the best meals we had the prior year. This time around, though, very good, but not spectacular. The sangria was too much red wine, not enough fruit. For apps, the Lobster Tostada and clam chowder were just OK while the Tuna Mango Martini was really, really good(but a bit over spicy for some at the table. For dinner, the Bouillabaisse was the best of all meals — a definite recommend to try! Otherwise, both the boiled salmon and the pan seared salmon were above average but the sushi was below(and we eat A LOT of sushi). As for service, DJ was quite attentive and friendly. Delivery-wise, our apps took way too long to get, which is fine if the staff tells you before you start asking about it. So, overall, Macs ranks a solid 4, better than many, but not the best for us.

Strong fishy smell inside the restaurant. I know it’s supposed to be a fish place but it was almost too strong. In any case the food was just average. We had a sushi roll with shrimp, lobster tostadas and the mussels. None of them were good. The mussels were absolutely the worst. They literally has two drops of broth which was very bland also. The mussels were very fishy and didn’t taste fresh. We also had a cocktail pomegranate monitor which was very sweet almost like syrup. Prices were high for he type of place and bad quality food. The bar outside looks nice to have few drinks and leave.

Perfect afternoon spot with great tunes, make your own fish tacos, and deliciously tasty beers. Sat outside by the bar and the bartender’s timing was spot on every time. Ready to go back again tomorrow.

Great place, would’ve given it 5 stars but service both at the bar and then at the table was a little slow. Granted it was a busy Friday night but they should staff accordingly. Plus bartender was a little snotty. We ate outside which given an awesome night that was great. There were 6 of us and we all had different dishes, sushi etc and it was all great. Prices for being on the Cape were reasonable. Decent beer selection with some good craft beers. I had a couple of different sushi rolls and they were excellent. Pleasantly surprising to find sushi on the cape… All in all I’d go back again and would recommend you check them out.

Great find. Sushi was excellent. We loved the lazy lobster & fish tacos as well. The boys got burgers and they really liked them. Nice wine list with reasonable prices Cool casual atmosphere

Oysters great of course 1199 for 6. Get them to go and head to the end of the docks to a bench. Shucked perfectly.

There’s nothing better than enjoying raw Wellfleet oysters on the half shell than in Wellfleet, MA itself. These were the freshest, tastiest ones I’ve ever had! In addition to our oysters i washed them drown with a well made gin martini and my girlfriend had a couple glasses of tasty prosecco. Our waitress Chelsea confessed it was only her second day waitressing but she did a wonderful job nonetheless. I would’ve given Mac’s Shack five stars but while the place was clean and classy, there was absolutely no scenery from the outdoor dining area other than the parking lot.

I was on the look out for some good clam chowder while I was on The Cape. Websites and locals both raved about Mac Shack, so we decided to give it a try. Well it was milky, scant amounts of potatoes and clams but tons of onions and leeks, not a lot of flavor going on. It was disappointing. People rave about their sushi and the lines to get in will be out the door waiting an hour for a table in the evening. It seems very trendy. The drinks we got were good The Blueberry Lemonade and The Great White, but nothing to rave about for the 9 – 12 $ prices. Staff was adequate, nothing special, it was lunch time and it wasn’t crowded. Not sure if I’d go back, there isn’t a lot of sushi on The Cape so maybe if I was craving sushi.

The outdoor raw bar here is a quintessential cape cod experience! freshly shucked oysters in an airy communal hangout Wellfleet oysters are some of the best in the world and this is THE spot to have them in Wellfleet a great wine list to complement some oysters fresh from the ocean… yum

Eh. This place seemed like it wanted to be so cool. I didn’t hate it but it was very blah. Our server looked like he wanted to be anywhere but here. I ordered a Paloma and my fiancé ordered a glass of Rose. The wine came out and then my drink came out when we were halfway done with the dozen oysters. I HATETHAT! I am on vacay, I want a drink and if my companion orders a drink too — please bring them out together! We also got some salmon sashimi, which was good. We didn’t feel like hanging around for lunch because we felt like we were not good enough for this place and I felt like the server just couldn’t deal with us. We are nice people, we tip well, I don’t know what happened. I noticed the two ladies next to me seemed annoyed with him too. They had to keep asking about where their chowder was, where the ice was for their drink(it was quite hot out and they were elderly and I felt bad for them). We didn’t return because we found much better places to go for what we needed. Meh.

Stopped here for a quick snack on our way to Provincetown, at the Shack. Ordered ½ dozen Wellfleet Oysters and ate by the beach. The oysters were very fresh, but can’t help to notice bits of cracked shells in almost every oyster. Wish they scrubbed the oysters before opening them up! None the less, the scenery by the beach was very calming and inviting. Great place to stop and take in some fresh ocean breeze. There was no one in line, I didn’t really have any wait at all. It was probably 4pm during the weekday.

I’ve been wanting to go to Mac’s for a while now based on favorable Unilocal reviews and people I know who’ve gone. I finally got there last weekend. Based on the fact that it’s got«Shack» in the name I wasn’t expecting much. But that’s deceptive because its nicer than a shack. We sat outside on a perfect Sunday night in mid-June after no wait. I can imagine on weekends in the heart of summer the place is packed and there’s nowhere to park. I was expecting a place like Arnold’s down the road but this place is more upscale(and expensive). Wine list is ok by the bottle but a little underwhelming by the glass. I started with the Littlenecks and they were tasty if a little bigger than I normally prefer. She had the caesars salad that was also good. For my meal I had the fish tacos which were excellent. They provide the fish, tortillas and fixings(slaw, guac, pico, onion and chipotle sauce) and you build them yourself. Very good. She had broiled scallops(not the curry ones) with rice and they were also excellent. Portions were about the right size. Dessert menu consisted of two items, neither interested us so we passed. The service was solid all around. The place was pretty full but no one was really waiting when we got there. I liked the casual yet upscale feeling of the place. If you have small children you might be better off at a more kid-friendly place like Arnold’s but you wouldn’t go wrong at Mac’s either. As noted by several Unilocalers this place is not inexpensive. Dinner for two, excluding drinks and dessert but including tip was around $ 100. Is it worth it? I think so. Will I be back? Probably. But those aren’t the kind of prices you would expect at a «shack».
