This places has the MOST uncomfortable atmosphere I have ever felt at a restaurant. The owner is not assertive at all. His communication style is aggressive. At first I felt the owner was acting aggressive and superior towards our table because he disliked Latinx(yes, with an X to be inclusive to both sexes), Hawaiians, and Blacks — our table was composed of these three races. However, my husband made the observation that it seemed that it was just his personality. This is because he was transmitting his aggressive and superior vibe/behavior to most of his clients regardless of race. I will NEVER go back to this place and support an owner that disrespects and belittles his customers so openly. I rather spend my money somewhere else. If I could give half of a star in this review I would, instead of a whole star.

This place is good. Usually pretty busy during peak hours but not enough for a wait. Food comes quick. Staff looked stressed but the service was excellent! The sushi is okay. We only got vegetable and cooked sushi. They loaded the rolls up with cream cheese which wasn’t the best but it’s good sushi. We would go here again. The guy in front is super nice. All you can eat with sushi, edamame and miso soup. Yes please! Yum yum.

Worst sushi around. Too bad, it was my «go to place» I would take my crew there of 10 guys and would take my family. It has continued to get worse and worse. Today was the last straw. There was about 5 people there when we went, I ordered for me and a friend a San Francisco, Baja, Simply Sushi and an Elvis Handroll. All of it had no taste, well unless catfood is the taste you are looking for. I have been going to Yi Sushi Bistro on State in Midvale, maybe I got spoiled to them and have now realized what crap sushi tastes like. Never again, too bad, it used to be a good place.

Love their Sushi. Some of the best. Only drawback is the owners are stingy and will make you buy the rolls you don’t eat. Oh by the way they will charge you for them too. To bad it will be a long time before I go back.

For $ 15.95 during the lunch hour, this place offers sushi buffet from their menu. It’s pretty decent is you’re looking to explore the thought of trying sushi for the first time and lots of veggie rolls. My personal favorites are the Spicy Upside Down Shrimp and the Simply Tuna nigiris. For dinner, they still offer the buffet but this includes the back of the menu for $ 22.95. There’s a bigger selection but choose wisely. Most of the rolls are long rolls and if you happen to not like it, you must find room in your tummy or a place to hide it on your plate because they will charge you for wasting food. I used to come here all the time for Edgar because he’d always take care of me. But now that he doesn’t work here, the new guys are alright. It is pretty dead here for the lunch hour and I’m sitting at the bar waiting for my rolls/sushi concoctions. Maybe it’s time to find a new sushi place…

They use the same two sauces one EVERY piece of sushi which covers up any distinction between flavors. Irish roll was interesting but other than that a very«meh» assortment.

I walked in and it was really crowded and busy so it’s probably good place I do you actually get to try the sushi but I will have to go there again another time so for my review and give them four stars and it took a while for them to even try to get a seated so long that we didn’t bother they’re just really busy so far but a good place talk to you next time Tim

A buffet buddy and I swore to never step foot inside a Simply Sushi again, yet last weekend we did just that at their new location. The AYCE sushi craving was strong and we couldn’t resist. They were very busy that day and the space was packed. The first two rolls that came out showed a lot of promise of redemption. The rice to filling ratio was really nice, and the flavors were pretty good. The second round took longer than the first. The 3rd took even longer and they missed some orders. The rice on the rolls also increased. Despite the increasing rice on the sushi rolls, the items were pretty good(i like the upside down shrimp) and the service was ok too.

I moved here from California about a year ago and have been looking for a go-to sushi spot … After trying about 6 – 8 this has been the best one … Price and flavor I am very picky when it comes to raw fish due to its freshness and here in Utah is almost impossible to find fresh fish … However this guys have done it Thank you and thanks to Ben the sushi bar guy for taking care of me and my 12 sushi rolls

What the fuck just happen? It’s been a while since I felt so inclined to leave a 1 Star review. In fact I try to avoid it if I’ve had good experiences with a business in the past, but this is just… Wow! Let’s start at the beginning and work our way through the awfulness that was Simply Sushi on a Saturday night. It was packed, should be a good sign right? Wrong. It was a red flag that the possibility of shit hitting the fan was high. Like code red status. My friend went ahead to get a table, so by the time I arrived with another two of our friends, all was well and no wait for me. They sat us at an 8 person table which turned out to be unnecessary for the 4 of us and we indicated this to the 50 something grey hair authority to which he responded«That was a good choice.» (Insert evil laughter)… He obviously couldn’t tell that he was speaking to a customer that was not only judging every move he made — but was eager to chronicle the train wreck from start to finish. First rude encounter — Check. Then my friend and I wait for water. Party foul but not a deal breaker. Then we wait for food. Then we wait for acknowledgement. Tension is rising because the server doesn’t fake any kind of politeness until halfway through the meal when my famed German attitude starts to make an appearance. So we’re an hour and 40 minutes in at this point which was not awful because we were enjoying each other’s company and catching up yadda yadda. My friend’s husband is starting to get impatient and I can tell he wants to leave and the social interaction has expired… But the server is MIA… For a while… He’s been MIA for about 15 minutes… Finally a server comes to check on us and we ask for the check to which he scurries off diligently to track it down. He comes back to explain that our server has left and he has no idea what we ordered. Hmmm. He tries to be funny about it. I guess. And we make some comment about who it was that was serving us and he says«Yeah he really pulled a Dick move.» Um excuse me? I know I have tattoos and piercings(and curse like a sailor) but don’t ever talk to me or any other customer with such disrespectful language. … This is where I laughed it off and tried to explain the situation a little more to which he responds«Yeah to be honest I really don’t even care.» … Holy shit. We grab the check, awkwardly wait in line to get back up to the Conductor of this derailed train heading for a cliff — the very same that supplied the initial rude encounter. I briefly go to explain that we need separate checks and he puts his hand up to stop me and says(direct quote/word for word): «I’m smart enough to figure it out, how much do you want to pay» with the sourest face I’ve been given in a long time. He grabbed my card, ran through the machine, violently threw it back down with a pen for me to sign. How repugnant. Our first server burst out moments later with a scowl and glanced at us with anything but fondness. I can’t conjure any reason for this experience and I won’t even tell you if the food was good or not. I just won’t lie and say it was bad. But I should tell you that this place is not worth the time of day. Don’t spend your money here. There’s far better places in SLC for sushi, and none of them will treat you this way. The fact that this happened is proof that this restaurant should not be in business. Customers slip through the cracks, I get it. But to have every member of your staff be down right mean including yourself? Don’t be a business owner, customer service is obviously not for you.

This place is great because they have unlimited sushi. But their rice proportions are huge and they demand that you actually eat the rice and then they’ll bring you more. If you just want to be a fatass and gorge, this will do. But if you’re going to be sushi connoisseur and want quality, stay away

I love this restaurant. I was never much of a sushi fan, came here and I love it! I still don’t eat the raw fish stuff, but they are amazing, and have an all you can eat option. We don’t eat enough to get the all you can eat, but 3 rolls does the 2 of us just fine :) LOVE the baja, San Francisco, and the Coconut. SOWONDERFUL! Sat at the bar last time and the rolls were fast and the cooked stuff was warm! Awesome service! Just know, if you do the all you can eat and don’t think you have eaten enough to justify the all you can eat, let the server know to keep track of the rolls so you can pay ala carte. Or if you plan on ala carte, and eat way more than the all you can eat price, they can change that too! But, be upfront about not knowing if you will eat enough so they will keep track or they won’t be happy trying to figure it out for you. And don’t forget to tip :)

I freaking love this place. The haters can hate. I mean you are in Utah and the Sushi that gets here somehow is not going to be fresh no matter what 5 star restaurant you go to. You go here for the food, cheap all you can eat sushi(not at all bad) and the customer service. We have never had a bad day at Simply Sushi, it has always been fun and we will keep coming back as long as I am living in the valley. The best rolls would have to be Blossom Crunch, Coconut Shrimp, Fire Cracker, Godzilla, and the Yard sale. I also suggest ordering Nigri here especially the Spicy Upside Down Shrimp which is quite delicious.

I don’t know how this place has less than 5 stars! They were so and fast. Best sushi we have had so far. Can’t wait to to come back. Our serve brad was so helpful! Loved everything. Will def do the all you can eat sushi next time!

They get 4 stars because: They have a huge selection. Creative rolls. Nice & Fast service. willing to do dinner rolls during lunch time, as long as we pay for the dinner instead of the lunch buffet. One to try for sure is their seared tuna, upside down shrimp, and the mountain roll, among others.

For the only all-you-can-eat(AYCE) sushi restaurant in Salt Lake city, this does the job. The service is quick and nice. The fish is decent. I got a few orders of hamachi and it melted in my mouth which is exactly how it should be. No Unagi, terribly disappointed at that. The rice was no good. We ordered the simply sushi roll and the rice tasted like they made it yesterday and put it in the fridge overnight. It was too cold and hard to the point my teeth were almost hurting. The other rolls were okay. Nothing really stood out to be notable besides the hamachi nigiri. Same rice was used except in the Nigiri; it was as if they thawed it out a few minutes to be less obvious on your teeth when chewing. 3 stars for me. I wasn’t expecting a lot but at least their chefs weren’t white, which is a good indication that its probably better than other places as far as food standards go.

It’s been several months since my last visit. A few new items on the menu and newer faces to the employees and the sushi is still great. I had a good meal and received good service despite the friday evening rush. I still stand by my 4 stars and really enjoy this place.

Haven’t been here in like 6 months. We got there 5 minutes after they were opened. They filled up quickly and were down a chef. So only 2 sushi chefs for the whole place. We were promptly seated at the bar. We waited a good 25 minutes or so until they were ready to take our order. The sushi chef was preparing an order for a large table. They brought us out some Miso soup that was quite delicious. I ordered the Simply Sushi Long Roll(which had Crystal Shrimp, Cooked Scallops, Crab & Sweet Sauce). It was pretty decent. Then I ordered the Lotus Long Roll star (Snapper, Red Pepper, Cusabi Sauce & Crunchy Onions). That sauce tasted like pure mayo and didn’t help that one out much. Also had the Colorado Roll star (Tuna, Crab, Avocado & White Sauce) wasn’t too shabby. I was very impressed with the Yellowtail /Hamachi though. Big thick cut slices on my rice. I should have taken some pictures. The Salmon /Sake wasn’t so great but the Hamachi made up for it in every way. If it wasn’t for the long wait to get fed I would have given this place 4 stars. Pleasantly surprised how much better this place has gotten since I first went in. Great service, always checking up on us making sure our waters were full and removing unused plates. Will definitely come back for more.

Looking at the review trend of this place, it looks like they managed to clean themselves up since the bad raves from 2011. They have a decent size place, a few large parties can fit in this place, and 1 – 2 parties can sit at the bar area. They are in the same strip mall complex with a Smith’s. The AYCE option is obvious the way to go, price stays relatively the same as other AYCE sushi joint in town at 22.95 per person for dinner. If you are looking for the best bang for the buck, Hand Rolls are the way to go here. I am usually a tuna person, but their Spicy Salmon Hand Roll was spicier than the tuna one, which I found that one better. Rainbow Hand Roll was another favorite, the whole thing pretty much stuffed with fish. Their Nigiri was good for AYCE quality, although fish was a thin slice compare to regular sushi joints, they do not force you to eat a large rice ball with it, as the rice also reduced proportionally with the fish. Some of the favorites were Tuna, Yellowtail, and Upside Down Shrimp. The long rolls were not too impressive, I only found myself enjoying the Fire Cracker Roll and Scallop Volcano Roll. Miso was a bit skimpy with just tofu and miso, did not find any kombu in it. The service was good though, the chef made us a few off menu rolls, and all of them were excellent. I am not sure if they had done similar changes to the downtown location as well, but this particular location Simply Sushi just became my favorite AYCE sushi joint in the Salt Lake area. Great place to hang out with friends and stuff your faces full of sushi.

Have been here two times and both times I left ridiculously full and satisfied. Love the spicy upside down shrimp. Simply tuna, yellowtail, and salmon nigiri are all delicious and must-haves if you go. The salmon literally melts in your mouth. Godzilla tempura, yard sale, and fire cracker rolls are some of my favorites. My only complaint– sometimes there is a little tooooo much rice on the rolls. Takes away from the deliciousness of the fish. Can’t wait to go back again and experience yet another sushi coma.
