Had high hopes for this restaurant, but it was not to be. Walking in I noticed a sign stating margaritas on special. Asked the hostess if that was still valid and she said, «Yes.» Asked my waiter and he said, «No, it ended nine minutes ago.» So right off the bat not a great impression. Tuna appetizer was nicely seared and pink on the inside, one star for that. OMG nachos just ok and for the price of $ 12 I would have expected something amazing. I had fried chicken chimichangas. The beans were very salty and the rice was bland. My children had the El Vaquero T-Bone. At $ 17 it was the thinnest t-bone I’ve ever seen. I ordered them medium-rare and there was not a hint of pink but arrived well done. The taste was good though and the potatoes that came on the side were the best part of the meal, another star for those. Finally, I ordered the fried ice cream for the three of us to share. One bite and we were all disgusted. All we tasted was oil. I sent it back and did not order a different dessert. The booth we sat in was huge. It was difficult to reach the table. The seat on my side of the booth was not attached properly and I nearly landed on the floor twice while trying to get close to the table. The waiter kept us in ice water and chips well enough. The third star is for the fact that my kids were fairly happy with the meal. We had tons of leftovers for lunch the next day. Plenty of other Mexican places to try in Williamsburg so we won’t be going back.

Generous portions, and the food is pretty good! Staff is extremely friendly. Despite busy hours, they really try their best to serve you well. I personally love their guacamole bar that comes to your table and makes delicious, large bowls of guacamole in front of you. During busy hours, food might take a while. The nacho chips are delicious to munch on while you wait with the salsa and guacamole, but remember not to stuff yourself before your food even arrives! Drinks are okay. My friend’s alcoholic margarita tasted very much like a virgin – we had to ask the waiter if we got the right one. Apparently, we did. Another friend’s Cabernet Sauvignon tasted more like a sweet Merlot. Of the food we ordered, the mixed fajitas were the best in my opinion. I had an enchilada, which was average. Chicken and rice, quesadillas and chimichangas were yummy. They weren’t as good as the Mexican food I’ve had in California. Still, not bad. Overall, good price for good food. Good experience here!

Great food, great service, and great drinks, it’s definitely worth stopping by this restaurant at some point. I recommend the dish called«Fajitas for 2» it’s worth every cent and you will leave stuffed.

Nice place. Employees were friendly but the food was just OK. The salsa tasted fresh but was not spicy at all. Rice and burrito had TONS of onions.

The veggie fajitas were perfectly grilled and tasted amazing. The concensus was the food was great! Rating would be higher but the server was not good. Had to go to bar to order my wine and to get the lemon I asked for 3 times. When leaving the hostess’ excuse was«we’re really busy». Only saving grace was the food.

As always the food was great. Can’t beat it for the price. Service is usually outstanding with the exception of one guy(Isias ?). He’s more interested in what’s on TV then ensuring the patrons are taken care of. Every time my wife, friends and I end up with him as a waiter he is consistently awful.

Some advice If you order the table side guacamole, don’t expect your main meal anytime soon. Service could be more prompt

It was about 6 o’clock on Monday night. Walked in, wasn’t even greeted. The hostess stood there like she didn’t want to do any work. Right then and there I knew I wasn’t going to like it. We sat down our waitress came over and greeted us. She was pleasant but didn’t really say much. The menu seemed to have a lot of the same items with different ingredients so not much to choose from. Maybe I’m used to the Mexican restaurants back at home. I ordered some kind of kabob with steak, peppers, onions, hot peppers served over rice. I asked for it to be medium, it came out well done. My husband ordered a very bland chicken enchilada that actually sounded really good. But Im glad I didn’t order anything with chicken in it because come to find it he had food poisoning 3 hours later. I will never go here again since our experience was not good.

This goes to show you that every Plaza Azteca is NOT the same! The Holland Road location in Virginia Beach is TERRIBLE! I wasn’t too hot on going here because of my experiences with their other location, especially with the large variety of restaurants in the area. But I caved in and went in with the fam. Why did I buck against this place? I ordered the beef chimichunga lunch special and was surprised by the taste and quality. I was a little disappointed that I had to pay extra for guacamole, but was cool with the overall presentation, quickness and preparation of the food. It was fresh and on point. What knocked it down a notch was the smell of the cleaning supplies nearby. It was nauseating, but thank God it was mostly gone before we got the food. I don’t understand why we are always seated so close to the restrooms or kitchen when we visit Mexican restaurants. I’m beginning to feel some type of way by this. Next time I’m gonna need to be in the middle of the restaurant. Just sayin’!

The scenery is great. Kinda busy. First Mexican restaurant I had a buzzer for in awhile. Ordered the table side guacamole and it was amazing. Prices are resonable. Clean friendly environment. Fancy menus and pleasant wait staff. Beer kinda pricey 5.75 for a medium bud light draft.

Excellent and fast service. Great, comfy environment. Free chips(which were warm!) and salsa. I got the chicken fajita salad, which was huge and super yummy. My boyfriend got one of their enchilada dishes(two beef, one chicken) and enjoyed it. We left with stuffed tummies and a very satisfied experience.

Most Mex restaurants taste all the same. This one is no different. It’s clean and busy in here. We come cuz location and their habanero sauce if they have it and it’s usually not available. Sure enough today they do not have the hot sauce.

First the good: Server was friendly and the margaritas were top notch if not top shelf. Now the bad: The chicken in my spinach enchilada was bland(it actually tasted boiled) and the tortilla tasted like wet cardboard. My wife had the chicken and cheese quesadilla, the cheese was like old velveeta. As reviewers stated before the service was slow(only two other tables were there, yet they had at least six other servers). The verdict: stick with locally owned Mexican restaurants, you will get better food at a better price.

My family and I had dinner here over the holidays while I was visiting from New York. We were a party of 7 adults and 1 child and we made a reservation in advance. We were glad we had as there were lots of large holiday parties that night and we would have waited quite a while to be seated if we had not had a reservation. We were excited to try the table-side guacamole, but we very surprised and disappointed to learn that the«guacamole guy» was not working that night… Huh? You’ve only got one guy on staff that can make table-side guacamole? Train someone else, I promise, it’ll be good for business. Service was relatively slow, we waited awhile before anyone approached the table. Our server was very nice, but did seem overwhelmed throughout the night. We ordered margaritas and mine came with salt, despite asking for no salt. Slightly annoying. The food was not great. I ordered the shrimp tacos and my shrimp were undercooked and under-seasoned. Everyone else seemed to think their dishes were fine and my husband liked the enchiladas suizas. Dinner was reasonably priced, but I won’t be back.

Delicious! I have eaten at multiple Mexican restaurants in Williamsburg and Plaza probably has the best quality food. It is always worth the wait!

Margaritas were great! Table side guacamole is tasty! Chips were good. Prices are reasonable as well. My first drink of choice was a mojito and it tasted like Sprite with lime so I was a bit disappointed with that. I also order the chicken quesadilla and while the portion was huge, there was a lot of juice coming from the chicken making the tortilla very soggy. I picked out the chicken, which was pretty good and didn’t eat anything else. Service was ok. Our guy was quick to great us, get us chips and salsa, and then take our drink order. Drinks took a bit of time and then it took him awhile to bring us our check. All in all, it’s a fine place to go and I’d probably go back because their drinks were so damn good!

I wish I could give this place Zero Stars. I’m up writing a review at 4am because of a stomach ache after leaving this place. My whole family came home with stomach aches… We visited for the first time on a Saturday night around 8pm. There was no line and we still were told to wait 10−15mins? There were plenty on tables open, so I was a little put off by that. Afterwords, the food took about 45 mins to come out which I think is a bit long for tacos and burritos. I would rate the food a 4 and the margaritas a 2! The frozen drinks tasted pre-made and I had a terrible headache when I came home and I only had one! They also did not listen when my husband ordered No Onions with his burrito(he hates onions). The food is pricey and have no taste. Just Yuck! Very disappointed because I really love Mexican food but this really put me off to Mexican food for a very long time. Thanks a lot! :((

I’ve been here three separate times now. The prices are very reasonable, with most entrees coming in at under $ 10. Much of the food is just unadventurous, with a single flavor and texture dominating the entirety of a meal. Who wants to eat a burrito with just mashed potatoes inside, or only plain beef? However, there are those items on the menu that have a variety of flavors and ingredients; these items always impress me. I actually recommend going vegetarian while here, as these items(in my experience) skew towards using a wider palette. The service was very slow one of the times I was there, and I can’t remember how it was the other two. Overall, be smart about what you order and you can have a great experience.

This is a really great Mexican restaurant. The pork. The cheese. The handmade salsa. All were amazing. You quickly see that this place takes pride in its ingredients and preparation. Definitely coming back.

I dont eat mexican food much but the food here is really good here in my opinion. The wait was about 20mins but I didn’t mind because it was expected and worth it for the food. The restaurant looked pretty nice and the servers were friendly. I had the cheese dip for my appetizer and it was pretty good. Then I got combination #1 and shared with my little sister. I was afraid she wouldn’t like it but she loved it and even asked to come back another time. I will definately be coming back next time I’m in the area.
