Stopped by this location today and found the doors locked, went across the street to Sam’s to get some gas, the attendant informed me that they were abruptly shut down yesterday by the Health Code Department-I heard other Hometown Locations have closed recently due to financial reasons, so I’m not sure if this is permanent or a temporary closure. Keep this in mind when choosing to go there to eat! Call ahead or go elsewhere! I won’t be returning, um giving it 1 star because they could’ve at least put a notice on the door or something to inform any potential diners. So long! Verified today: this location is PERMANENTLYCLOSED.

Totally not worth the money. It was almost 35 dollars for my husband and I to have dinner with our 2 year old. The food was fresh and hot… but it wasnt good at all. It was cheap and thrown together… there was very few things i tried that I liked. We don’t plan on going back. Which sucks because we love a good buffet with a picky toddler. Head somewhere else. You’ll only be disappointed.

While going through my third plate I decided that was enough food for the night. The foods have their ups and downs, but I could not get over how murky the water tastes. It seemed that everything that had local water in it tasted too earthy and far from fresh. Before I left, Shrek walked in front of me. He noticed my unsatisfied look and asked what was wrong. I told him about the water, and he sighed and sat me down back at my table. He told me that long ago his swamp house rested exactly where this restaurant stands. Then the inevitable waves of capitalism and industrialization invaded and he had no choice but sell his property and be a part time runner of the hometown buffet resturant. He explained that the murky taste of the water and the poor qualities of the food were the legacy of his swamp, and that I should remember that as I write my review. I have acknowledged this and I honestly could not care less. If the water has poor taste, so does the resturant, and therefore deserves a bitter review.

The staff was friendly, but the food tonight was terrible. I have been here before, but it’s never been this bad. The food wasn’t hot. I had a slice of ham, it was cold and dry. The iced tea wasn’t cold, most of the food was cold and flavorless. My daughter had fried rice, and usually she will eat most anything. She took a bite and said it was gross. I tried it, and yes, it was gross. The fried chicken was barely warm, and it was warmer than almost anything else I tried. For the money I paid, I could have gone to a regular restaurant and had better food without having to get it myself. I am extremely disappointed, because Hometown is usually my daughter’s favorite and she was excited to go there tonight.

Went to eat breakfast on Sunday. Needless to say it was more of a buffer for the cockroaches! There were two cockroaches on the floor next to the entrance to the kitchen. Knowing that these Devils are a problem everywhere… we complained then went to get our plates. On my husbands plate there were little black pieces of something… he told the server it was sorry and gave it to her. He went back and grabbed another plate(after many had picked before him) and the plate he got had a full grown squished dead cockroach. We freaked out. Immediately went up front with the SECOND plate and asked for our money back. The«acting» manager, Darin, seemed angry and bothered by us and told us cockroaches«are a fact of life». My husband was livid. He told this guy to refund our money immediately or he would stand on the nearest seat and announce what we had just experienced. Disgusted!

Horrible. Horrible food, mediocre service. We ended up driving to Thunder Valley casino the following week and had a 100% better experience at their buffet, for about the same price. Never again.

Pretty good buffet. Not very cheap, so keep an eye out for coupons or look online for them. Staff has always been cheerful and efficient. Biggest complaint is people letting their kids serve themselves — sometimes with their hands, and parents are nowhere to be seen.

I have never been treated so good and the food is very tasteful. The little waitress that works back section with dark hair is fantastic. Wish I could remember her name. Won’t go any place else for family get togethers since my family is so large hah. Won’t sit anyplace else either…

I don’t eat this kind of stuff, but I thought I’d give it a chance. Hubby LOVES this place, so naturally this is where end up one night after I almost pass out from hunger in the parking lot of Wal-Mart. The lady at the front was nice, but to me, the food looked really unappetizing. I started off with a plate of steamed broccoli, which was actually really good. Crisp and fresh, not mushy at all. I then tried some salmon, which was overcooked just the way I like it(seriously). I tried one popcorn shrimp, and it was greasy and mealy. Yuck. So two out of three, on to dessert… this warranted one star of its own. The rice crispy treat was probably the best I’ve ever had. Omg. Hubby didn’t like his steak, but loved his carrot cake. So, verdict: the steamed and raw veggies were pretty good, meat and seafood under and overcooked respectively, but the dessert was the real star of the show. Not worth 30 dollars though…

I’m very disappointed with the staff at the Yuba city branch. The front clerk was super nice but everyone else were talking about very inappropriate stuff when I was getting food for my son then we were never seen once time. Normally they greet you put their name on the paper but nothing. Never came and got our plates and it was my bday and my mom told them twice it was and asked me what type of cake I wanted and never showed up so NOTIP. Food was good tho

The food looked tasty BEFORE trying it. I’m not picky at all when it comes to food, but out of maybe 8 yummy-looking entrees which I tried I only liked the mashed potatoes and gravy. The chicken was overcooked and cold, the meatloaf tasted like dry hamburger with ketchup on top, the raviolis just didn’t quite have it. I think they were skimping on quality of ingredients, but the presentation was really nice. I thought it was overpriced for the value I got. The homemade banana pudding was really good though, and the broccoli salad wasn’t bad and the Mac n Cheese was okay. The service was good.

I’m not a fan of buffets as I tend to eat too much. Food here is okay, not great. I like the fried chicken when it is fresh. Coffee is really good. The salad bar is fresh. They just added a Mongolian Wok and the city(gotta love idiotic city politics) wouldn’t let them use flame cooking. The city made them use induction cooking which just doesn’t work on a Wok so the food isn’t really cooked right. Food here must be frozen and then heated for serving. They put out a new tray of steamed broccoli but when I bit into them, they were still frozen. :-(The taco bar needs a new recipe for the taco meat but it’s edible. For a quick meal this place is okay but I don’t take family here when they come to visit. Update 1÷30÷2015 — Okay downgraded from 3 stars to 1 star. Last time I went here I couldn’t find the condiments Catsup/Mustard etc. Now for as long as we’ve been going here, they have always been at the table. Not there now. The hostess told me it was over by the taco and salad bar. Scratching my head I am thinking, that is a stupid place to put it but I looked anyway. No where to be found and I scanned everything by the salad and taco bar. Then later I noticed over by the deserts in the back, a box full of ketchup and mustard packets. Now we just paid almost $ 18 for lunch and you give me Ketchup packets out of a box??? Really? I expect that at a fast food joint but not at a buffet restaurant. Never will I go here again. HomeTown is off my to go to list.

Well here we go again. I always have to try out hometown where ever I am. This one is no different than any other one I’ve ever been to. Some of the dishes are different but alas, the cooks all come from the same school. Where that is I have no idea. Some day I will find the right place for me to dine with only good, happy memories. Goodby hometown buffet.

Went for lunch and was outraged by the price(especially the $ 2 charge per drink). the salad bar was dirty and needed restocking. The hot food was not hot at all and the fried chicken was over cooked and tasted like soap. I would not eat here again.

This first time my husband and I went was on a Sunday evening and the food was pretty much amazing. Everything was fresh and tasted delicous. There was also a variety of foods to choose from. Our second visit was for dinner some time during the week and we were really disappointed. The variety of food was about zilch and what they did have didn’t taste the greatest. So my advice is to go on the weekends. The food seems to be better then!

always found the food to be good hot and fresh it’s great for the kids who have no patience to wait for food to be ordered and served it’s also a good deal on their new take out when we have out of town company we always take them here and they always rave about it afterward and unlike the previous comment everyone in there is not morbidly obese there a lot of old people too ;)

Not bad. The food was good and fresh. The dining and serving areas were clean. The only critique was that the carved beef was usually overdone and the soft ice cream was watery.
