The hubby and I went here for dinner two weeks ago and the food and service was amazing. We did their dinner for two special and ended up getting the prime rib and joes steak. I usually order my steaks medium to ensure I get the steak medium well but at joes there was no need to. The steak and the prime rib was cooked perfectly and seasoned very well. Our server was on top of everything. Although she did seem shocked when I said thank you. Apparently people have forgot there manners, but that’s a story for another day. Needless to say I will return soon. Oh their spinach artichoke dip was good as well and their cheesecake was also good. If you like a cheesecake with a thick crust try theirs.

How come my ribeye doesn’t look like everyone else’s? After waiting to have it brought back because they originally gave me some sort of other steak… and then the manager proceeded to tell me that ribeyes don’t have any filet on them. But all the other pictures of them do?! All the ones I’ve ever bought in the stores do? And my husband eating his right next to me does have the small classic strip of filet on it. Well after everyone was done eating and I was still sitting here dinnerless the manager personally boxed my meal up that she charged me for still.

The girlfriend and I come here very often. By far one of our favorite restaurants to have lunch or dinner at. You can never go wrong with the Ponderosa; very juicy, great taste and texture.

This place sucks. Me and my boyfriend ordered the joes steak. It was so dry and was not of good quality, then ordered the iron skillet apple pie… Not great to be honest. They side«vegetable rice pilaf» they gave me rice with like yesterday’s left over chow mein? Gross. The bread was the only thing decent out of the 70 $ dinner.

You would think that one of the few benefits of living in the Central Valley would be access to great steak houses, however I have yet to find one in Bakersfield. Don’t get me wrong Tahoe Joes is a solid option(slightly above average food, standard chain service), but it’s far from the gourmet«Prime» steakhouses ubiquitously found throughout LA and many other major cities and is more on the level of an Outback, with about 30% higher prices. This was our third time here and my best advice would be that if there is an hour+ wait(pretty standard on the weekend) and no open seating at the bar I would save the hassle and eat at one of the 10 other restaurants in the center. You’ll save money and time, and and won’t miss anything special.

Came here for dinner one evening while in Bakersfield on business. I ordered the roasted chicken with mashed potatoes and green beans plus a starter salad. The salad was crisp and fresh while the rolls they serve you were hot and absolutely delicious. Unfortunately, my roasted chicken left a lot to be desired. First, it’s a dry rub so not your typical herb roasted chicken. Next, it was really dry which is always the experience killer for chicken. The mashed potatoes were dense and the green beans way over cooked and soggy. I’m sure I probably ordered the wrong thing as there were items I could see at other tables that looked absolutely delicious. Perhaps if I’m ever back in the area, I’ll give it another shot.

It was a Very disappointing dinner. I recommend that you don’t come on a fundraiser night. I ordered an almond crusted calamari appetizer. It wasn’t as good as in the past. It was cold. Everything was cold-bread rolls, calamari, rib eye, and baked potato. The baby green salad with champagne dressing on the side was the best part of the meal. I sent back my 14 oz rib eye steak because it was cold. They brought me a new, and it was no different – cold. The waitress was considerate(not the best) because she did approach her manager and shared my situation. I did not initiate the request. The wait was 35 minutes. Once again it was a fundraiser night and maybe … Last week the same exact meal was delicious. Oops, I forgot to mention– my margarita on the rocks was good.

Had a wonderful steak dinner at Tahoe Joe’s in Bakersfield, CA. Been going here for years and it’s still as delicious as it was, the first time I went. My all-time favorites are, the Rail Road Camp Shrimp, Virginia City Filet Mignon and the Mashed Potatoes. The steak is so flavorful and tender, that you can cut it with a fork, even though I order mine, well done. The food and atmosphere are amazing. So much so, that I live over an hour away and I don’t mind the drive at all. I would highly recommend Tahoe Joe’s to anyone and have for years!

I absolutely love Tahoe Joe’s! The ribs are cooked until the meat falls off the bone and the sauce is just right. We had cocktails — recommend the Girls Night Martini. Appetizers we always get Bravehearts(artichoke hearts) and Mushroom Skillet ~ both are off menu but the will make them for you if you ask. Dinner of course we’re ribs and the green beans. We were greeted immediately and the service was super quick and meal spot on.

Although Tahoe Joes has been around for a while the food is mostly good. On occasion they botch something that you would expect. I’ve had dinners here that are fantastic but it often feels anything before dinner is lacking in the same care. Today I had the Black and Blue burger added bacon and the bacon they added was dry and tasteless. The French Dip sandwich my fiancé had was inedible, tough, weak, and flavorless beef, in a steak house. Shame. In short go for dinner be happy but skip lunch.

We’ve been coming to Tahoe Joes for many years and I used to really champ and recommend Tahoe Joes to all our family and friends, but over the past few months it seems the food quality and service is not as good as it consistently used to be. Not sure why the change, but its noticeable. For example tonight we decided to get take out and once home I found that my favorite Railroad Camp Shrimp salad wasn’t up to par with what it used to be Shrimp seemed kinda stale like it made earlier today) and the wife did not get dressing for her salad. They werent so crowded that they should have rushed. Is too bad. Was a great place to grab a great slab of meat, but at least for us long timers to Tahoe Joes, in our opinion not so much now.

Good steakhouse for a chain. Awesome happy hour! Try their railroad camp shrimp and fish tacos– amazing! Those with a big beer will fill you up for sure

Went here to eat tonight. Food was alright. The soup chicken pot pie was really good! It was thick and hearty. Pretty much full from it alone. And as an added side for less than $ 3 it was pretty good. The pan seared calamari wasn’t that amazing. It was somewhat soggy and was subpar. Had the whiskey peppercorn sirloin., medium rare. Meat was a little tough but flavorful. Décor was nice. Looks like a cabin lodge in Lake tahoe, I guess thus the name. Slightly expensive. 5 adults came out to above $ 170 with tax. Staff was helpful and kind, attentive to their guests. Would definitely be back for a special occasion type dinner.

I like Tahoe Joe’s! We always go for those fundraising meals – you know the ones where it’s a simple dinner(BBQ chicken or steak) all plated to go for $ 20? Now, that’s what I call cooking! But I also love their happy hour. I’d say it’s one of the best ones in town. It is certain times throughout the week in the bar and on the patio and it runs ALLDAY on Sunday fun day! Many of their appetizers are slightly scaled down but the price is dropped too! We always get the railroad camp shrimp and nachos. But I did see that fish tacos and sliders are now on the menu too! Plus their house margarita is always a treat! Service is always good and the food is consistent. Great place to watch the game or grab some food before you head to the show!

The best meal and service yet. Joe’s was spot on last night. From the calamari appetizer to the twin rib eyes and the salmon everything was perfect. Our server Katelyn was so attentive and polite. She was a breath of fresh air. Although young she was very experienced with not only serving but the kitchen. Bravo Joe’s

All in all, pleasantly surprised. That said, this would be a 5 star review if not for a few things. Our server was sweet. the food came out timely and quickly and the food was decent overall. The atmosphere was cool and reminded me of a lodge up north. Ordered — the popular Campfire Shrimp appetizer. Presented nicely on a bed of greens but would not order this again. The shrimp were heavy, not so tempura-like as advertised and bland as heck. Joe’s Original Steak — a cross between a steak and prime rib. Not what was expected but smoked 19 hours and was tender. Mashed potatoes were not as good a choice as the value of the baked potato but were good(small portion). Green beans with bacon, good. NY Steak — cooked to order and seasoned well. Would order this over the Original. The salads were ok but served on warmer bowls from the dishwasher. What I liked is that the salads were not overdressed. Beer was cold but the Pinot Grigio wine had no taste. It was watery. I would not have sent it back but the waitress never asked how our drinks were anyways. We had to ask for the pepper grinder for our salads and meals. We were able to pack up half our meals for lunch the next day. Lastly, management should take some time just to clean up the lamps overhead of dead bugs inside. Tried to ignore it but it was distracting. Would return as the rest of the menu is interesting and the restaurant is unique.

I didn’t realize I hadn’t posted a review for Tahoe Joe’s yet! This is one of my favorite steakhouses around these parts but I love it for reasons other than steak really lol. Although their steaks aren’t bad, they aren’t the best I’ve had, but they have other stuff to make up for it. For starters, their Railroad Camp Shrimp! Oh so very yummy! Probably some of the more original flavors I’ve had with shrimp! The salad it comes with, with the peanuts and wonton strips is just as tasty with the dipping sauce poured over it. Seriously, very good and my favorite dish here! Also, their burgers are always perfectly cooked, big, and juicy! You can’t go wrong with a burger here. Their ribs are also tasty as is their AMAZING cheesecake! This cheesecake converted me from not liking cheesecake to loving it!!! With a thick graham crust and a huuuuuuge layer of cheesecake, it is wonderful and thick and creamy! It’s big enough to share and still get a great portion for yourself! Definitely try a slice of you haven’t yet! Their happy hour specials are also great! They have deals on apps starting at just $ 2.99 up to $ 4.99 and for those of you who drink, all the drinks are $ 1.00 off! Great appetizers ranging from railroad camp shrimp, nachos, wings, onion straws and many others! I’ve been to TJ’s many times for birthdays, anniversaries, or just dinner(even lunch) and it’s been consistently great! I’ve never had a meal to complain about and I’ve been with large groups as well as just with my husband. I’m not sure why some people haven’t tried Tahoe Joe’s yet but if you’re one of those, you absolutely should!

We came by for happy hour at Tahoe Joe’s. It runs until 6PM and after 9 on weekdays and all day Sunday. They have great prices on individual sized appetizers. Although, I must say the individual sides are quite large in some cases. We got two orders of the railroad can’t shrimp, because that’s one of our favorites. Each one had six or so shrimp and it was only $ 3.99 each. They were fantastic. We also got the Joe steak sliders, which came with a very tasty as you sauce. The meat was very tender and the cheese and onions were a perfect complement. And this was only $ 3.99 as well(for 2 sliders). The smothers fries($ 2.99) were large enough for 2 – 3 people. They had generous portions of cheese and bacon. We dipped them in ranch, so good. We also got the spinach and artichoke dip. It was also excellent and the green onions and diced fresh tomatoes on top were a nice touch. All in all a great experience. We got those five dishes, a coke and a large blue moon for under $ 33.

Food’s still good, but customer service ruins it. I found a very sharp piece of plastic in the mash potatoes of a to-go order. Emailed three people at corporate to let them know about it, and none of them replied. They just don’t care. I guess business is good enough to where they don’t have to.

I had tickets for a school fundraiser.(You buy the tickets from a school, and each ticket is a meal at Tahoe Joe’s. $ 40 two meals.) I called in my takeout order, and when I arrived, it was ready. There was quite a line of people waiting, but I was in and out in just a minute. The woman in charge was pleasant and friendly despite the obvious crowd; they should keep her. Because it’s a fundraiser, there are three meal choices & no substitutions. You can have steak, chicken or half rack of ribs, and it comes with mashers, green beans & salad. Though my wife is vegetarian, we ordered two rib meals. I get all the ribs, and she gets most of the hot sides. We each get a salad. We got our money’s worth. The ribs were tender & falling off the bone, and the portion was more than adequate. The bbq sauce was sweet, and of course, messy. You need lotsa napkins for these ribs! One half-rack was enough for me, and I have another for lunch tomorrow! The ranch dressing was thick and tasty, and the croutons were more than just an accent. I REALLY liked the croutons. We were both a little disappointed in the green beans, and neither of us took more than a bite or two of those. Loved the mashers; the portion there could have been a bit larger. We didn’t realize there would be meat gravy on the mashers, and it would have been nice to know that; we would have skipped it. There were also two rolls and those were soft & fresh, and served with real butter. I did not visit the restrooms, or the bar, so my review excludes those areas. I will definitely return to Tahoe Joe’s in the future, for both take out and dine-in.
