I have a soft spot for dirty Chinese food. It’s filling, cheap, and I love me some msg on occasion. Your best option for Chinese food at the Windward mall.

— Much smaller(= less offerings) than the Ala Moana location. — Considering it’s fast-food/food court Chinese food, I wasn’t expecting the greatest quality food. However, even considering this, the quality was pretty mediocre. Kind of greasy actually… + Convenient location(Windward Mall food court). + Surprisingly, their pancit bison is really good — better than Golden Coin!!! Lots of better food options in and near the mall.

Manapua was dry. Lady was already helping the guy behind me while I was still ordering. There was a fly in the rice cake tray. Don’t waste your time here.

Good kau yuk and chow fun. Really good baked manapua. Prices for goodies is a little high but this is the Mall, everything is overpriced. They do make really really good jai(to me). I could eat the whole pan lol

I LOVE Chinese food… but not when it’s very oily, salty and unappetizing right after the first few bites. The only redeeming part was the very tasty char siu. Unfortunately the char siu doesn’t warrant another visit that’s for sure!!!

Was just so-so, if u ask me. Convenient because they have a hot line, so the food is already cooked. The taste could use some work. The prices are not bad for the portions, but they are no Patty’s Chinese Kitchen! The beef broccoli and sweet sour spare ribs were bland and the kau yuk was too fatty. They had gau and other Chinese treats, but those were kind of pricey. If you’re in a rush, not a completely terrible choice.

Horrible service. The cheapest flimsiest chopsticks, food looks nothing like what is pictured on their display. The food is super salty and I normally love salty.

I actually really like this place. Although I must be honest and say that I only go when their plates are 50% off. They mark down their plates a half hour before the mall closes. I don’t really like the singapore noodles, but pretty much like everything else. Their food is a tad on the greasy side, but still tastes good Their service is like any other take out Chinese place.

It’s too bad… What could have been a decent experience had quickly turned sour. PROS: + They have roast pork and roast duck + Conveniently located in the mall food court CONS: — Mediocre greasy food — Did not honor their own coupon — Bad customer service After a quick hike at the Lanikai Pillboxes Joel H. and I had headed to Windward Mall because I wanted to check out Soul Trex, and we decided to get some lunch while we were there. It was about 1:00pm on a Monday afternoon when we got there. We looked around the food court to see what we had to choose from. It was a toss up between Maruki-Tei, and Chinatown Express because I always eat at Hotdog on a Stick whenever I’m at Windward Mall, and I wanted to change it up a little. I decided on Chinatown Express because they had roast pork and duck, and I had a couple dollar off coupons for them. $ 1 Off Coupon: Maybe this coupon was intended to be used at a specific location, but that restriction is not listed anywhere on the coupon. I know it’s only a one dollar off coupon, and a dollar isn’t a big deal, but the fact that I wasn’t able to use it because they had no idea what to do, and then being told to bring it in next time really irked me. What happens when I bring it in again next time, and they still don’t honor it, and tell me to come in and use it again the next time after that? I’m just cutting my losses and ending it here. I ordered my food, Kung Pao Fried rice, Roast Pork, Roast Duck, and Mushroom Chicken. I got to the register to pay, and handed over my coupon, and the unfriendly middle aged Chinese lady who was helping me seemed confused with the coupon. She discussed it with her co-worker, a younger unfriendly Chinese lady about it(in Chinese), and the younger one asked me what it was. And I pointed out that it was a coupon for Chinatown Express for a dollar off. She said she didn’t know, and handed it back to me asking me to bring it back to use it next time. Apparently they don’t honor their own coupons, and then say to bring it back next time… Sorry, Chinatown Express in Windward Mall, but there will never ever be a next time for me and you. As for the food, it could have been because of my bad experience at the register, but the food was gross. The Kung Pao Fried rice was red, and looked spicy, but was actually kind of bland, and just very slightly spicy. Nice try. The Mushroom Chicken was pretty standard except for the undercooked zucchini. Some of them were actually crunchy. Fail. The roast pork and roast duck were cold, soggy and greasy. The fat in the pork wasn’t melt-in-your-mouth soft, like how it’s supposed to be. It was actually pretty solid, and the skin was chewy, not crispy. I wonder how long it was sitting out there getting cold and bacteria ridden. I should have just stuck with Hotdog on a Stick, or waited in line for Maruki-Tei. At least for next time my decision will be 33% easier. If I’m ever in Windward Mall, and feeling like fake Chinese food I’m walking down the other hallway to Panda Express. Never again for the Windward Mall location of Chinatown Express!

Review for Windward Mall location: 4.0=Parking Okay,(this is a food court, so you may have to walk a bit) 3.0=Service(competent, need to work on friendliness, warmth) 2.0 = Selection(kind of limited for Chinese Buffet) 3.0=Prices(high, be careful of some selections, i.e. Roast Pork $ 1.00 added for this selection) 1.0 = Taste… Terrible(Hard to ruin Chinese Food but this was bad…(is realtive to my taste) 3.0= Facility(Clean, serving area) 2.0 =(Cash Only). What I purchased: Thin Fried Noodles(bland very very light seasoning) Roast Pork this was the best of my 3 choices crispy, moist, slightly burnt, Sweet Sour Spare Ribs tough, bland again very lightly seasoned, Cold Ginger Chicken was okay. I am a rather big eater that’s why I am a BIGPERSON… but I only finished ¼ of my plate… very unusual for me. Total Price about $ 11.00.

One of my new lunch break stops! Their baked manapua is filled with mostly air inside :(but it still tastes really good. The steamed is filled. I like their half moon and bean jin doy. It’s sooo delicious! The food is really quick. The workers are okay, some nicer than others, but it really is just like any other Chinese fast food restaurant.

They have the WORST Jin Doy!!! The coconut filling was completely wrong and tasted like mush. This is one of the easiest things to make and they somehow managed to screw it up. After they deep fried it [and the point is to get the outside nice and crunchy], they covered it with plastic wrap! This made it a soggy, gooey mess. I took a bite and threw it directly in the garbage.

This is just another Chinese food to go stand at this Mall. The food is not fresh. Just by the taste of it, I could tell that all the items I chose were left overs. And that is not OK, because I had upset stomach half an hour afterwards, and then a run follows. I wouldn’t go back! They have another branch at the Ala Mona Shopping center. I didn’t have a problem there.
