Wish I had checked the reviews on Unilocal before wasting our money! The coconut soup was okay. prefer it on the sweeter side. The fried rice and indo peanut noodles were boring! Too many good restautants in Kihei to waste a meal at this one.

The past 2 nights we’ve driven by and the restaurant appears closed. Tonight we noted a «For Lease» sign in the window… Checked their website – no new address listed. Their blogpage hasn’t been updated since ’08. Bummer.

Yummy. Fresh veggies. Freshly wok’d piping hot food. Friendly at counter. Outdoor seating only(absolutely GREAT with us!). No «service» at tables and when you are done, you bus it yourself. Kind of pricey for what it is. Hubs loved the miso with beef and also ordered a side of veggies, yum! I got the indo-peanut and it was NOT my fave… very thick sauce, i think actual peanut butter… kinda flavorless… had to add soy. The next time I tried the teriyaki… normally a big fan, but again, kind of lacked flavor. Tip — I LOVE chow fun” noodles… you can substitue them in any dish… or any of the noodles in any of the dishes, for that matter! We would eat here again.

This was not at all good. The Kung pao with beef was marginal and that was the best meal in our group though I don’t recall what those were exactly(one was a Thai dish, the other two chow mein) but suffice it to say they were not at all good. Hospitality was their redeeming quality.

Ugh, disappointing and way over priced. My Thai Red Curry was flavorless. The kids Teriyaki Bowls were marginal, but just over cooked chicken w under cooked broccoli and too much liquid. Drew’s Kung Pow was at least edible, unlike mine, which was left uneaten. Oh btw, no liquor you have to walk your happy ass across the street to the store and BYOB. The worst part was when I told my local friends where we ate they all groaned and said had I asked they would have sent us anywhere but there.

Bad news! This place is horrible. We went for a late lunch after a morning at the pool. The fried rice was tasteless and the Indo Peanut noodles was a bowl of gummy paste that could be used to hang billboards. I took two bites and decided I did not want that stuff coating my stomach let alone my intestine. Service? There is none. You order at the counter, get your own water and utensils. Later, not too much later, someone brings out your crappy food, sets it on the table and leaves. To make matters worse everything costs $ 9 but you have to pay extra to add on meat or shrimp to what you order. Quick Tip: STAYAWAYFROMTHISPLACE and spend your good earned $$ elsewhere.

We were looking for somewhere that was open late that had soup or ramen without going to Zippys since we have that all over Oahu. WokStar was recommended to us and we decided to try it since it was on our way back to Wailea, had passed it after breakfast and thought it was a cool place with a catchy name. But apparently that’s all it was. You order first, then find your seat. There are cushions to sit on at the bench tables which I thought was a plus. Although I wanted soup, I got the Chow Mein($ 9) and added Chicken for $ 3. Someone brings out the order to your table. It comes in a bowl and it was alright, but not worth $ 12 to me. A couple people in my party had the miso ramen and I’m glad I didn’t order that. It looked like all the ingredients were thrown in the bowl and topped off with a mound of bean sprouts. Jeez louise, I bet they had do dig deep to get to the noodles. They should use bigger bowls! I’m a big ramen fan, but I like my bowl to be mostly noodles more than anything else. Someone else had the keiki ramen. I tried it and it had to be the worst tasting saimin ever! Very bland! Even cup o noodles saimin has more flavor! Save your $ 12 and spend less than that at Sam Satos!

BOMB! One of the best places I ate all week. Perfect for«too tired to make something post beach/maui activity» One bowl and an appetizer was plenty for two people to share. Good pricing considering the area. They bring your food out to you, self seating. Try the Kung Pao Chicken bowl & Potstickers.

Definitely disappointing. After reading all the ads and reviews that say how great this place is and how it was such a bargain, I was excited to have a great lunch. Our first thought after getting there was that this place absolutely was not a bargain. Averaging about $ 9 a bowl, and that does not include meat. Adding meat costs another $ 3 – 5, depending on what you wanted to add. That’s at least $ 12 for a bowl of stir fry noodles! We decided to try it anyways, and the food was ok. It was mediocre and would have gotten 3 stars if it costs what it was worth, about $ 6 – 7 with meat. I wouldn’t recommend going there. There are many better restaurants within walking distance from there for a much better bargain.

Often after a few drinks I find myself wandering past the squalid dive bars of south Kihei, hoping to find a restaurant open after 10 pm. Today I found the Wokstar, and found my preconceived judgement of after hours Kihei as a culinary wasteland to be pleasantly disproved. As I sat waiting for my food, a man was starting up a conversation with the woman at the table behind me. When she referred to the Wokstar as «Thai Food,» he corrected her and said«no, its Thai-ish food.» I would call it fusion Thai except for the fact that saying fusion makes me feel like a snooty New Yorker Somellier snob. I ordered Won-Ton’s and the Thai Coconut Chicken Soup. The Wontons came out pan fried to just the right amount of crispy, with a delicious soft chicken filling served atop cabbage. They came with soy sauce and what I think was a miso ranch dip, which suited the flavor and heat perfectly. The Soup was moderately spicy, and instead of the bok choy, lemongrass or galangal you might find in a traditional Thai Coconut Soup, it had fresh mushrooms, sweet Maui onions, roasted garlic and fresh basil that reminded me of my grandfather’s garden. Delicious!

Great food, friendly service and amazing! I love the thai coconut chicken soup and my kid always finds something new to try on the menu. I’m sure going to miss this place when I head back to the mainland!

A cute cheery hut style joint with appealing décor. Great place to have a bite and enjoy the beach style location? WRONG The food wasn’t terrible, but I did not enjoy it either, and I was hungry! I had the saimin, and the broth was terribly flat. A meal consisting of simple noodles needs the broth to hold it together. This was more like dough strings in salty water. The meal was so bland and boring, especially considering how exciting the flavors of Hawaii usually are, a mecca of fusion food. In short, it looked really good, but the cafeteria style saimin I had at the airport was more enjoyable.

I’m Asian. As I was standing outside of WokStar reviewing their outdoor chalkboard menu, a white haole tourist came up to me and said«Excuse me, we have some ordering questions?» I turned to him, confused, and said, «Um… I don’t work here.‘ He appeared flustered and exclaimed, «OH! Oh my, I’m sorry. I just thought that since you were Asian and that this is a place called WokStar… um… you know…» And then he slowly backed away. Open mouth, insert foot buddy. Recommend: Not adding bacon to anything because they will overcharge you for it! Avoid: The veggie fried rice(bland) and the giant salad(okay-tasting but it is TINY, fit into two little Chinese take-out containers, and is definitely not worth the $ 13 price tag) Very disappointing. (Ironically enough, NOBODY who works at WokStar is Asian. Go figure.)

WokStar is awesome! First, I love that it’s BYOB — you can easily dash across the street to the local grocery store for a six pack, or a bottle of wine, and the staff is gracious enough to offer you a chilled glass for your refreshing beverage — can’t beat that! The atmosphere is fantastic — it sits right on the edge of the the main thoroughfare of Kihei, so it’s great people watching, and it’s literally steps from the beach, surfing, and lots of great activities at Kalama Park. The seating area is open and inviting, and feels a bit like home. The food of course is the main reason I go… always fresh and beautifully presented with personal touches like a sprig of fresh Thai Basil from the chef’s own garden. I used to be a die-hard fan of the Indo-Peanut stir fry — it’s rich and delicious, with generous amounts of fresh vegetables! Lately I have been on a salad kick, and I can’t say enough about the Jace Swagger Salad — it’s fresh, crisp, I substitute the tofu for some chicken, and it’s the BEST! Do yourself a favor and save room for a Nutella Jaffel for dessert — RIDICULOUS. Seriously healthy portions — I usually get two meals out of one order, so the value is awesome. It’s a perfect spot to refuel after a day’s activities, and also a fabulous place to meet up with friends for dinner. I heart WokStar!

Alright-y here goes, this little shack has a lot to offer in terms of portion size, but I’ll get to that in a little bit. There’s limited seating at this restaurant. So I suggest you either go there before the rush or look into ordering out and sitting on the beach to eat your food. So the food itself is relatively good. It’s an interesting fusion of Chinese and Thai food. I had the Thai red curry which was surprisingly yummy. Someone else in my party got the indo stir fry which has a lot of peanut sauce up in there. For me, I liked it since I’m a fan of peanuts, however after a while it gets to be a little too much. The peanut sauce just takes over and you feel like you’re rating straight peanut butter. I suggest you share all the items you order since the portion sizes are hefty. If you ate a light eater, try the kids menu! I do appreciate the fact that this place has a kids menu and complementary water. We also had the satay as an appetizer which was very good starter. Since this place is relatively small, there aren’t very many workers, but they were very inviting and they could tell we were non natives. They gave us a menu and told u’s to take our time ordering. You order at the cash register and they deliver your food to the table. They do a good job of remembering who ordered what. Other than the size and the overwhelming use of peanut sauce, I liked this place. Hope this review helps you out and thanks for reading!

Since I got into my hotel late, I started cruising the beach in search of food options. Everything was closed… except Wok Star. I ordered a Kung Pao bowl with chicken. The woman who took my order said the server left, so she had some trouble navigating the credit card machine. But after many tries, she finally got it to run through. The bowl itself was fine. Noodles, water chestnuts, chicken and assorted other ingredients. I ate the whole thing because I was straight-up starving. In reality, it wasn’t much to write home about. Basic, basic, basic. It’s the kind of place you wouldn’t go to as a destination restaurant, but after 11 p.m., when your options are slim and none, I suppose it’s nice to have Wok Star among the slim. Seating is fairly minimal. A few picnic tables and a bar facing the beach. It’s a no-frills kind of place. But it’s simple, it’s solid, and I can’t really say anything bad about it.

The only reason to come to WokStar is for a late night bite when all the other food places are closed. They douse everything heavily with sauce which would create a nice coating on the belly after a night out drinking. Or should I say before a night out drinking. But for those who have been sitting in the hot Maui sun and wanting something fresh, light yet filling, this place advertises this kind of food but heavy, saturated, and over seasoned is what they actually deliver.

I LOVETHISPLACE! First– I love the atmosphere. Such good food at a comfy place. Curry– is amazing! Great aroma and flavor. I loved my thai noodles– and the spring rolls are fried just right. Food is slow to come– but that is because of the extra care they are giving– everything is so fresh! A must try while in Kihei!

Wokstar international noodle café was a great find. A small road side café ran by a couple surfers serves varity of noodle soup and stir fry with flavors from Thai, Indonesia, China, and Japan. After the first taste, we went back every morning. I had Thai red curry every time while Milton tried varieties. Thai red curry with beef is the best, the purple taro roots makes it special. Wokstar has amazing location, across street from surf park with surf shop right next to it. Surf board rental and instructors right next door.

Great name. Great concept. Great spot. Good prices. I came here for dinner once and breakfast a couple times for a veggie jaffel and some great local Maui coffee. yum. It is open at 7AM so is convenient before those early morning excursions. For dinner I had the indonesian noodles with well made peanut sauce. I would eat here several times a week probably if I lived Kihei or Waihlea.
