Steak ‘n Shake

I can’t even give this location one star because after waiting almost five minutes at the entrance to be seated, I walked out. The host made eye contact with me three times and kept walking right past me. She even restocked the placemats in the host stand twice while I stood there along with others waiting to be seated.

Horrible service! Just flew into Dallas and needed something quick to eat for my long drive to Oklahoma. I pulled in the drive thru and was asked to wait a minute — no big deal. Five minutes later he comes back on the speaker and says I suggest you come inside if you want service. If I wanted to go inside, I would. Personally, driving in the middle of the night as a female with a sleeping baby, I do not have that ability! So annoyed. Not even worth one star!

Our server Lachica was amazing. Very enthusiastic and super nice. However… I left there hungry… The fries were just nasty AND COMPLETELY unappetizing at his location in McKinney… Hey Steak n Shake! Your company would benefit greatly from training this young lady to run this store for you.

Easily the worst breakfast I have ever had. I had been to Steak N Shake before (different location) in the drive thru and have had average (but slow) experiences previously. My boyfriend assured me they had awesome breakfast, including all you can eat pancakes, and shouldn’t be nearly as packed as Bill Smith’s is on the weekends (which is where I really wanted to go).
Our server was inattentive and rude. I don’t think she could tell you what any of us looked like because she never looked at us. She stared at her pad while talking to us then would groan miserably as she turned away to order our drinks/​food. No one received any refills (which were much needed) and no one was asked how our food was — which was disgusting.
While ordering, I heard the manager tell the people in the booth behind us that the cook just didn’t know how to make pancakes right and that ALL of the batter was just wrong so there were no pancakes available that morning. Bummer. I ordered a skillet and it was downright disgusting. I didn’t even eat ¼ of it. My boyfriend is a big food lover and he barely touched his food either. Just smelling it made my stomach turn.
I kept looking around for the waitress and she was nowhere to be found. There were two servers around, one doing side work and the other bitching to her about how he had great f — ng service, people should tip him way f — ing better. You know, the kind of conversation that’s absolutely lovely to hear with a 5 year old present (he didn’t like his food much either).
The meal ended up costing over $ 23 — which was way more expensive than Bill Smith’s — and was disgusting and the service was terrible. I will never go to Steak N Shake again.

Stopped by for a breakfast biscuit with sausage and egg. The sandwich was not as hot as it should have been, The worst part was the sausage was really cheap, and full of bone fragments and gristle. I could not eat more than a few bites before i chunked it into the grass for the birds to eat. I will try them again, I hope for the next one to be better!

Food is okay and cheap. That’s where the one star comes from.
Every time I come here the service is terrible. There is never any managers there to complain so don’t think the rude and bad service is going to change if you talk to another employee they send pretending to be a manager. Our waitress was flat out rude. When taking my order she didn’t look at us once and looked like she was arguing with another employee while taking our order. She rushed away after we gave our order. Came back with the wrong drinks told her then she got more upset didn’t say a thing like sorry and she brought back extra cups so she doesn’t have to wait on us. Food came back wrong so we asked for what we ordered. Now she is more upset and didn’t say a word after messing up on our drinks and now food order. I ask to speak with a manager and they didn’t have one. This is 6pm so they should have one.
During the whole dispute every time she went to the soda fountain she would stare me down then walk by and mumble things like I don’t care and things I didn’t understand. Was not professional at all and made our dinner very uncomfortable.
I will not be going back to this place ever again. If there was a manager there things would have been settled im sure.
Stay clear of this place, if you want service or a happy face go some place else. Wendy’s is right across the street and they always give better service.

I have been here several times after taking my grandson to the free playtime at Zenith Gymnastics. Out server, female, who’s 1^st name starts with LA_​_​_​_​_​is amazing. Always smiley, fast, and do accommodating especially since I have a 1 ½ year old with me. I just live her. My receipt didn’t have her name and she is do fast I still haven’t quite caught it. But I will next time ;-)

The food is always good, that’s not the problem at this location, here, the problem is the staff and service. It’s complete crap. No one is friendly and they all look like they hate being here and that’s always a major turn off at restaurants. We understand you may not like your job, but don’t let that effect how you treat customers, that just sucks. I am writing this from a table here right now. Oh and they claim that they start serving breakfast at midnight but my boyfriend have been up here past midnight on multiple occasions (8 times to be exact) and they were never serving breakfast. Why advertise something like you do it at that time when u don’t. Makes no sense. But the food is always bangin.

I’ve been here several times… usually drive thru.
The seater was horrible and not very welcoming. I almost turned around to go eat elsewhere. My server was awesome and very attentive.
The seater also cashed me out and made me feel like I was bothering her. I mentioned this to the manager.

The food is sloppy and the waitress we have is sloppy she never check on us and she did not care about our order and she back talk to use and so this place sucks for real.

While the food tasted ok, the whole place is filthy! I would guess it’s been well over a year since the floor was properly mopped. None of the tables or seats had been wiped clean. The bathroom was disgusting. The waitstaff’s clothes were all filthy and looked like they had been worn for several days without being washed. I can’t even imagine what the kitchen must look like if the dining area looks like this. This was my first time visiting this location and will definitely be my last. The Health Department might want to take a serious look at this location. Easily the dirtiest fast food place to eat in McKinney.

Food was good. However, this place gets 2 stars for the outrageous waiting time. Literally took 30 minutes for me to get the order after paying.
Likely, we’ll never go back. Might have been a onetime thing, but not impressed whatsoever.

This location if nice, the associates here are very friendly and they make sure their guest are taken care of. The 4.99 menu is good and inexpensive, I get the double meat, without cheese and the fries. The two extra dollars is for the drink but that comes with unlimited refills so it’s a decent investment. It’s also close to my new job so I don’t really complain much about traveling here. It can get hectic at the lunch hour because the number of people increases and flies can get into the store from outside and become a nuisance. But overall its a nice place with good food, and decent prices

M’eh…there’s better cheap food out there…

Walking in the feel brought you back to the good ol days and the place was packed. We asked them to wipe our table dry because they just bleached it. Somewhere along the 40 seconds they forgot. and placed our silverware and menus down for us. I decided to adventure out and order the Cajun burger which was a huge mistake. All they did was take a regular bun and over season it. We ended up paying without a receipt because we got tired of waiting on our waitress.

Shakes are decent from time to time. Food is decent to mediocre. Service is awful. Servers never come to check on you, and when they do its like they don’t care to be there at all.
I’m guessing bad management? I like stake n shake… but not this location.

Loved the fact that they are open 24 hours, but I really like the staff here. I work late hours so don’t usually get home until about 3 AM. But when I am craving a milk shake or something, I can always depend on this place to take care of that late night munchies.

This location used to be pretty good but things have really fallen off drastically. I can’t review the food from this trip because it was too much trouble for anyone to actually bother to take our order. We got seated after a short wait and then nothing. Plenty of staff in the store but they were all busy playing with a friend’s baby. And the duty manager was busy sweeping the kitchen. We waited for over 15 minutes and then left. I doubt if anyone has yet noticed we’re gone.

Sad that this Steak ‘n Shake has gone downhill. Had burger and chili mac. Burger was good. Chili mac just doesn’t taste as good as it used to. The chili needed some chili flavor or maybe they changed the sauce. I always get a strawberry shake and have for years and years. My shake was dark pink and tasted like it had strawberry «flavoring» added to it. Something has definitely changed. I told my husband to please remind me the next time I want a strawberry shake that my last one was really dark and tasted like strawberry syrup. I will never order one of their strawberry shakes again.
Also, the entire time we were there, one of the employees had her two young children there sitting by themselves. I’m not opposed to bringing your children to work for a day. Babysitter problem maybe? That’s okay, but perhaps put them in the break room. She had to get onto them a couple of times. They were being loud and banging on the table. The little boy was picking on his sister. Stuff like that. Kind of annoying when you are sitting right next to them and it’s continual throughout your visit.
Most likely won’t visit this particular Steak ‘n Shake again.

I have not had Steak N Shake for 15 years. They are as good as I remembered. Oh and very cheap. Service was good both times I have been here. Last night our food was on our table in 5 min. I will be back. So glad they are close to where I live now.
