We stayed at the GSR last weekend and decided to try Rim out. It was pretty good. Not PF Chang’s good, but close. We chose a few Chinese dishes, had the Mongolian Beef and it was Delish! So was the Chow Mein! The General’s Chicken was not so good, the chicken was over-cooked and very hard to chew. Prices were a little high, but hey, you are in a Casino/Resort so that’s to be expected. We did not try the AYCE Sushi based on the fact that it was around $ 29 per person and their Sushi menu was VERY limited in selection! But overall, we liked the Chinese dishes and will definitely eat here again.

We had all you can eat sushi and it was awesome! The chef’s were attentive and there was no waiting between servings. One of our chef’s made us a «chef special» based on our first few choices and it was amazing!!! We just let him create and we were not disappointed. No wait for a seat on a Friday night either. Great fun!!!

I still love the Rim. It has become my favorite Sushi restaurant. And Chef James, now knows us and starts our order even before we sit down. He knows I can’t chew the sea weed and makes my rolls with soy paper. He knows I love upside shrimp and it’s the first thing he serves me. He knows Deb starts with all the tuna nigiri. And the fish is always fresh. My current issue is not just with The Rim, but also at several of the other Sushi places(Tha Joint, Tokyo Sushi, and others)… and that’s with my favorite appetizer… a simply cucumber salad. However, lately, because this salad can spoil within a day or two, they simply are not preparing the salad so it marinates. Last night I got chunky cucumbers, which were not even cut all the way through, with a little rice vinegar thrown over it and some sesame seeds. This is not cucumber salad, it’s cucumbers with sesame seeds… no time to marinate… simply awful. I have to say, this is not James’ doing, as the cucumber salad comes from the kitchen. I have to say that the best cucumber salad I’ve had recently came from The Eldorado’s Sushi Sake…(a place where the service keeps me from going often) the Sushi Chef actually julienned the cucumbers so thin they were like mini spaghetti and he tossed them with the dressing for a few minutes before serving them. Although they didn’t marinate a long time, the cucumbers were so thin they absorbed the dressing almost immediately. Listen, this is my personal pet peeve… cucumber salad is my concession to vegetables when you’ve gone out to eat fish and rice. The Rim is still my new favorite Sushi place… I will continue to go there… but may not get to «eat my veggies.» Unless Sushi places learns to make the salad in small batches so it doesn’t spoil. LOL

Slimy/Soggy chicken. Chicken tasted like seafood and was fishy. Vegetables were overcooked(steamed or boiled). Wasnt too impressed.

Not too bad. The service is great and food comes fast. Sushi is on par with the the area. We’ve eaten here twice and I’ll definitely be back.

Just ok, have been here several times… Valentine’s Day we made a reservation then found out they wouldn’t honor the reservation if we wanted all you can eat sushi which is only served at the bar? Ok…unagi is great, then we usually pick one other roll and stick with it as the options are very limited portions are very simple and its price on the higher end. I wouldn’t go out of my way to eat here

Here on a Saturday night and was trying to sit at the bar. I was waiting for the bartender to clean up the two open spaces but he looked at me and went about his business. I put my timer on my watch to see if he was ever going to acknowledge me and he didn’t and more than 10 minutes went by. Had my husband go check out the steakhouse bar area and we went there instead… This place really deserves 0 stars!!!

Rim offers pan-Asian cuisine with Chinese, Japanese, Korean, and Thai influences. They also have a first come, first serve all you can eat sushi bar for $ 29 pp, which was the main reason we chose to eat here. The sushi wasn’t the best quality, but the fish did taste fresh. However the sushi rice was terrible — hard and undercooked. Sushi options include nigiri, hand rolls, and specialty rolls(aka heavily Westernized rolls). My recommendation is to get the nigiri and minimize the number of specialty rolls, as the latter tend to be heavy on the sauces. Miso soup, cucumber salad, seaweed salad, edamame, and green tea ice cream are also included in the AYCE deal. The restaurant staff were nice and good with refilling water and checking if we had everything we wanted, but our waitress took forever getting our check at the end. Since the AYCE is first come, first serve and available only at the sushi bar with limited seating, expect to wait for up to 1 hour during peak hours. However, the restaurant will take your number and call you when your table is ready, allowing you some time to wander Grand Sierra Resort grounds.

This has become my go to sushi spot! Located in Resturant Row @GSR. When James is at the sushi bar I don’t even order. I just let home do his magic! Most of James’ creations are posted on Unilocal — they change every time so there are no names to his creations. I’ve been told that my fellow Yellper have walked in… requested to sit at James’ station and shown him my photo posts from Unilocal and said«We want this.» James was tickled. When James is not in I stick to my usual order — maguro, himachi, and white albacore nigiri, rainbow hand roll, and a few long roll usually an Arizona Roll & a Volcano Roll. Sushi chef at like fingerprints no two are a like. Some are fans of the Sriracha other are purest just fish and rice. If you don’t like something on your sushi just tell them and they will adjust the preparation. The menu has tons of roll options including many cooked rolls. Mary is one of the sweetest servers. Always friendly. Takes my order with a knowing smile when I order cucumber salad(crunchy and refreshing), edamame and Pinot Noir(shocking). It’s always the same order. She always acts surprised when I throw in the towel on the all you can eat menu after 3 nigiri, 1 hand roll &2 – 3 long rolls She always checks if I want the green tea ice cream but I usually pass. @ roughly $ 30 per person for all you can eat it’s a bit more pricey than most all you can eat menus in town but worth it. There are only a few downsides: 1 They’re not open for lunch 2 All you can eat is only offered at the bar 3 There are too many stool mashed together at the bar. 4 Some stools have arms — they’re just not that easy to get in and out of. 5 No hooks under the bar to hang your purse or backpack with the stools that tight you have to eat with your purse on your lap or the floor – which is bad luck!

Great Chinese/Asian/Sushi restaurant inside the heart of GSR. My orange chicken was amazing. Super good, lots of food, great price. Loved it. My husbands sushi ummmm not so much. Rolls were really small for the price. My recommendation — don’t order the sushi. Our first server sucked! She took forever to take our oder, bring us water and even bring us utensils. Finally after she went MIA we tracked down a new server who took over for her. The 2nd server was great and took wonderful care of us.

We ate here during our one night stay at the GSR, since the line for the buffet was simply ridiculous, and we were starving. I knew this place was overpriced and overrated but it wasn’t horrible. We began with drinks, and I had the Lychee Raspberry Bellini, which was a little on the sweet side but pretty good. The boy had the ginger margarita, which tasted like a lime sour patch kid. Way too sour for my taste, but he enjoyed it. We got the potstickers for an appetizers, which although they fell apart as soon as you took a bite(the meat just fell entirely out of the wrapper in every single one) They tasted really good and came with a ginger dipping sauce. I also got the egg flower soup which was pretty flavorful and substantial For entrees, we had the Pad Thai and the General’s Chicken. I found the pad thai to be pretty flavorless, but it came with a lime and had a little bit of spice to it(I requested mild, just in case) The fried rice was good and fluffy, but could have benefitted from some extra soy sauce, and the boy was happy with his chicken. I will say the service was great, and we were seated immediately in a very accessible area. This is definitely not a five star restaurant but if you’re looking for a decent sit down meal without the buffet line, this is worth a shot. I would go again, and maybe try the sushi next time.

My family and I had Christmas dinner here at Rim, a restaurant located in the heart of GSR. Great ambiance and service. The wait staff was extremely friendly and even gave their recommendations for which slopes around Tahoe/Reno to hit. All you can eat sushi is $ 29 per person which comes with miso soup and seaweed or cucumber salad. If you’re starving for sushi this is the place. Otherwise The sushi was pretty delicious but after the 3rd plate it all starts tasting the same. I recommend Simply the Best and Takos. Philadelphia and Godzilla rolls were mediocre. There’s also numerous la carte Asian dishes available which were tasty. Overall the prices were reasonable and it was a fun dinner considering we had a hour long wait.

I don’t normally come into these big casino restaurants very often, but I was meeting a client here that was staying at this hotel(GSR) and this way he didn’t need to drive anywhere. He had suggested this place since it seemed a little more casual than say the Palmer’s Steakhouse. He’s on time and we go in. No wait this time. I see there’s a sushi bar here, but we need a table as it’s too hard to really talk business sitting side by side at a bar with other people sitting around you. It’s pretty loud in here, so we can’t use our quiet voices. Our server comes over and we order drinks. Scotch neat for him and a cosmo for me. Small talk ensues as we look over the menu. This is supposed to be «Pan Asian», but really looks to be just the more popular American dishes of Chinese, Japanese(sort of), and SE Asia. Nothing exotic to rare here. But this is business and not a culinary adventure, so we get some mainstream things. To start he wants the Pot Stickers and then I suggest how about some sashimi. He seems delighted at the idea and I inquire about getting a plate of seared albacore sashimi. I guess I should have asked what that was gonna cost, but hey, it’s an expense account. Turns out it was like $ 24 for an 8 piece order. We keep the menus and wait for our appetizers while discussing business. The drinks from the bar seem OK. The pot stickers arrive and seem more like Gyoza(Japanese) than Pot Stickers(Chinese), but whatever. Not the best presentation, as some of the dumplings were broken open arriving from the kitchen. I didn’t say anything. The sashimi arrives. My first impression was the somewhat sloppy plating. Having sashimi should be like a piece of art before you. This was more of a poster print, compared to a fine art piece. It came with 8 pieces, and somewhat over sauced with liquid sloshed around the plate. The fish itself was just the same stuff you can get at any sushi bar in Reno, just regular mid quality. Neither of us said anything as politeness prevailed. For our next round of food, we had the Asian Chicken Salad, Singapore Rice Noodles and the half Roast Duck. I forgot the exact prices, but they were all way above normal prices for those same dishes elsewhere. I think the Rice noodles were around $ 16 and the duck was $ 19. The Chicken Salad arrives first and it’s the strangest version of Chinese chicken salad I’ve seen. Chopped chicken and leaves of lettuce, made for an awkward dish that really just did not work in concept. The Singapore Noodles were a mound of curried rice noodles, mixed with a smattering of egg and small number of shrimp. The flavor was OK, but for the price, I would have expected better. I was sort of looking forward to the duck as it’s one of my fave foods, but I was hoping my client didn’t see my face of disappointment when this poor mess of a duck arrive at our table. WTF? What kind of cook you got working back there? The poor duck was just chopped up and strewn across the plate in one disorganized mess. Plating effort out the window, with no garnish to make a nice presentation at all, little neck pieces mixed in with the rest of the duck. I thought this looked like fast food duck at 99 Ranch Chinese supermarkets! OK, maybe if this was the best damn duck I ever tasted, I might forgive the plated mess. But no, the poor duck was dried out and the skin wasn’t crispy at all … like it had been sitting in the kitchen for a few days. The kitchen should be ashamed to serve this, and for inflated prices as well! My dinner meeting went well despite the incompetence of this restaurant, alcohol has a way of helping in those departments! I reluctantly paid the bill, not to make a scene, and we left after passing on any dessert. The servers here seemed like just that servers, not really educated in the food they’re serving, just take the order and bring the food out or have a runner do it. I’ll be avoiding this«RIM» restaurant in the future, I suggest you do the same. If you want sushi, there are plenty of other better choices in Reno … yes, but you will have to drive!

I’ve been looking for a place like this for a long time. James is a chef not just a sushi cutter. When we sit now all I do ask to be fed. He creates some very good looking and tasty sushi. Since I am a little more adventurous than my dinning partners I do have to ask for certain fish separately.

Atmosphere: Inside everything looks very elegant, they had wine glasses for the water and nice plates for each sushi roll. We sat at the bar but they packed so many chairs at the bar I couldn’t move my arms because I would be elbowing the gentleman next to me or my boyfriend… Having one roll on each plate looked nice but we had to move our rolls to one plate ourselves because there was absolutely no room for more than two plates in front of us. Waitress: Our waitress was Jenni and she was amazing, super nice and accommodating from the time we sat down to the time we left. Chef: The chef was interesting, my boyfriend ordered two rolls and I ordered one. When I told him what I wanted he replied«I can only do one at a time» I’m not sure if he meant we could only have one roll at a time or if he was telling me he was overwhelmed that we just named three rolls. Sushi: The sushi didn’t exactly blow me away for how expensive all you can eat is… :(Not sure if we will go back until I see the reviews go up a little more!

I ordered an udon soup that had very little flavor. I was disappointed, but I think I was the only one at the table that was. Other folks at my table enjoyed what they ordered, some meat dishes, some sushi dishes, spring rolls. The wine and drink selection was great and both mine and my husbands wine selections were great and moderately priced. If I went back while staying there again… It would only be to order sushi.

If I could give zero stars for this place, I would. Customer service sucks, and the food is bland. Not the kind of Asian food you’d expect. We started off with the hot and sour soup which was not so bad. We then ordered the beef with broccoli, honey walnut shrimp, roasted duck, and Mongolian beef. Out of all four, the beef with broccoli was the only one we enjoyed. The honey walnut shrimp was definitely not what we expected it to be. It was so bland, and the batter did not mesh well with the shrimp. The taste was really fishy. The Mongolian beef had a sweet and sour taste which was really odd as well. When our server came to ask how everything was, we mentioned to her that it was ok. She saw how disappointed we were, and didn’t even bother to ask what was wrong. She just said, «as long as everything is ok». Meaning she didn’t really care. We then asked for the bill, and we informed her that the honey walnut shrimp was not good at all. Her response was, «let me take it to the back, and have them check what’s wrong with it». She then came back with the bill, and said her chefs didn’t think that there wasn’t anything wrong with it which made me upset. Regardless if YOU didn’t think it was wrong, WE did not like it. Terrible service!!! Think twice before you even come here.

Rim is pretty much what I expected from a hotel«Pan Asian» restaurant. Average, mainstream, and heavier fusion food. At least the portions were generous and prices weren’t bad for a resort. FOOD: Apps were average. Nothing notable about the edamame and egg rolls. Sushi was okay. My table got a selection of rolls to share, and they were all heavily sauced and Americanized. Rice was on the harder side, but the flavors weren’t bad. For my entrée, I tried the Three-Flavor Shrimp — Honey Glazed Walnut, Spicy Crispy, and Kumquat. All three types of shrimp were underseasoned and one-dimensional with the sauce. The Honey Glazed Walnut shrimp came with plain walnuts, and the sauce was especially thick and overwhelming. The Spicy Crispy flavor was not spicy at all and not crispy. Kumquat shrimp had a strong kumquat flavor, but it was on the sweeter side and also soggy from all the sauce. SERVICE: Our waitress was friendly and took the time to make sure she got the orders right and asked for our preference on the order of arrival. The sushi took a while to arrive after the appetizers, but the wait wasn’t too bad considering we had a larger group. The entrees came out promptly and all at once. AMBIANCE: Contemporary décor blended with ancient Chinese elements such as sculptures and bells. Cool blown glass lamps hanging from the ceiling. Classy and dimly lit. The diners themselves were dressed fairly casual.

Barely a 2.5 for Rim… So I am rounding down. Our server was great and the busboy kept our water glasses full constantly. They were working hard. My issue: the food. First, the food arrived fast, too fast. I have a feeling there are no fresh ingredients. I had the Pad Thai, which has chicken, shrimp and tofu. The shrimp was over-cooked and tasted«off.» The sauce and rice noodles were underwhelming, I suspect they came from a mix or package. My lime wedge had browned. Second, flavor. Little to be found. We compared notes and tried each other’s entrees and discovered they all suffered from blandness. The highlight of my meal was the margarita, which arrived with a lime that was rapidly trying to turn brown. If you are a foodie, I doubt you will like this place. If you have had a lot of Jäger and burned your tongue on some kind of shot with pyrotechnics, this place could agree with you.

Ugh, I’ll start the review out positive. We were seated right at the time of our reservation and service was very friendly and timely. Service is what brings this up from .5 stars, which is what end food earned. I’ll start at the end. ‘You guys sure you still want dessert?’ Hmmmm, how about YES, who doesn’t save room for CHEESECAKE?! Well, turns out RIM didn’t save room, since they were all out. Some people really like green tea ice cream, so I’m sure thats why they ordered it. The 4 of us, on the other hand, ordered the cheesecake. I mean, it wasn’t a special request(although it was my birthday and my buddy asked them to sing… they didn’t… I guess it’s hard to put a candle in green tea ice cream). Cheesecake is the dessert for the meal we ordered. The main course was ok, the duck was a little plain. Not sure if that makes sense but it came out looking like a chopped up rotisserie chicken, except not moist at all. Plenty of games/fowl jokes, but I’ll steer clear — to the beef. The beef was the best entrée, spicy, lots of flavor, only down side was the size of the pieces. The sesame chicken was not impressive either. It was thin curls of chicken… In sauce. Not what I was expecting. We didn’t have the tea cream, and honestly I would have thought we would have to pay a little less because they served us a little less than what we ordered. Seems fair to me. This used to be our favorite place at the casino. Not anymore.
