My chicken taco had a WIRE in it. Yes, a wire. The staff said they didn’t use wire brushes when cooking the chicken«so it must have been in the chicken». My kids have eaten there many times with rave reviews, but for me, doubt I’ll go back. They did refund my money for my dinner as compensation.

We wanted to eat lunch in one of the many restaurants on Oak Street today. We decided to check out this place since we liked the menu and atmosphere. For a family of 4, the price for food seemed high especially from a counter order restaurant. We tried a variety of tacos and my favorites were the veggie and fresh catch. The bison, pulled pork, carnitas and 3 little pigs were not liked well by any of us. They weren’t horrible but lacked in the flavor and texture we were hoping for. The seasoning on the grilled chicken taco was horrible(like a strong mesquite) so it was left nearly untouched. Beer was cold on draft and prices were reasonable. The large open windows were great to enjoy the beautiful weather. With all of the other choices in the area, we are going to skip this place and try someplace new.

Excellent fish taco; big piece of what tasted like cod, and a nice slaw on top. Veggie taco is excellent. Fried avocado and a good mix of veggies. Very good beans and rice. Guacamole and queso are above average as well. Everything prepared very well. Only complaint is I wish they gave maybe a thimble full of salsa to put on the taco. The red sauce on the table isn’t the same.

We were driving cross country from VA to CA and we stopped in TX for the night. The weather was bad and it was almost closing time and the place was almost deserted but the food and service was absolutely amazing! All the tacos were great but the Brisket taco was to die for. What I liked most was the welcoming and warm service from everyone from the servers to the bar tender. Our order came in and we were eating when I saw the avocado fries and commented that I would have loved to have that… but we didn’t have time. While we were eating I was pleasantly surprised to have a side of avocado fries(complimentary). Needless to say I was over the moon. It’s the best I had ever tasted! I really liked the Margarita’s on the rocks too. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone. Affordable & delicious food & beverages, warm & cosy atmosphere and above all fantastic service.

We love this place! We probably eat here at least once/week. It’s close by, and we can get quality food quickly when other restaurants in Roanoke have super long wait(I will never understand why someone would wait an hour or more just for fried chicken? could be that I’m not a fan of fried chicken.). Paco, the manager, always comes to say hello and makes us feel like family. He fawns over my boys, too, which we appreciate. The bison tacos are unique and delicious, as are the shrimp tacos, chicken tacos, etc.

I love this place! Variety in tacos and so delicious! The queso blanca and avocado fries are the best sides. But probably the best part are the sopapillas! Best ones I’ve ever had. I recommend this place to all of my friends. It’s never too crowded and reasonably priced.

Great Staff, very personable. Youngest manager but great person. Relaxed atmosphere. Warm and welcoming. Very inexpensive prices for food and drinks. Great food, people and Prices great to have them apart of the Twisted Root Family.

The food is excellent for the price. I’m a sucker for anything avocado– so this place is right up my alley. They had a pumpkin spice rootbeer. Get a sip.

Every time I get my hair done at KTS hair I stop by Tacos & Avocados for lunch. I look forward to it every few months because you can’t get avocado fries like theirs anywhere else! I always order the #2 combo(2 tacos + 1 side) and get their watermelon tea to drink. That’s a delicious lunch combo and homemade drink for under 10 bucks. Love it! Friendly staff, inviting atmosphere, full bar, tons of seating, and great food.

I think this place is alright. It is very close to my work and a lot of people really enjoy it, but every time I got I am a little disappointed. The atmosphere is fun and their ingredients seem very fresh — also the staff is wonderful! I have gotten the shrimp tacos each time and they are okay, but really not great. Also it’s pretty pricey for the amount of food. Usually when I go here it is with a group, but if I had a choice out of all the spots in the area I would skip this place, but its a solid effort!

Well this place kinda sucks. It’s a taco place that charges extra for salsa? The food itself is ok, I ordered a number 1 and got 2 tacos and«avocado fries» it was 3 tiny pieces of fried avocado very disappointed. The tacos lacked flavor, the chicken was dry I’m sure salsa would of helped but I’m not dishing out money for something that should be included. It’s a get nice location but that’s about it. It seems like twisted root is a sister company and that place is way better which left me even more disappointed.

Great place for a fried avocado taco and queso blanco! My husband doesn’t like to go because he thinks it’s overpriced for fast casual in a Taco Cabana type atmosphere. The bar looked hopping. We’ve been twice. For this type of fair, we prefer Torchy’s or Mi Chula’s.

I could see why this place is rated the way it is. First time dining here, had a #1 which includes 2 tacos of your choice, rice and beans w a side. Firstly, when I received my order I could tell right off the bat that the rice was drier than a desert. The beans were ok. I had to eat both at the same time so it would taste ok. As for the tacos, I will say that the pulled pork was really good! The only thing is the tacos as a whole were room temp. I would have liked them to be at least warm. For the side I had fried avocado fries that are actually really great! Loved the ranch dip but would have preferred if it was on the side than having the avocados sit inside the ranch. My sister had the Same except our sides were different. She had the roasted corn. I think that if you say you have roasted corn you should give roasted corn. It tasted like boiled corn on a cob.

Tacos are top notch, prices aren’t bad. Almost everything else isn’t very good though, chips were so-so, roasted corn tasted like boiled corn covered in sauce. Overall it’s great if you want a good taco in the area but not worth a trip out there just for it

If you are into inexplicably wet tacos then this is your place. If you don’t like that sort of thing, make sure to order the chicken taco as it is inexplicably dry. Fake food in a fake city!

I’ve had better tacos, but this place was just fine(& close to my house!). I really dig the downtown Roanoke area; this was my first time walking around. Veggie taco(fried avocado et al): Now, it may just be because I’m so used to Torchy’s Tacos, but I was wanting just a little more flavor to this one. Still tasted ok. Fried chicken taco: This one was really interesting. It wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t my style/preferred flavors. I thought it would work, but it didn’t(for me). Avocado fries = yes please! I would love to try some of their other tacos sometime soon, though.

So, if you didn’t know, Roanoke is different than you may remember. It’s got a fun, dare-I-say«downtown» area going on, and I’m loving it! This place is so fun when you walk in. Bright, but relaxed atmosphere. This place reminded me a lot of Torchy’s, if you’ve ever been. But cheaper, which is awesome! T&A has a spectacular, almost unbelievable happy hour. I can’t remember the exact prices, but there were so many choices for so little monies. Is that convincing enough? The margaritas were super yummy and they had a bunch of infused tequilas that you could get at the happy hour. Chile Mango Marg was good and spicy. The guacamole was top-notch, and all of our tacos were impressive. I liked my grilled chicken and fish, and I’m pretty sure everyone was happy with what they got. I like that you can make a combo too and save a bit of money while getting your guac on. They are also gluten-free friendly and will accommodate, which is a plus in my family!

This place is fantastic. We were looking on their sister restaurant, Twisted Root, to see if their kangaroo burger was in season when we saw a link to this restaurant. We eat on Oak St. Roanoke at least once a month, but had overlooked this restaurant. The atmosphere is fantastic. Its a hip little dive with a wide selection of alcohol, but as we had to work the next morning we went with tea. They don’t seem to have regular sweet tea, but they do have a fantastic Watermelon Tea. They also have half and half. We were given a pager and went and sit in a booth. A few minutes later the hubs went and picked up two trays full of food. We both got the #1 combo which includes 2 tacos of your choice, rice and beans, and a side. I got the grilled chicken taco and the ground beef taco. Both were fantastic. The chicken taco was messy, but the corn salsa was amazing. For my side I got queso blanco. My husband got the fish taco and the months featured taco, the Cajun shrimp taco. I tasted both. I disliked the fish taco, but I usually do. He said it was good, but he didn’t like it as much as my chicken. The Cajun shrimp was ridiculously good. For dessert, I slid a dollar into the box and grabbed a mango popsicle from the small deep freezer. This was surprisingly good. I can’t wait to go back.

Gourmet tacos are an interesting idea. I LOVE tacos. I’ve eaten and over-eaten more than my fair share. I ordered the two recommended by the young blonde cashier as the best. I would never knit pick a taco as it’s essentially a street food, but because they call it «gourmet»… Tortillas: cold, taste store bought. Filling: bland and chewy. This place is a bar. They should just drop the gourmet taco part, advertise drink specials and say, «oh BTW, we also serve overpriced tacos». Another bothersome point is that you have to get up to get your food from a pickup counter after your pager beeps. Take a page from Feugo. Use less pricey ingredients and increase quality of service for better overall experience and consider cleaning the place.
